Who is going to be the new Big Four in the Metal scene???

This Is My Name Thank You

Is a horrible poster.
Now we all know that in the early to mids 80's the world of Metal gave us 4 big and well known bands that eventually became very, very popular. These bands are Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth. I personally am a fan of Metallica and early Slayer. The other bands have some good jams to them as well. But, the thing is, with out these 4 bands we wouldn't have the Heavy Metal scene that we do now. A lot of bands have taking musical influence from these bands such as Trivium, Bullet for my Valentine, Lamb of God. Just to name a few from the top of my head.

Now the thing is, these 4 bands are not going to be around forever and eventually fade into the sunset. Sure they are making albums still and touring and doing their thing an entertaining us, but lets be honest here. The last albums from all 4 of these bands have not been all the special and it shows that they are losing the touch.

So as I sit and wonder of this question to myself and my friends and we really can't come up with such an answer. It is hard and very hard as the Metal scene is dying out. We need them bands to revoultionalize the Metal scene again.

So what 4 bands to you think will become known as The Big Four of the decades to come? Ill be happy to read your opinions on this.

On quite the contrary, the metal scene isn't dying out. What are you talking about? In the states it is getting stronger and stronger by the year and it has monster footholds in most of Europe. Small pockets of it are totally around the world, in Australia and Japan that I know of. Brazil has a good metal scene.

Back on topic, I don't believe the Big 4 will ever be recreated. It would of happened by now, thrash was just so big back then and these four bands took it farther and farther up the charts. But metal in general is changing so much that I don't think one sub genre of metal could ever grasp the worlds attention like thrash did.

More and more people are getting into the trend of rap and hip hop nowadays. Metal isn't as big as it was back in the day. It is still around just not as popular as it use to be. Ever heard of Headbangers Ball the show that was on Mtv2. That isn't on anymore why? Becuase metal is getting over rid by pop and crap.

Sure Metal is huge but name a metal band that has had a number 1 chart selling album in the last 10 years? No band is selling a million records in one day like Lil Wayne, and Eminem has been selling huge again. Look at Lady Gaga. There records sales are huge. Nothing like Lamb of God or Trivium and other bands can reach. Means less people listen to Metal.

Metal isn't dying out, it's just not popular. Two different things, dude. Thrash was popular at the time and the "Big Four" of thrash were just in the forefront (no love for Testament? Not cool!)

I can't think of anything that will "revolutionize" metal anymore than it already is; it's all a rehashed sound.

Melodeath has gained a lot of popularity this past decade in case you haven't noticed. But bands just recycle the same sound and don't experiment, so it gets a little stale. We have "screamo" (metal/mallcore, Hot Topic, whatever) bands using electronic samples and whatnot nowadays too. Actually, I hardly listen to metal nowadays, so I'm just generalizing. I look for bands in a particular genre I enjoy and listen to them.

So what 4 bands to you think will become known as The Big Four of the decades to come? Ill be happy to read your opinions on this.

I don't think any four particular bands will ever be as popular as the thrash bands were. I think you're emphasizing "Big Four" way too much.

Have you lived under a rock for the past two decades? Nowadays? How old are you, brah?

Cool propaganda, bro. Who hasn't heard of Headbanger's Ball? It isn't around anymore? Good riddance. I never liked the stuff they played when I watched it five years ago for a short while.

Yeah, okay, here's the problem: I think you're a close-minded teenager who listens to metal and METAL only, amirite? How long have you listened to metal? How much do you know about metal that you didn't learn from Wikipedia? Grow up a little, listen to different music and artists, and open your mind.

Metal doesn't go hand-in-hand with pop music 'cause it doesn't please a lot of people, that's why they listen to POP music -- c'mon, do you ever hear a metal song play in the background at a club?

I can't name a metal band that had a #1 selling album in a chart 'cause I don't pay attention to pop music that much 'cause I'm no sheep. That's what you are, a sheep, bra(a)h.

And to add insult to injury:

Nothing like Lamb of God or Trivium and other bands can reach. Means less people listen to Metal.

If Lamb of God keep dishing out the same song for their albums, they'll never sell more. That's a jab at their sound. Get it?

Trivium, on the other hand, tweaked their sound a bit and I found The Crusade decent at best. Haven't listened to anything past that album, so I can't comment on them.

Answer: Avenged Sevenfold - "Nightmare".

There ya go bud. They're in this generation's definition of metal, so they qualify.

Metal is NOT dying. Yes, it's not as popular as it was.
As for big 4?

I honestly don't think you can recreate the "big 4" because of everything they've done for the industry at one point or another in time.

Well, I refuse to say Metal is dying, Its not, Ever. This pop/Rap crap of nowadays is a passing trend. It will fade. I won't be cliche and mention Tenacious d's ''The metal', but....yeah.

ANYWAY

The big four in my view, of now. Im not to sure, Ill give it a shot. When it comes to sound, longevity, and the idea of actually being inspirational to a new generation of bands

Mastodon
Avenged Sevenfold
Trivium
Lamb of God

I would put them as the big 4 of the now, if I had to pick them, but as stated before. The idea of the original Big 4 was because they all had a new sound at that time

Ok to Essex up there. I like two of the bands that you posted, and Trivium has tallent. But how does Avenged sevenfold fit anything that you said. Sound, they sound like a Metalcore band that has a terrible lead singer who blew out his voice trying to growl. Longevity? Yeah..... and from what I've heard and saw they are hated by most of the people on their tours, and are regularly bottled by fans when they are on festivals with heavier bands. They sell, true. But they sell because they capitolised on a scene movment. That scene movement isn't anyware as popular as thrash was.

Also I did a bit of digging for you lads.

Tool: 10.000 days and Lateralus. Progressive metal

System of a Down: Hypnotize and Mezmerize. Alt/heavy metal

Marilyn Manson: The Golden Age of Grotesque. Industrial metal (yeah... >.>)

Slipknot: All hope is gone Alt/ Heavy metal

Ac/dc: Black Ice. Heavy metal

Godsmack: Iv and the oracle. Alt/heavy metal

Disturbed: Ten thousand fists, and Indestructible. Alt/heavy metal

Avenged sevenfold: Nightmare. Heavy metal/

This is a list of "metal" bands that have had a #1 charting album in the past ten years. All the albums are considered "metal" albums. While not being canibal corpse in brutalness. They are metal albums.

Getting personal in here, mother fucker. I guarantee you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. First off, lead singers damage their voices all the time and if you go back to their first two albums, you'd understand why. How many times has Corey Taylor fucked his vocal chords up? Exactly... It happens to every metal singer in the world and you cannot control it. Second, i'm under the assumption that you believe the whole voice thing made the bands music go from screaming to singing. I may have misunderstood you, but that's what it sounds like you're saying. If it is, it's called diversity in your music. Most bands are content with performing one type of music their entire career. Avenged wasn't. They had success with the screaming and decided to change it up. Simple as that.

Longevity? Yeah..... and from what I've heard and saw they are hated by most of the people on their tours,

Really, than why do people go watch them play? If you hate the band, why spend money to go to a show on THEIR tour? They have about as loyal a fanbase as any band besides maybe Slayer.

and are regularly bottled by fans when they are on festivals with heavier bands.

Show me where you are getting your information please, or are you just making shit up? Don't you think they'd stop touring or something drastic would be done if they were regularly bottled? Again, show me proof or stop spouting your shit.

Ummm let's see, Disturbed has had 4 number 1 albums. Believe, Ten thousand fists, Indestructible, and Asylum. That's happened in the last 10 years.
