Who Said All Guest Hosts Suck?

Wade's Public Transit Bomb

Championship Contender
For those of you who didn't watch Raw and/or didn't care, Hugh Jackman was the guest host. I'll admit I was skeptical because most of the Raw guest hosts that sucked some pretty big coconuts were actors. What irony.

Well, to a great surprise, Mr. Jackman was a blast! He didn't seem nervous nor acted like "Well, they paid me to show up.." He was full of energy, worked the crowd perfectly, and delivered a sweet punch to Ziggles. I would go as far as to say he was actually better in all three categories than most of the roster. It was an absolutely perfect way to use the guest host.

What did you think of the Aussie guest host?

I thought he was pretty damn good with Dolph & Vickie. Was good with Zack Ryder and working the Cleveland Crowd. I thought he did very well tonight.

Agreed brother.

It was great having Hugh on Raw. It was even great having him ivolved in a match. It's even greater when the guest star actually knows his shit about the WWE. This was a perfect example of what the guest star concept should be about; no major roles. Other guest stars stole the spotlight, didn't know shit about wrestling and didn't care. Hugh Jackman was great tonight. I loved the hit he gave Dolph Ziggler - that shit looked legit. Perfect example of how to include a guest star tonight.

He was average in my opinion. He did the same thing maywether did two years which was try to put over a jobber imagine that a overrated actor with a clown by the name of zack Ryder who steals martin Lawrence lines woo woo woo what a joke

Well he is a veteran of live theater which probably translates better to WWE than his film career alone. I felt he didn't obstruct the show or treat it like a joke like some hosts/guests have done so he gets a passing grade for sure.

Best part was Ziggler mistaking him for Christian Bale with the Batman comment and being mean to people.. Missed the Ziggler match but sure he will be tweeting about it for the next 6 months:)

I liked it a lot, even made me wish he was a superstar so I could see him again. I really liked how he didn't spend the entire time promoting his movie by going on and on about who's in it and all that crap. He just said, "Hey I have movie coming out next month, it's really good, go see it." Then the angle with Ziggler and Ryder was used to actually promote his role in the film and also get Ryder over. He was funny and didn't seem nervous and actually appeared to be enjoying himself.

Good thing about the return of guest hosts is that they are powerless to make matches and act like the GM of the show. And about hugh jackman, alright he is fine considering that he coached the longislandiced Z Zack Ryder :lmao:

I was also pretty impressed. Him going to grab the Zach Ryder sign (may or may not have been pre-planned) and interacting with the crowd made him like less of a robot (no pun intended)...like no other guest hosts do.

It looks like he connected pretty good with Dolph too!

i liked hugh jackman tonite but i saw the muppets are gonna be hosting UGH!!!!! I understand its a pg show but come on this is getting dumb i mean if barney has a new show come out are they gonna bring him on to promote it muppets are muppets its getting stupid. Lets see they come out and kermit high fives john cena and the king compares vickie to miss piggy or asks if they are related. I could also see someone jobbing to kermit via a frog splash, oh yea n hornswoggle will do a segment with one of them and i HATE HORNSWOGGLE. So i think it will be the lowest rated raw in a while.

I liked Hugh for the same reasons. The only thing i might have changed is maybe have Swagger get involved in the match some how. But still a good job by WWE in using the guest host correctly.

Why is everyone bashing the Muppets? I know personally I would LOVE to see the critics do commentary all night from their little booth. Beats having to listen to Cole. LOL

Hugh Jackman is a proferssionakl and an Aussie, down to earth and obviously "gets it" Most of these ********s Vicne brings in do it solely for the money

Hugh was pretty good, now all I need is for Miss Piggy to be the Diva's Champ, who is a better Diva, and if you watch The Great Muppet Caper, she can go.

Here's the thing - I totally agree Eboney, but I think the key difference with Jackman and most of the other hosts is Jackman spent time putting people over and really getting involved. He was a fan as a teenager apparently.

Obviously he was mainly there to plug a product but he was clearly enjoying himself and he's good with a crowd. I wish all hosts could have been booked on the show the way he was.

Best guest host ever...If he's not actor and know something about wrestling I think he would be one hell of a menager...And i have feeling that he will show up again because of that part where Swagger said that he can manage a date with Vicky and Hugh soo...Probably some sort of story with Hugh comming up...If it does it will be freaking awesome...

What they did with Jackman on Raw is how you should use the guests hosts. I vote for not at all, but this was done well. Put over some mid card talent and put over the crowd. That punch was well placed and im glad Ryder got a victory over Ziggler.

I thought Jackman did a great job. I was surprised. He seemed more like a fan really than a guy on the show to sell something. He seemed like he genuinely wanted to be there. If he didn't, then he really is a damn good and highly underrated actor.

Did Dolph mistake him for Christian Bale or did he make a Batman reference as something of just a general shot at Jackman as his portrayal of Wolverine made him a star? It came off to me as more of the latter to make Ziggler look even more smug. You know, treating Jackman as if his portrayal of one of the most popular comic book characters of all time and a central part of a billion dollar movie franchise didn't matter.

I thought Jacko did a great job. I may be Australian but I am in no way biased when I say Hugh Jackman made a great host. Most other guest host's that Raw have had havn't really connected with the crowd, but Hugh did. Especially when he walked into the crowd and got that sign, it made me believe that Jackman wanted to be there because he loves WWE and not because of the pay check.

Jackman was awesome. His live theater experience clearly showed through, as he had no problem being in front of a live crowd and working them expertly. Loved his first segment, loved his backstage bit with Ryder, and love the match. The Broski bandana, actually seeming to care and react to what went down, and the punch was great, he delivered it well and is a big enough, strong enough dude where it's totally believable. And post match he seemed legitimately stoked that Ryder picked up the W. I'm a big fan of Hugh Jackman, and thought he did a great job. He can definitely come back any time.

Yeah I was impressed by the whole way this was handled, it didn't get in the way and he worked the crowd very well. His punch looked legit and as most people have said already he looked to be enjoying himself, when he was at ringside with Ryder he totally got into the role.

My whole thing with the guest hosts is that even when they do well, it's lazy booking and it shows that you can't fill two hours with wrestling. Sure, Zack Ryder got a mega-win over Dolph last night and Hugh Jackman was even pretty entertaining. But, couldn't they have just had Zack fight Dolph without Hugh being there? How about we take time to write a story about how these guys don't like each other and let them have a match at HiaC? Maybe if WWE would spend time during the week to come up with better stories, they wouldn't have to bring guys like Hugh Jackman on to fill time.

Well he is a veteran of live theater which probably translates better to WWE than his film career alone.

Plus also Hugh Jackman is a consumate professional in his performances. He's done movies, musicals, and hosted the oscars.

The problem with other hosts, esepcially when they get people in TV and movies, is that WWE rarley gets talented A-Listers. They normally get hasbeens or C-Listers which means they never really have the talent to work on the crowd.

He was great in the ring and seemed genuinely happy to be in the ring. He also did a good job promoting Ryder.

One of the reasons why he was better than most other guest hosts(mainly sports guys) was because he is relatively well-known all around the world. Whereas most other guests are mainstream only in the US.

My whole thing with the guest hosts is that even when they do well, it's lazy booking and it shows that you can't fill two hours with wrestling.

The WWE doesn't provide wrestling shows. They are a TV SHOW. TV shows include sitcoms, dramas, soap operas, cartoons, etc etc. There has to be a reason for everything to happen or no one cares.

Sure, Zack Ryder got a mega-win over Dolph last night and Hugh Jackman was even pretty entertaining. But, couldn't they have just had Zack fight Dolph without Hugh being there?

Hasn't SD taught you that the crowd needs an actually reason to give a damn? The first promo set up Zack Ryder as an underdog perfectly. The backstage stuff revealed it was Ryder, which was a lot better than having people be sorely disappointed if it wasn't Ryder.

How about we take time to write a story about how these guys don't like each other and let them have a match at HiaC? Maybe if WWE would spend time during the week to come up with better stories, they wouldn't have to bring guys like Hugh Jackman on to fill time.

The WWE has a definitive hierarchy. Dolph is clearly on a higher spot on the card than Ryder. Therefore they needed a bridge to connect the two. Jackman was a hit with the crowd and really put Ryder a lot more than just a random match that had no build or buzz going into it. I really meant when I said he was better at most of the guys on the roster at working the crowd.

Hugh Jackman was quite entertaining as last night's guest on Raw. That's because he wasn't the GUEST HOST. He was involved in one segment and one match, both of which went rather well. The problem with the Guest Hosts is that they were interjected into too much of the show. Jackman didn't do that. He played his part well, and blasted Ziggler with a very nice right hand.
