Which first world title win was the most emotional for you?

CM Steel

A REAL American
Whenever a babyface wins the big one it's always a big deal in the world of wrestling. Mainly for a veteran. But which first world title win was the most emotional for you? Let's take a look at a list of babyface's who won a world title for the first time...

1: Mankind (Mick Foley) over the Rock-In late '98

2: Eddie Guerrero over Brock Lesnar-2004

3: Rey Mysterio over Randy Orton and Kurt Angle-Wrestlemania 22 2006

4: Christian over Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match-Extreme Rulez 2011

5: Jeff Hardy over Edge and Triple H-In late '08

6. Chris Benoit over Triple and Shawn Michaels-Wrestlemania 20 2004> Note: Chris Benoit won his very FIRST world championship over Sid Visious in WCW, but a day later he walked out on the company as the WCW champion.

So, which first world title win was the most emotional for you?

with the exception of maybe eddie and foley none of those were even emotional. and even eddie/foley's i wouldnt even put on a top 10 list lol....not even mentioning shawn michaels is a joke, have you only been watching for 5 years or so?

Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 12. The 60 minute iron man match with Bret Hart was amazing. These two had great ring chemistry and legitimate hatred for each other. To see Shawn win the title at Wrestlemania was one of the greatest moments in wrestling history!

Honestly to me the most emotional is not on your list. When HBK won the title at Wrestlemania XII it was played up as his boyhood dream. After a hard fought iron man match, he won the title and it was a very emotional moment to me.

Shawn Michaels' "Boyhood Dream coming true" at WrestleMania XII. Over 60 minutes of a pure WrestleMania Classic, Two legends and it happened on the biggest stage of them all.

I'm not going to go the Wrestlemania XII route, but instead pick one that is on the OP's list. I'm going to go with Mankind over the Rock in '98. The way they pulled it off was incredible. You thought that the Corporation was going to just gang up on Mick, but DX was there to save him, which was an awesome moment because it was two sides working together to topple the common enemy, and when Austin came in to clobber Rock with a chair, that glass shattering had never been so sweet.

I'm going with Mick over Michaels because one was a boy-hood dream, the other was the impossible dream. Mick really was the prototypical, "You can't do it," wrestler. WCW and almost WWF had told him that very thing. But, when Mick finally did it, it was the pro wrestling equivalent of Rocky, except Mick's Adrian was the WWF Championship, and even Steve Austin wanted him to have it. It was an amazing moment, my favorite probably in the entire history of Raw, and I admit that's one of the like, four moments in my twenty-some-years of watching wrestling that I actually got a little emotional, and one of the other four was Over the Edge 1999. When Eddie won and hugged his mom, I got a little choked up, too, but nothing was like this. Mick made you believe that if you were good enough, you could do anything, no matter where you came from or what you looked like. It's one of my top three moments in wrestling, if not #1, so I'm of course going to go with it.

First off great thread. Now mine is a toss up between Edge first wwe title win, Eddie's, and Christians and HBKs first wwe title. There is something about genuine emotion that you can just believe that it meant a lot to those guys to finally make you appreciate the hard work and years they put in to get to that moment

Honestly to me the most emotional is not on your list. When HBK won the title at Wrestlemania XII it was played up as his boyhood dream. After a hard fought iron man match, he won the title and it was a very emotional moment to me.
We all knew that HBK was due to win the WWF title back in 1996 if not a little bit earlier. We all knew it was Shawn Michaels time to run with the company's belt. Did you think that Bret Hart was going over the younger Shawn Michaels that night?

So in my opinion, the first Shawn Michaels world title win was bound to happen sooner or later. It was his time!

i'm gonna go with macho man's win at wrestlemania 4. after wrestling 4 matches in one night and after seeing him being built up all year it was emotional to see it all pay off for him

Well I'm game; I'll go along with the list for now. It's almost taboo to say, but i'll have to go with Benoit's win over Triple H & Michaels. At the time everyone was pulling for Bemoit to win mainly because people knew he deserved it. He had scratched so long and hard to get to this level. It was very dramatic ending with Benoit holding Triple H in the crippler crossface for an extended period of time. Then the celebration after the match with Eddi Guerrero.

But my real picks are not on your list. Some aren't even WWE related. 1) Ricky Steamboat over Ric Flair at Chi Town Rumble. Flair had been doing his usual thing. Steamboat began injecting the gospel of hardwork & ethics in wrestling. He like benoit deserved cause he fought so long and hard for the spot & the match was so emotional the whole way through. The end was incredible with the celebration along with his family at the end of the match
2) Hulk Hogan over the Iron Sheik madison square garden. This crowd was at a fever pitch the whole match. The sheik had beaten the beloved Bob Backlund and America wanted revenge. This began the beginning of Hulkamania.
3) Hulk Hogan over Sgt. Slaughter at Wrestlemania 7; same as the one above but on a whole different level. There were people who wanted Slaughter dead; I remember toward the end of the match Slaughter covered Hogan with the Iraqi flag; when Hogan kicked out & the crowd went crazy.
4) Jerry Lawler over Curt Henning in Memphis. Lawler had been wrestling for years and the world title had escaped him several times, but he finally got it in 1988. That place was so crowded that night. That was a wonderful sight to see, Lawler winning for the AWA World title for the small memphis based promotion.

I legit cried for Benoit when he won, my sister did too. HIS emotion when he won the big one showed that it was very real for him, and he had the ENTIRE WWE UNIVERSE pulling for him that night.
Shame that he ruined his legacy like that.

I, however, am gonna go with the guy who said Macho Man at WM IV.
I was a HUGE fan of Randy's, whether heel or face, not only that but this was the first PPV that I ever ordered, after a couple years of trying to get my mom to order them for me, she finally relented for the chance to see him win it because she was a big fan too.
Very awesome night, one of the fondest memories of my 'wrestling fan' childhood.

I definitely would have said Mick Foley's, as he was the perfect example of that you can overcome your limitations to achieve anything you want to achieve. However, when that happened I had not been watching wrestling long enough to appreciate it, or knew enough about him to make it emotional. To me at that point he was just this fat guy in a mask.

So, for me I would say Christian winning his first World Heavyweight Title. I know he had won the NWA title in TNA, but I never really believed Vince saw Christian as a genuine main eventer, and I doubted whether he would ever be given the title. To see both him and Edge grow from tag-team specialists to becoming 2 of the best in the business has been really great. Edge got there first, and it was great to see his best friend finally achieve what he had been working for 15 years to achieve, and what they both had dreamed about as kids and that was to become World Champion. To celebrate with Edge in the ring afterwards must have been an amazing feeling for Christian.

I'm going with Benoit's huge win. In all truth, it was one of those matches where anything could happen and the overall match was incredible, then the win itself was just so emotional it was unreal. I legit cried.

Obviously HBK winning at WM12 was amazing, so was Rey Mysterio's at WM22, and Jeff's was cool since i'm a Hardy mark.

Cena's was awesome since I hated JBL so much just for his Guerrero feud (was a total mark back then) since Eddie is my favorite wrestler.

I always loved Chris Jericho's first WWF Title Win, I was a Jericho fan when all my friends hated him, so seeing him pushed like that was awesome for me.

and watching Undertaker's first WWF title reign, the way he beat Hogan, even watching it later, I can see how the makrs were so appaled at the Undertaker back then.

2. Ron Simmons defeating Vader in 1992 for the WCW title becoming the first recognized Black champion for me. Very touching moment for me.

3. Kurt ANgle winning his first WWF World title and his family hoisting him up.

4. Chrstian winning the world title clean after the cripled Edge retired as champion. It was very dramatic because of their history.

5. STEAMBOAT besting flair in 1989 for the NWA World's title.

Mark Henry winning it finally was a great moment but i was more satisfied then emotional with it.

WITHOUT A DOUBT THE MOMENT EVERYONE FAILED TO MENTION: Goldberg beating Hollywood Hogan clean to win the WCW title live on Nitro in 1998. Thats gotta also be a top Nitro and WCW moment too.

2nd runner up
Chris Jericho over Triple H – Raw – April 17, 2000
When Jericho was announced the winner of this match, I was very happy to see a new Face in the WWE Title scene, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be, due to “bullying”. Where was the B. A. * campaign back then??

1st runner up
Chris Jericho over The Rock – No Mercy – October 21, 2001
When Jericho was announced the winner of this match, I was very happy to see Y2J finally win a big one, but it still wasn’t the big one. Being WCW Champion is great, don’t get me wrong, but at this point in time, the WCW Title in the second half of 2001 had become the “new” Intercontinental Title. Plus, winning it on WWE TV didn’t help much.

Winner
Chris Jericho over The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin – Vengeance – December 9, 2001
Now, I know he has won both the WWE and WCW Title prior to this, but to me, this is his real first World Title victory. This was very emotional for me, because at the time, Austin and Rock were my number 1 and 2 favorites and Jericho’s turn a month prior added to the heat. I almost quit watching WWE because of this. All that on top of the fact that it was for the Undisputed WWE / WCW World Heavyweight Championship Titles, makes this win my pick.

Mine is missing. Rob Van Dam over John Cena.

Rob Van Dam is one of the only wrestlers I've been emotionally invested in after like 1998. When he won the title off Cena at One Night Stand I was so happy.

Christian over Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match-Extreme Rulez 2011

As a long time Christian fan, I was more than happy to see Captain Charisma walk away with the belt. Edge being there was great because they were lifelong friends and it's always great to see friends celebrating when one makes it big

yeah im gonna also go with benoit at WM 20
i remember right before triple h tapped and when he finally did
that was awesome i was like yeaaahhhh!!!
and when eddie got in the ring and they both had the titles that was cool
also that night i drank two bottles of wine afterwards and got a little rowdy

also wrestlemania 14 when austin beat shawn michaels that was great

For me it is Christian because like many others I thought that he would never get a world title run in WWE after the way he had been pushed over the years. Edge passed the torch to his best friend though and Christian got a career defining moment when he held his first world title in WWE earlier this year. Second place goes to Jeff Hardy in late 2008. He had spent that entire calendar year chasing world titles against Orton or Trips and always coming up short, then he finally got it and remained a main eventer afterwards.

wrestlemania 4 the tournoment macho had to beat Butch reed, hammer valintine, one man gang and Ted DiBiase

I vaguely rememer Big Show winning his first (wwe) world title and crying, maybe something to do with his dad after the whole Bossman turning up at his funeral incident....anyone back me up here?!

I loved Eddie's win against Brock at No Way Out. When Goldberg came in and speared Brock the crowd went nuts and knew Eddie was only moments away then Brock recovers goes for the F5 and counters with a DDT on the belt, hits him with the frog splash. He couldn't have won it cleanly cause that was Eddie's way. He jumped straight into the crowd and went to celebrate with his mother. Great scenes and truly deserved at the time.

Christian's win over ADR. I hated the fact they made him lose the next show. I always thougt they were going to make him the face of SD people loved him. But no they brought in or ton to steal his thunder now he is just a heel.

This one is definitely one of my favorites of all time, just seeing how happy Eddie was after and what a feat it was for him made the win that much more amazing.

For me it's Randy Orton winning the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2004 against Chris Benoit. Orton was still a young gun back then who was fresh off losing his Intercontinental Championship to Edge at Vengeance. He won a twenty man Battle Royal and got his shot at Benoit's title at SummerSlam, and I'll admit I didn't think that it was his time yet and I thought he was going to lose. But When he pulled off that win out of nowhere with an spin into an RKO and pinned the Champion I was totally blown away and extremely happy. The guy that I had been following since his debut and was one of my favorite wrestlers won his first World title and he became the youngest world champion in WWE history at 24 years old. Definitely my favorite first world title win because it was one of my favorite superstars and it was an awesome match.
