Because they are morons. Let's see...
USC loses to an unranked Washington team on the road, and they are ranked 7. Notre Dame loses to #20 Michigan on the road, and they are unranked, despite winning their last game bereft of two of the leading yardage men in college football in Armando Allen and Michael Floyd.
Kansas, on the strength of a 4-0 record beating notable powerhouses such as Northern Colorado, UTEP, Duke and Southern Miss are ranked #18, but Missouri, who has actually played big boy competition, is unranked. How does that work? Missouri has beaten Illinois and Nevada...Kansas has beaten N. Colorado who won 1 game last year, and Duke, a perenial football doormat.
I'm not done.
California gets absolutely thumped on the road to an unranked Oregon team and drops to 24, but Notre Dame gets beat at the end of the game at Michigan, and falls completely out of the rankings. BYU gets absolutely shelled by an unranked FSU team and is ranked at 20...Notre Dame, well you know. Oh, and Missouri hasn't lost yet.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not stupid? How is BYU, Cal, etc. ahead of Notre Dame and Missouri? How is Kansas ranked, but Mizzou is not?
Do people just not put any thought into this?
And yes, I realize I'm bitching about my favorite teams getting slighted. Which they have been. I also realize the season is still young. But, still.
