I don't really like rap music. Probably becuase I don't understand half of what they're saying, and to me it all sounds the same.

My favourite genres of music are Indie, Pop and Soft Rock. My favourite bands are Snow Patrol, My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio, Plain Whte T's and McFly.
I just love this music, especially when it's live. I've seen a lot of different genres of music live, but these just sound the best.

Also, I love the way you can relate to a lot of the lyrics. These artists always seem to write a song that relates to me in some way, atm it's Hey There Delilah.

im a hardcore rocker with some light stuff thrown in there

im into bands like:

Killswitch Engage
All that remains
My Chemical Romance
Lamb of God
Naglfar
Cattle Decaipitation
The Used
Skindred
Three Days Grace

Things like that.:headbanger:

I listen to just about anything, noy big into techno or heavy metal, but apart from that i enjoy all kinds.

At the moment i'm listening to Leona Lewis, winner of last years X-factor competition in the UK. She has a great voice, good to listen to when your stressed out.

I'm a huge Amy whinehouse fan, listen to her all the time. Also listening to Kanye, 50 cent, Chris brown, Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis at the moment.

Growing up I listened to everything. I enjoyed rap from 1996-2000 but I feel recently its getting a little stale. Always liked STP, Alice in Chains, Rage against the machine, etc. Living in NY, we've always had a pretty good Rock station (Kroq) so we get the chance to hear everything thats out there

I only listen to a few CD's nowadays:
The Used
LinkinPark
311
My Chemical Romance
Pepper

That prettymuch sums up all you'll ever hear in my car

as a Mars Volta mark you can probably figure out thats thats what Ive been listening to lately. I cant get enough they are so good if you havent heard them they are pure excellence once you start you cant stop. and are easily some of the most talented current musicians

i like all kinds of music i listen to:
biggie
jay-z
coheed and cambria
taking back sunday
from autum to ashes
and alot more but thats what ive been listen to recently

I listen to mostly rock. I like all types of rock, but can't get into the heavy metal. Some bands I listen to are:

- System of a Down
- The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
- Rise Against
- Boys Like Girls

i'll listen to anything with double kicks and screaming. my prefered genres are heavy metal, metalcore and deathcore. i also listen to softer music like boys like girls and papa roach.

my favorite bands are
Bullet for my Valentine
Slipknot
I killed the prom queen
job for a cowboy
cradle of filth
bring me the horizon

I dislike many of the mainstream "metal" bands around today, and as an avid listener of Death Metal, I can say that I've only heard of two bands off your list, COF and Slipknot. COF is decent but Slipknot is totally overrated as a "metal" band. I do listen to a few Deathcore bands, but like I said, I haven't heard of anything off the list of bands you provided except those two.

I think all of the "core" names are the fucking gayest shit. seriously. is it necessary? there is fucking ROCK, POP, RAP, and COUNTRY. people not only try to reduce music down into all these gay ass little groups, but then get all fucking crazy in your face when u classify it as one thing and they are like "thats not fucking bloody death core u fuckin clown". so please, no one respond to me like that, becuase I COOOOUULD NOT give a fuck about that shit. (Ech, this wasnt directed at you, what you posted just reminded me of a thought I had the other day. U werent a dick about it, so your cool lol its just the people who get all absurd crazy serious about it, and who get fucking OFFENDED if u dare misname something in one of their precious little sub genres...)

I like
Perfect Circle (my favorite band), Stone Sour, Slipknot, Spineshank, Deathklok (hell fuckin yea Ech), Killswitch engage, Metallica, White Zombie, Dope, Mudvayne, Motorhead, Nirvana, Everlast, DMX, Three Six Mafia, Brotha Lynch, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Flyleaf, Eazy E, NWA.

So I guess I listen to Rap, rock, and country, albeit older country.

I've done my research, I personally consider Metalcore/ Nu Metal bands as the same thing, as their both considered a step down from Extreme and Death metal/ Deathcore anyway. For a band to be considered "death metal" not only do they have to have a certain level of intensity but they also have to have the "death growl" vocals. The vocals are what sets Deathcore/ Death metal bands apart from Everyone else. Extreme metal bands are bands that have the same intensity as a Death Metal band, but lack the Death growl type vocals. I'm not even going to get into the different types of Death metal.

Yea, Death Metal, punk things of that sort are acceptable I guess, as they are pretty starkly contrast to the other types of things. I shouldve widened my amount of genres. It was more the little ridiculous genres of screamy music and punk that people get into, and how they get so incredulistic and condescending when someone violates the lines of their precious little sub genres. What you just said is perfectly legit. And so are SOME sub genres in music. but not to the ridiculous point that so many take it too. and mostly about their attitudes about it, the grates me the most...

Metalcore and Nu-Metal are totally different. It's like telling me KoRn and Killswitch Engage sound the same.

As for me, my favourite genre is Metal. Preferably the more extreme kind, though my all time favourite band is Metallica. I've studied most art forms of Jazz music for 4 and a half years, so I'm pretty well versed in that. I'm heavily into most underground Rap, can it provide me with solid beats and great delivery. I've studied two years in most Classical era's of music, some of which I like, some I don't. I enjoy some pop music here and there. Robbie Williams and Michael Jackson would be my favourites there. I've also taken the time to start a blues/jam-rock band, where influences like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters and B.B King come into play.

Those are probably my favourites, though far from limited to them. Post-Hardcore, Indie and Electronica seem to be the only genres I haven't found an artist I actually enjoy as of yet.

I would have to completely disagree about the whole argument of classifying genres. I don't get offended by it usually (unless someone is trying to do something like refer to Amy Winehouse as hardcore punk) but the genres are important.

Because they're extremely different. You can't just classify all rock style music as just being rock. Thats ridiculious. People who say "I listen to rock" could be talking about anything.

Name the genre, I probably listen to it.

But my favorite styles that I stick to most of the time is a mixture of punk, 60's rock/pop, and indie music such as Fugazi, Modest Mouse, etc.

But seriously, name a genre, I probably listen to it. Death metal? Check. Country? Check (albeit I usually stick to the classics like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and the ORIGINAL Hank Williams Sr, not his terrible terrible sons). Folk? Check. Traditional Celtic? Check. Hardcore Punk? Check. Screamo? Check. Grunge? Check. Gangsta Rap? Check.

I could really go on and on here.

Top 5 bands of all time would probably be, in no order, The Beatles, The Doors, Minor Threat, Joy Division, and Bob Dylan. Thats just off the top of my head though; Johnny Cash should probably be in there as well.

Precisely.

I think all of the "core" names are the fucking gayest shit. seriously. is it necessary?

To some extent, yes it is. Sometimes it gets taken a little too far and people tend to go overboard with the "-core" genres, but things like Metalcore, Hardcore, Grindcore, and most recently Deathcore are pretty much used to describe a certain sound. None of these "-core" genres sound like each other, yet they borrow musical elements from each others styles to graft into their own fitted genre.

Take Metalcore for example. It's basically a combination of sterotypical Heavy Metal (Though in some cases more Melodic genres of Metal) music combined with that of Hardcore Punk music.

there is fucking ROCK, POP, RAP, and COUNTRY.

There's a hell of a lot more genres than those four.

I don't care if people genreise or not, but I have no problem with someone telling me they listen to Deathcore, because I know that sub-genre has its own certain sound.

I've done my research, I personally consider Metalcore/ Nu Metal bands as the same thing, as their both considered a step down from Extreme and Death metal/ Deathcore anyway.

Maybe you need to do some more "research". Nu-Metal and Metalcore couldn't be any different. Metalcore is a fusion genre, and as I mentioned above, is a combination of Hardcore Punk and various Metal sub-genres. Nu-Metal is a fusion genre which combines that of Grunge, Hip-Hop and Metal.

If you consider these genres to be the same, please tell me the immediate similarities between a band like Linkin Park and Killswitch Engage.

For a band to be considered "death metal" not only do they have to have a certain level of intensity but they also have to have the "death growl" vocals.

What is this certain level of "intensity" you speak of?

Death Metal has too many sub-genres. Not all bands who play Death Metal make regular, if any use of a "death growl".

See I'm with you, I hate when people breck shit down into so many sub-genres, as far as I'm concerned, theres only to types of metal, Real Metal, and Glame/hair Metal, which IMO sounds more like pop than anything, me I mostly listen to real metal, anyone who has visted my Music Asylum knows this, however I listen to other bands that aren't metal too, I like bands like Jimmy Eat World, Thrice, Foo Fighters, Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, & Pearl Jam, non of these bands are what I consider metal, they're just rock, I hate rap for the most part, but did go through a phase where I did listen to some, but that was really only limited to Ice Cube & DMX, and that was about it, most of those CDs I don't even own anymore, I think I still have Ice Cube's War & Peace Vol. 1: The War Disc, Jonny Cash is about the only country guy I can stand, I also like another band which I'm sure most people on here have never heard of called Amphibious Assault, they're more of a Industrial/Metal band that isn't signed to any major label, if they're are any Kittie fans, than they probably remember Fallon Bowman, Amphibious Assault was her little project she did after leaving Kittie, it's good stuff, at least IMO it is

My iPod is basically a lot of random music from Good Charlotte to D:Ream. Paramore to Rascal Flatts - I don't listen to any particular genre. Hell, I'll listen to some Alphabeat and dance music.

If I can nod ma head to it - I like it.

Soulja Boy Tell 'Em was something I liked recently.

Listen to everything. Incubus, Rise Against, Red Hot Chille Peppers, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Smashing Pumpkins, The Juno Sound Track, Mr. and Mrs. Smith Sound Track, Everything!

I love music! It is the only thing i've been into longer then wrestling. I play the Guitar, Bass, and Drums. In school I was in the band for a year, until I relized it was alittle queer. But, I played the Trumpet, and Baritone. I've played bass since I was 4! Believe that! My cousin got me huge on it, and told me to listen to all music types cuz it is all good. Some 2-Pac lyrics on-top of some Nofx music is bad ass!

I'm into mostly rock and metal. Pretty much any kind of rock, ranging back to classic with Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, all the way up to bands like Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, and Avenged Sevenfold. I usually prefer 80s Thrash Metal. My favorites are as follows.

Metallica
Pantera
Down
Linkin Park
Megadeth
Slayer
Stone Sour
Black Sabbath
Black Label Society, etc.

I live for music its what i do all day and every day, I listen to any kind of music but the main ones i listen to is nickelback and creed, as well as any band that has the singing stlye of creed there is just something about that kind of voice that i like.
the sad part is i have never been to a concert but thats becouse no good bands come to where i live it gets realy annoying becouse if there is a concert i want to go to i have to fork out for the concert tickets and the airfare and a motel room so im going to bide my time, who knows one day maybe a decent band wil come to tasmania. HA.

Music is my LIFE...plain and simple. I try to listen to most forms of music, and keep an open mind for the others. Listen to primarily Rap ( Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, DMX, 2Pac, Biggie, Snoop, Game) but I also listen to some Rock...linkin park, godsmack and saliva and some three days grace. Also listen to R & B, Pop, Soca, Reggae and Dancehall (caribbean based music, most won't know it).

Those are my major genres that I actively listen to, however if I hear a country and western song, or some techno, I won't immediately discard it...I try to give all types of music a chance.

Personally im a juggalo, But that allways dosent mean i just lisiten to icp. I am a true metal head first and allways before being a juggalo. I love icp but metal owns them anyday. Theres more to being a juggalo than just being a fan thats why im a juggalo.

I've loved metal since way way way back in the day the first shit I started lisiting to was sabbith, And pantera. Still love both bands to this day. I have an extreeme distaster for about any 80's rock and metal band. I respect what they did for music and the industry as a whole but i just dont like it.

I've hopped from different types of metal throught my life. I've been told i'm not a ture metal fan because i lisiten to cross genra music and different types of metal. And i allways come back with when the fuck did metal change its face? Metal is metal no matter how much you want to say. O its black metal, Groove metal, Folk metal, Melodic death metal and this and that . It's all basically the same to me if it his hard and makes me want to tear the wallpaper off the wall i'll lisiten to it.

There are different types of metal and music to different people but i've allways loved it and unless it completely changes i'll still love it.

Bands I like

Pantera
Black sabbith
Devildriver
Dimmu borgir
Kalmah
Children of bodem
Deathklok
Nile
In flames
Killswitch engage
A little slayer
Wintersun
1349
Inasne clown posse
Twiztid
Jonny cash
Muse
Mastadon
Avenged sevenfold
Deathspell Omega
Kamelot
Satyricon
