Where in the world is...Santino?

The 1-2-3 Killam

Mid-Card Championship Winner
I just realized something... We haven't had our weekly dose of comedy infused wrestling since WrestleMania! It seems like the WWE has split apart Santino and Koslov, and while the later has been popping up on Superstars from time to time, the comedy genius that is Santino Marella is nowhere to be seen! It seems as if they've swapped out all the cheap humor bits (except for the Rock's birthday celebration) with some intense heel action. Combine the R-Truth character turn where he constantly berates and even attacks the fans with Kharma's maniacal destruction of the divas, and Raw has become a much darker place. Miz tortured Cena at Over the Limit, Alex Riley turned on Miz, Cole's character has (at least for now) stopped being a whiny b*tch... I think Monday nights has gotten some of its edge back.

The only real question is whether you agree or not, and what you attribute the sudden lack of comedy to? Do you miss Santino, Hornswaggle, and their weekly shenanigans?

Sudden change of Joke's to realism shades of HHH finnaly taking over the wwe, I know vince isin't gone yet but I for one am glad of not seeing the Cobra.

entertainment or not I don't believe a man can be knocked down because some guy poked you in the chest.

If I remember correctly Santino had a much against Ziggler on Raw two or three weeks ago. Either way I do miss Santino. He is entertainment and I find myself enjoying Raw whenever he is on. He has natural charisma and humor, his finishing move is massively over, and so is he. I'm wondering if they are trying to retool Santino and get him into the midcard swing of things or if they are just going to relegate him to Superstars.

As for the lack of comedy I'd imagine it would be due to Summerslam coming up and the WWE putting some focus into that and that is why everything has been more serious and what not. Though I find R-Truth to be absolutely hysterical. I think once Summerslam has passed we may see some more humor from the WWE in terms of Santino or even Hornswoggle. Only time will tell I guess.

There hasn't been a time for Santino and his comedy. Cole/Lawler, Cena/Miz segments took up a lot of TV time. I only watched half of RAW last week so I don't know what they did to make up for the Cole/Lawler feud. I know Cena/R-Truth are now receiving a lot of air time.

RAW needs a bit of comedy. For awhile there, RAW was turning into 2 hours of straight comedy. It was getting pretty bad. Now that everything on there is serious (exception of some jokes or crowd reactions during promos), I miss a bit comedy. I'd like to see a good balance, mostly serious with some comedy thrown in. Keep Santino as a manager or something so I don't have to see that stupid Corba (and him 'paralyzing' Zack Ryder's legs with it).

I have been thinking the same thing. Where on earth is my weekly comedy on Monday Night's. Santino is nowhere to be seen. I would love to see Santino be repackaged and taken seriously and actually challenge for some titles, he is a good character. He has talent too believe it or not, but he is very entertaining , and I would love to see him back as the comedian of the WWE as well.

Santino was on RAW just the other week...

Anyway, all tag teams split eventually. RAW has gotten some edge back, but that doesn't mean it can't be comical and edgy. I don't exactly miss Santino, and I definately don't miss Hornswoggle. Santino is funny sometimes and can work a decent match, but everytime someone jobs to the Cobra, I cringe. As far as Hornswoggle goes, the less I see of him, the better. Hell, I've laughed more at Zack RYder than I have at him. WWE can have comical moments without Santino and that waste of money(I get that kids like him, but why?).

I wonder if this might have something to do with the impending invasion of Zach Ryder on Raw. No, I am not a Broski, I am simply suggesting that they might be doing something where Ryder is going to be taking over the comedy role on Raw and they want a more gradual transition. As far as Santino, I am guessing that they will probably just repackage him into a more respectable wrestler. Also, Santino's Cobra appears to go to the throat. I might be wrong but if I were to be hit in the throat, I might have a tendency to to go down, too.

to be honest raw needs some comedy

even in the attitude era u had too cools dance segments and backstage segments with headcheese, the rocks promos and stuff like tht.

i like the new take on raw but yea some comedy wud be nice

Santino's been wrestling on Superstars for the past few week. Did nobody know that? It's not that hard to find out. He hasn't been on Raw because there hasn't been enough time for him, so they put him on Superstars. Stop looking too far into everything.

Honestly I havent noticed him being gone from Raw. I'm not a fan of his 'comedy' and now you mentioned it i have realised why Raw has been a bit better recently. I love Raw atm with the 'darker' personalitys taking over. IMO leave Santino on Superstars and keep Raw the way it is.

Wrestling has always had and will always need comedy workers. Santino and his Cobra are great escapism from having a segment where R-Truth goes off the deep end. I actually find the Cobra funny, and the heart punch is a more plausabble finisher then, shall we say, the Canadian Destroyer, niether is Wade Barrett's finisher a plausable finisher.
As for Koslov, he'll be getting a phone call from Johnny Ace any day now.

RAW needs the new edge it has, but wrestling needs comedy as well. Randy Orton made a comment about Santino being a feal funny guy to be around when they used to be on teh road together (before WWE). And you know Randy Orton wasnt laughing at any kids-party jokes. Thats what Santino does, kids party jokes. The look, the accent, teh colourful attire, hes a clown without the makeup. He needs to start making jokes the likes of The Rock, Chris Jericho, and even John Cena have made in the past. That sort of comedy didnt make us feel as if our sense of humor was being insulted. He either needs to get his character restructured, or become a manager.

RAW does need comedy, I think it should be 55% action 30% promo 15% comedy because all 3 do its part to entertain us and I think Santino got yanked too soon because I didn't think he was stale one bit. He's hysterical, and I wish they used his talents as a legitimate (IC) title contender in addition to his comedy.

Rpsulli85 brought up a very good point though, this may be the cause of Zack Ryder's impending domination over the comedic divison of RAW. Each week he gets more and more airtime that he brags about on his Z long island shows so I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting weekly segments by August

I know it is odd isn't it? I don't know, WWE sometimes has habit of doing this. I don't mean just dropping a guy, specifically building a guy up for a while until the point where they have spent a lot of energy and time on them and then they inexplicably drop them from the limelight. They did it with Huskey Harris who is, as most people would agree, better than Michael McGuillicutty. They did it to that Eric Escobar guy on Smackdown a couple of years back. I'm sure they are most recent examples also.

The problems started when he started being a serious contender for the tag titles way back when. See as most guys know, comedy can make you popular but it can't really elevate you on the show to real serious feuds, people just won't buy it any longer. And this happened with Santino when he was a tag champion. They sacrificed his comedy talents to have him hold the belt, it was a one or the other situation. Big mistake. Santino was way over for his comedy antics last year and they put him in a less entertaining role? Who knows why? It isn't as if they value the tag titles a whole lot.

Anyway. He'll come back soon probably and be his old lovable funny self. I don't know. I mean I thought it was obvious to play a guy to his strengths? You don't have HHH doing commentary, Cena doesn't work backstage doing the electrics, Yoshi Tatsu isn't a manager. Just let him do comedy, he's world class at it. And as good as Ryder can be, he can't hold a candle anywhere close to Santino.

Honestly, I do get a kick out of Santino and The Cobra. It's pretty funny to me. I would rather take it in small doses though. Every other week would be nice. Now I do I see a little bit more darkness to RAW but I like my hint of comedy in it as well.
