Who do you respect more?

Born To Fly

Occasional Pre-Show
Wrestlers who had the world handed to them on a silver platter then worked from there or guys who had to fight, sweat and toil on their way to the top?

The Miz winning tonight made me think about this thread. Especially how John Cena said something to Wade Barrett about not taking shortcuts. The Miz didn't take shortcuts and had to fight his way through the company.

Twist the question in another way:

Who do you admire more? Wrestlers who have the ability and were pushed to the top in a short period of time or Wrestlers who are pushed to the top just because they are there and not because they are of that level of ability?

Whoever reached the top will have worked hard for it. Nobody was handed a silver platter. I don't really care how long they have worked to be honest.

Out of everyone in the locker room, there are 3 I respect above all others:

1. Triple H: I respect him because of the MSG Incident. He took his punishment like a man and didn't quit or go to work for the opposing show. That says a lot about what kind of human being the man is.

2. John Cena: After tonight. I rarely see any wrestler make fun of themselves, especially on the night they are to "leave" the company. But Cena did just that asking half the audience to chant a positive chant, and the other half (the 18 and up demographic) to chant "Cena Sucks!" I can't recall any other doing that really. To me that says much for a guy that has been constantly bashed on websites like this. He took his chants in stride.

3. The Undertaker: For being there since day one, not going over to the rival company, for being so dedicated to his craft and still remain to be entertaining.

People think The Miz worked / earned this title run? If any non deserving non talent has ever had something handed to him then it's the Miz! Oh and The Undertaker has been in the WWE for a long time butnot since day one. He was in WCW way before he became the Undertaker.

I don't really pay attention to that. I mostly admire like the poster above said the guys who have been there for a long time. The ones who are not total bitches backstage. I don't care if certain wrestlers have pull backstage or not. I don't really respect Randy Orton that much because he has been known to be a little dramatic backstage. I pretty much respect those who are on top regardless of how long it took them to be there. I respect those who know they will never be anything in their careers as far as main event level goes or popularity, yet they stick in there trying to help younger talent out.

I'll admit that I have a lot of respect for Cena, always have, and was very happy with the moving fairwell speech. In particular, my respect goes to those who perform with dedication to their characters no matter what they are, even if they won't get them anywhere in terms of titles.

A good example here is Santino Marella. This guy has made an entire wrestling career out of pratfalls and "happy accidents" which turn out well for him. Yes, he is beginning to show some actual credibility in the ring (finally) but primarily he's known for his comedy which he plays to the nines. He's been scripted to do some pretty ridiculous and stupid things...yet he does them and he does them with a characteristic abandon and enthusiasm that I don't think anybody else on the current roster could muster. I respect Goldust (to a slightly lesser degree) for the same reason.

Among the classic characters, this sort of respect extends to the likes of Doink the Clown. Yeah, I know he's one of those characters that is famous for his sheer "cringe-worthy"-ness, but the guy could perform and he never broke character. When he came out into the ring, he was that creepy clown.

I respect The Undertaker and Kane for similar reasons in their dedications to their performances, but The Undertaker is a special case. In just about every interview I've heard (and I've heard many) when people speak of The Undertaker, it's almost always in glowing terms in that he helped them elevate. He's done that for a lot of these guys and I give major respect for that.

how can you not respect the Miz? The guy grew up a wrestling fan, went on MTV just to get his name out there, expressed his love for wrestling on the show there and then went on to tough enough to try and learn the sport and grow at it... he definitely worked to fulfill his dream, was he pushed faster than most ppl? sure.. but he has the personality for the business so he deserves it... he also had to deal with backstage heat for the longest time and did and kept his head down and worked his way to where he is.. i got nothing but respect for the Miz... he could just as easily be on one of these boards just writing as a fan, but instead he managed to go all the way to the top as a FAN, unlike a lot of other wrestlers who were just big and got offered a job

I'd have to say that I respect The Rock... He was given a crap gimmick when he started and turned the backlash against that character into one if the most entertaining and loved characters of all time, made a ton of money fir himself and the company, helped elevate westling from a dirty secret that people didn't want to admit that they liked or watched, and then... He walked away. He didnt leave because he pissed someone off, or he got injured. He didn't overstay his welcome and tarnish his legacy like Hogan and Flair have, and the Undertaker is on his way to doing. He walked away at the hight of his career and opened up a spot for a Cena and an Orton. He hasn't come back for a quick payday and demand that the top stars of today put him over just to stoke his ego.
How many people in this business, that were even half as big a star as The Rock walked away to make way for a new generation? Remember, Rock put over Lesnar CLEAN at one of the biggest PPVs of the year to "pass the torch" to the next generation that Lesnar was going to lead... He did right by the business and was vilified for it, and called a sellout, but what would he be called if he was still in the ring, still main eventing, still raising his eyebrow, still asking if you smelled what he was cooking?
He didn't become Hogan, he didn't become Flair and he didn't become what the Undertaker is rapidly becoming, and for that reason I have a lot of respect for him... As long as he doesn't make another DOOM movie

There's a laundry list of guys I respect. I pretty much respect ANY pro wrestler due to the fact they are in a very tough craft. The ones I obviously have respect for on other avenues that come to mind are Miz (Yes a Bias) because of his hard work and dedication, John Cena for the same, and Undertaker for his dedication for WWE and his generosity to help put alot of guys over. There's probably more, but those 3 at the moment come to mind.

I hate it when people get everything handed to them and I respect the ones who work there asses to the bone day in and day out. I respect Miz but the man I respect more than any other guy on the roster has to be Daniel Bryan. He is one tough kid. I think he takes the biggest bumps in WWE. That or he is just awesome at selling. He has worked so hard for so many years in the minor leagues and now he is there. So the top two guys I respect on the roster are Daniel Bryan and The Miz. The Miz went from being the most hated guy in the locker room to one of the more popular ones. He appreciates what he has. The first to arrive and the last to leave. Miz gives his all to the WWE. Miz is the heel version of John Cena.

I think everyone respects people who work for there rewards then people that were given it on a silver platter. I know this Is an old reference but the biggest case of a man given the silver platter was Rey Mysterio I call him one of the biggest charity cases in the wwe after Eddie Passed away Rey was given everything he wanted, And I mean everything. Now I respect guys that work there way up in the business more than the silver platter guys Imo

Jericho. The man did absolutely nothing worth the caliber of his character in WCW, one the Undisputed championship in the WWE, and worked his ass off for years until he finally got more reigns. This man payed his dues in full.

Out of whole WWE roster i respect KANE mostly. Why? Because the man was jobbing. Jobbing badly. Sometimes was given a nice storyline, but we all know this storylines were a clusterfuck just to give Kane some tv time, cause WWE wanted him. He was in the company for, like 14 years? and after 14 years, he was finally given a World title. But he also defeated Undertaker... three times in a row. No one EVER did that. Even tho it's just WWE's booking, HE was the one to be booked to defeat taker 3 times in a row. He also was Undertaker's shadow for these 14 years... But i prefer him than undertaker.
