When will Morrison return to Nitro?

Mighty NorCal

SHALL WE BEGIN?
No, not the show. Fuck, I wish.

I mean the gimmick. Not an actual DIRECT return to it, but to a more legit rockstar type persona. He basically has it already, besides the theme music. He doesn't do the Doors type shit during his promos anymore, practically nothing about him has any influence from that gimmick anymore besides that hammy ass music.

And lets be serious, can you REALLY take him seriously as a ME type guy, a fucking TRUE ME guy with that theme, or any of that gimmick still lingering? No, not really.

I maintain that a full departure from that 70s music and persona is all that stands in his way. He is more than capable on the mic, very charismatic, and is coming along nicely as far as his notoriously shotty ring work. Just a bit more modernization to that theme music, and he will be ready to go.

You're not the only one who misses WCW Nitro lol.... I don't really miss Johnny Nitro though. I prefer the Morrison character.

Yeah I noticed that myself. He's been changing (very slowly, but changing nonetheless) lately into a more serious role. I had no problem with his promos when they were stranger, and I also like his music more now than the song he used as Nitro (which Melina ended up inheriting)....

Honestly, yes. I could still have taken him seriously as a main eventer even if he was still doing the rockstar style of promos from this summer. Sure, they were a bit cheesy but it was something different. Morrison would have stood out by being different than all the "I'm playing myself without a gimmick" main eventers that every brand has. Cheesy gimmicks are a thing of the past, but wouldn't standing out from the other guys be a good thing as long as the guy can get the job done in the ring (which Morrison excels at) and do good promos (which he can also do)? I'd take him seriously as a main eventer despite a somewhat cheesy gimmick (even though I agree that he seems to have been slowly moving away from it).

I don't have that much of a problem with his music because it fits with the slow motion entrance that he does, especially now that the pyro is slow motion too. If they were to change it then it would have to be something really badass that replaces it and nothing comes to my mind that would fit that well. They'd be better off not changing his music or gimmick in my opinion because he is good enough both in the ring and on the mic that he could still be taken seriously even if his song is a little cheesy and his promos used to be.

I just don't know what exactly he is supposed to do though. Is there a clear cut line that we can walk and say "This is what John Morrison should do?" I don't think it's come to that yet. I liked the "far out" Jim Morrison esque promos, I thought they were great. The whole "I'm enlightened but way out there" thing.

Now you are right, he has moved waaay away from that, but as originally stated, what do you do then? At this juncture I don't think there is anything that can be done. It's like a boulder running down hill, it's just to late to stop it. I'm afraid that if you tried to change almost anything about what he has going on at the moment, it might confuse the fans or something, or it might in some way slow his progress as he would be starting with a seemingly new character(to some degree).

If all you are calling for is a change of the music....Well, that might be possible without derailing his success. All I am saying is "Don't change a good thing" and at the moment it seems like the music along with everything else is working just fine. I think this character is a little more evolved, a combination of his original persona and the "Morrison" persona. I personally wish he never changed his name. I thought " Johnny Nitro" sounded like a great name, but apparently Hennigan thought it sounded too immature, he wanted a more serious more mature sounding name or something. As a result they repackaged him as "John Morrison" with the far out gimmick and all that. Now that character has turned into what I was saying before, some incarnation of both characters.

I totally bought him as ECW champion, I was glad he had finally got a major title. I have been saying for a while now If you have any questions about Morrison in the Main Event role, don't. This guy can do it, you just have to put him in there and watch. I have nothing but confidence that this guy can go as far as he wants. He has some room for improvement mic wise, but he is still light years ahead of a lot of guys, and that's about all the real criticism I could give him. I think everywhere else the guy has got it, and the mic thing comes with time. As I have been watching though, he has been improving consistently. Every time he has got the mic time I have noticed he seems to be getting more comfortable, and having more fun with it. He is about 90% there.

Personally, I love the music. I sing that shit every time he comes out, I love it. I like the Jimmy Hendrix voice in there and the groovy guitar riff. I think it compliments him perfectly. On the other hand, I think your going to get your wish soon. This February WWE is releasing a John Morrison DVD calling it John Morrison: Rock Star. Maybe after they get that agenda out there and in peoples minds they will change it up. I don't think it is necessary at the moment. Of course in the future as he hits Main Event status, like other main eventers his music will need to change. Note Triple H, Randy Orton, Batista, John Cena as a few guys who got to the top with one theme and after reaching the top got a new one. It is only inevitable. Hell, Miz isn't even Main Event yet and he has new music.

I think after Wrestlemania when the draft comes along that Morrison should or will be going to Raw, it's about that time if they want to send him to the top. I don't know how you would shuffle the other guys around to make up for it, but I think that is either what's going to happen or what needs to happen. If that were the scenario, that is when I would be watching for the music change.

The John Morrison character is never going to be a world champion. There's just no way anyone is going to buy into a pop culture figure from 40 years ago and truly take them to heart. Nitro needs to come back, if nothing else because it is a much cooler name. I get the feeling that he'd work as a cool face, and right now he's a bit gawky. If the rumours of Joey Mercury's return are true, a feud with him may take him back to his roots, and it will also give that team the closure that it never had but thoroughly deserved.

Well, the John Morrison name is better than Johnny Nitro any day of the week. As for his Jim Morrison rip-off gimmick. I think that's slowly fading and will continue to as his push towards main eventing continues
