Which CM Punk Is Your Favorite?

TheJbody

Dark Match Winner
My first thread so here it goes.

Now CM Punk has quickly become my favorite wrestler in the WWE. I was watching some of his old promos and thought to myself that he has changed since he first won the World Heavyweight title in 2008. So my question is which is your favorite CM Punk character? I personally like the Best In The World Punk better than the 06-09 one and better than S.E.S Punk.

none of them CM Punk is extremely over rated
Thanks for the absolutly worthless post and being "that guy". Get it out of the way early I suppose.

My favorite is the indie Punk. The one we see now is probably the clostest we will get to seeing that variation of his character but I like it none the less. I like it when Punk is allowed to just go out and speak his mind and say what he wants and have his matches. That's the Punk I became a fan of and the Punk that I enjoy the most. Never cared for the 06 babyface Punk.

My personal favorite is the 09 straight-edge messiah (not the '10 one that jobbed to big show and midcard scrubs every week), which is actually the first 'Punk incarnation' that I respected. I didn't care for punk in 06-07, didn't think he was a worthy champ in 08, but the heel turn / MitB cash in at Extreme Rules 09 and the brilliant promos that followed opened my eyes to see the true star the CM Punk is. Since then I've always been an advocate of a top heel run, but after Hell in A Cell of that year they made put him in the doghouse JoMo style and we didn't really get anything out of him again until this year. It's unfortunate though, because I really wanted him to be a dominant heel instead of (one of the) top face(s).

Someone else has already scolded you but wow, get a life troll.

Anyway, my favourite incarnation of CM Punk has to be his SES gimmick. This was he first grabbed my attention. Before, he was just some boring straight edged babyface. (When I say SES I'm including his fued with Jeff Hardy) I'm also enjoying his Best In The World gimmick he has right now. Aren't both of these gimmicks a throw back to his indy days?

My favorite CM Punk has to be the summer of 2009 version. The CM Punk that blew Jeff Hardy's name up with pipe-bombs for weeks after Hardy left the WWE again. I have ALWAYS thought that both of the Hardys were overrated, especially Jeff, and I never understood or appreciated their popularity.......so it was music to my ears to hear Punk tear apart Hardy. The stuff he said was very personal, almost too personal, but it worked great with Punk's character and it made for memorable promos. After this feud I became a fan of Punk through the SES to the New Nexus to the promo heard around the world and finally until the Best in the World era of today. Punk has the potential to be legendary, and personally, I hope he returns to heel form sometime in the future.

First of all I'm not a "troll" as you computer nerds like to call it but as Punk says I'm the voice of the voiceless I say whats on everyones mind. It's the truth everyone jumped on this CM punk band wagon and now everyone is hailing him as the next stone cold. THen everyone claimed to love CM punk before his "shoot promo". You Punk fans are the definition of "stupid marks' Because you don't even know your marks.

FOR EXAMPLE

You all claim to hate John Cena and his fans because he can't wrestle he's too PG all his fans are kids, when a couple years ago you couldn't go on a wrestling site and now hear how Cena was the best thing in the world THEN ALL THE SUDDEN, it became cool to not like Cena. Now he gets booed out of the area people are throwing his shirts in the ring after he throws them to the fans (which by he way is such a jerk off thing to do). So what to do now he was the face of the WWE and the WWE universe hates him. I know lets get someone who is anti cena someone who likes to break the 4th wall and make it seem like their against the establishment ENTER CM PUNK. He does his promo and now everyone loves him because he is the anti hero that people love so much but wait a minute after he was going to leave go to ROH or just quit all together but luckily they bring him back at the zero hour. Ironically enough once he is back all his merchandise is flying off the shelves and people are dying to see him. All the sudden people are claiming they have been his fans for years like the Bulls and Cowboys in the 90s. Vince played you tools, like xbox 360 he gave you a new guy spend more money. All the CM Punk fans did exactly what Vince wanted you to do.

Sadly this the problem with wrestling fans they need to be told who to like they can't form opinions on their own, so once they didn't want to like Cena anymore Vince game them a new guy to rally behind and fall in love with.

But i digress Cm Punk is just a fad he will fade away into nothingness because at the end of the day he is just a mediocre performer he doesn't really have a great look (Be honest with yourself when he was looking at Kevin nash saying I'm going to kick your ass how could you keep a straight face), his promos are decent but they have started to get stale and this whole i speak my mind I'm against the corporate guys is going to fade quickly as it already has to a degree.

To borrow a phrase from Vinny Mac "I garendamtee you" in a year from now all this so called CM punk fans will be doing the same crap they do with Cena now. Eventually it will be cool to hate CM punk then everyone will be claiming they never liked him.

I love all forms of CM Punk regardless of how he's changed or evolved and i seriously doubt anyone or anything can change thought feelings.

To me, he's entertaining and a good wrestler no matter what gimmick he's got.

Ok then ill change my post to start with 99.9% of Cm Punk fans and so forth. Does that make you feel better? Its ok you'll understand when your older what I'm talking about. Then you say that guy was right, he was always right then your tears will consume you but then you will feel better knowing you talked to such an enlightened person on the internet.

first things first, you're wrong. i didn't like punk until his SES days because he was boring before then. and i still like john cena. always have, always will. and god i wont feel better knowing i talked to you. infact, i'll probably not even remember you. GET. A. LIFE.

:lmao:This is the most self righteous response I have ever heard. It has been at least 5-6 years since any internet fan has liked John Cena, and I don't remember many liking him then. I agree that many people are jumping on the Punk bandwagan but they're are some who liked him before. Remember the people who cheered when he won his first WH title. I'm pretty sure that counts as liking. He has been praised by various magazines for years before his shoot promo and if you want proof go and read some independant wrestling magazine cerca 2008-9. And that comment about laughing at Punk claiming he can kick Nash's ass? I'm pretty sure any wrestler currently in his prime could kick the ass of a man with broken knees and a bad back. Oh, and you are a troll, you can call people who call you that computer nerds but by commenting on this site you are just as nerdy as them.

Uuuuhhhhhm, stick to the topic! Even you troll.

Anyway, my favorite Punk had to be when he first came in WWE. The way they built him up with the streak and Styles/Taz's commentary just made him out to be one dangerous mofo. This was lost thanks to WWE's TERRIBLE policy of booking someone as a weak first world champion but whatever. His ******** character (before the Jesus one) comes second. Can't wait to see where his current character goes. Heres hoping Austin vs Punk.

Number one, you're a nerd in denial. Number two there is no such thing as a "voice of the voiceless" on the internet. Number three, you're a fucking hater who can't read. This thread isn't about your skinny fat opinion about CM Punk and his fans. It's about what version of his character do you like best. If you don't have one, don't post here dummy. Lastly, you have no idea what you are talking about anyways. Punk has had a huge IWC fan following dating back to long before he appeared at his first Mania as an obscure gangster. Just because your slow ass is getting to the party late doesn't mean everyone else is too.

My favorite version is when he was feuding with Jeff Hardy. I felt like that could have gone so much farther, like a cerebral assassin (I kniow...) always playing deep psychological mind games with his opponent.

I don't know what age has to do with anything, but I'm sure I won't be thinking about some random person's post when I'm significantly older. Hell, I'll probably forgot about it before today is over. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your day, Mr. Internet Superiority Complex (one of many).

And on the topic at hand, I've pretty much enjoyed all of Punk's work since his 2009 heel turn. Unfortunately, his pushes were inconsistent but he always did well with what he was given. If I had to pick, I guess it would be his hardcore Straight Edge gimmick because it was what made him most unique.

I like the CM Punk that had his WWE cherry popped in the WWECW and then went on to of course win back to back Money In The Bank contests, had his feuds with guys like Jeff Hardy and The Undertaker, as well as the Straight Edge Society, he hit a great stride as a heel and to be honest I am not very enamored with his current angle in WWE.

Don't get me wrong it's nice to see the guy get a push and be rewarded for his work in WWE and his persistence to stand out above the rest. However, the whole voice of the voiceless and fourth wall breaking (which I know is not new in wrestling but still) seriously irritates me and the reason why I don't endear myself to this version of CM Punk like I do with Steve Austin is that he just doesn't have that same intensity that Austin had when he started rebelling against the establishment.

To be honest, Punk in my view would have been better off tweaking his 2009 heel persona as opposed to being this guy that makes references that only the IWC fans and not the casual fans are going to understand.

Bottom line (Pardon the pun):

Steveweisers>WWE Ice Cream Bars any f'n day....

Just my two cents....

Great question, it's like asking which is your favorite Jericho! I have to say the one right now. Love his edgy "best in the world" character and the things he says and does, it just amazes me. When Punk first came in as a babyface, I ddnt care for him at all. I knew he was great talent but I hated the fact that he won the MITB two years in a row. There was nothing special about him as a babyface. When he turned heel on Jeff Hardy, that's when I really started to love the guy. He knew how to work his way as a heel and that got him pretty far. He showed off his great mic skills through his S.E.S run, which I think was one of his best times in his career. Nexus Punk was whatever, still really liked him but hated that he tok over the Nexus, because I believe that even though he can be a great leader, he should be on his own. I always thought that Punk should just be heel for the rest of his career, knowing how bad his babyface run was back in his early WWE careers, but i change my mind. He is a face, but more of an anti-hero, and he has run with the ball.

"Indie" Punk - Badass, young competitor having great matches.

ECW/ECWCHAMP Punk - Was a huge fan from the start, him and Morrison were pretty much the only new, young guys I liked at the time and I dubbed them the future of the company(half sorta right if morrison doesnt become "Mr Future Endevore".

Tag Champ w/Kofi/First World Title Reign - Great Tag Team! Way Better than "Air Boom" and Finally getting some recognition, loved seeing him vs. Edge, sad he got injured and lost the title even though Y2J deserved it more.

2nd MitB/World Title - Now I put this as a seperate era cause he switched to a heel, which in my mind constitutes a different era in a wrestlers career. And as much as Ive always been a fan, this era is prob my least favorite. His booking before Mania 25 was awful, after a semi-good feud with chavo guerrero, then winning MitB back to back was SUPER WEAK! the whole point after winning once is to get u into that World Title status or near it but winning again and cashing in a cheaper way made him seem SUPER WEAK and look like the company had no faith in him(which I think was the original problem.) His feud with hardy seemed SUPER rushed and sloppy(both in booking and matches) and his feud with Taker was lackluster to say the most, especially for how good they both are. Just a weak era in my opinion.

S.E.S. Punk - Personally I really enjoyed this era, until is was thrown away with a bald stipulation and a lackluster feud with Show. How it started was genius and exactly what punk needed at the time. Gallows is great, I liked Sarina, I wasnt so much into Joey Mercury but I was curious where this could have gone maybe a couple good young guys replace mercury??? Why not make it a bunch of guys??? Well Ill tell you why, cause even those three couldnt pass the bar. Mercury sucks in my opinion, Sarina had to go get Drunk, and Gallows just never caught there eye I quess.

Raw Commentator/New Nexus - I also loved this era, he was AMAZING on commentary, and him leading new nexus made it relvant again, not to mention great matches with the likes of Cena, Orton, and Mysterio!

FAVORITE ERA: BEST IN THE WORLD/WWE CHAMP - Two words.....PIPE BOMB! ever since that promo before MitB, CM Punk proved he is worth his weight in gold. He became the "voice of the voiceless" and has cemented himself as a main eventer! Not to mention he looks overall more focused to me. Not just at MitB, but Summerslam, Vengeance, he seems more into the product and his abilities and I LOVE IT! He is the best thing WWE has right now and not too mention he is dishing out his best matches ever with Cena, Mysterio, Del Rio, Triple H, and the Awesome Truth.

Thanks for posting. I forgot the indie version of Punk so that's my bad. For the troll everybody is hating on I respect your opinion. I never loved Punk before the shoot I was just a casual fan of his. Cena was my favorite wrestler before Punk became awesome (more than he already was). And that's the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Take that lil jimmy.

I enjoyed Punk in the summer of 2009, his mic work was absolutely off the charts and the way he ripped apart Hardy on the mic was amazing, it was realy personal and the complete different type of life-styles made it believable. In my opinion his current character is slighty better than that Punk. I love the way he just throws pipe bombs, speaks his mind and 'dosent have a filter inbetween his brain and mouth'. He can back it up in the ring and altough he is a so called face, his character is not a fully through face. His indie days were great aswell but his 'Best In The World' gimmick stands out and is a very rare character WWE employ these days. His a supreme talent and like someone stated above;;-He can become Legendary.......

I was always a fan of punk but by far the "what your goanna do fire me" CM Punk of 2011 is the most evolved...especially considering that he was given the ball to run with. It felt real... Stone Cold Steve Austin is the only other guy to make a moment feel that real. When Austin walked in the ring with mike tyson and a brawl broke out.and vince's reaction implying that he was not in control of the situation...moments like that dont come often.

The guy is mr shock tv...if there was a main stream athlete or celebrity in the ring cm punk would get his cross over media appeal...but it would have to be a controversial celebrity...like lindsey lohan or someone like that.

His character is exactly the same as it was in 2006. He just gets more opportunity to speak and cut promos. He is the best since Jericho on the mic. His in ring work is solid. Damn kids get on here and somehow have the ability to make silly threads.

CM Punk is not a gimmick, so I can't say which of him has been my favorite. I am a tremendous CM Punk fan, like his tattoo say no gimmicks needed.

As far as looks are concerned, my favorite form of Punk would be whenever he had a full head of hair. Personally, I've always thought he was just a better looking dude with long hair. As far as gimmicks are concerned, it really doesn't matter to me. I never watched Punk during his time in the indies but I was one of the people who jumped on his bandwagon as soon as he debuted in ECW. I've always enjoyed him from an in-ring standpoint and thought that whether he is face or heel, he was a natural on the mic. Whether he was the squeaky clean cut drug free babyface, narcissistic holier than thou heel, or the rebellious loudmouth anti-hero I've just always enjoyed him. It's hard for me to really pick my favorite "form" of Punk so to speak. If I had to pick one that I think truly propelled him into relevance, I'd pick the SES Punk. This Punk would also include him during his feud with Jeff Hardy as that particular feud (which was one of my all time favorites at the time) would really lay the groundwork for what would become the SES CM Punk.

This current CM Punk is the best and he keeps improving.

This weeks Smackdown calling Christian "RustyBird" seemed to get totaly lost in the scene though and I wish the comment had gotten a little more recognition....I laughed my TITS off to be honest.

My favorite was the Straight Edge CM Punk of 2009 and early 2010. His feud with Jeff Hardy helped get me back into wrestling after I hadn't really watched for a few years. I also enjoyed his feuds with Undertaker and Rey Mysterio. His promos were great and he was getting so much heat. I still love his character and he is still my favorite wrestler and best promo guy in the company, but that is when I feel he was at his best.

I agree with the guy above... his feud with Jeff was great, the matches were entertaining and the battles they had on the mic were stunning. Shame it didn't last long though. I also liked his commentary spell, he made me laugh all the time.

But overall I'd go for the current "Best in the world" Punk simply because his character is great! The new look suits him well. He is an anti-hero, just like Stone Cold, but in a different way. He is a warrior that fights for change, on the mic he destroys anyone much like The Rock used to. I just wish that the conspiracy angle wasn't so dodgy because it just seems that his character is fading slowly in the mess. But still, this is the best punk yet!
