When did you lose interest in Sean Waltman?

Figured I'd throw this in the WWE/TNA section since he's worked for both companies more then once each.
At what point in the career of Sean Waltman did you lose interest and just not care anymore?

For me, I wanted to like the guy. Really did. Remember the first run as the 1-2-3 kid. was really young at the time, so seeing this kid beating up the bad guys made me love it. Now while I didnt watch too much WCW back then, so I missed his NWO run, I remember watching RAW the day after WM, and the new DX where he was brought out. I loved that too. The first couple months I liked the X-Pac character (I was young.. Forgive me), the move set, the energy. All of it. But for me, I think I lost interest around the time that HHH turned his back on DX. Seemed at that point Pac became too bitchy. The teaming with Kane involved Pac getting beat up the whole match, and Kane doing the real damage. It just got boring. Everything after that.. X-Factor, NWO, TNA run 1,2 or 3.. None of it really mattered to me.

So, how about all of you?

For me, I lost interest in Sean Waltman pretty much as soon as he ditched the whole 1-2-3 Kid schtick. In his various reincarnations as X-Pac, Syxx, or whatever else his moniker of the day was, I was never a fan. The 1-2-3 Kid thing, with the underdog going up against the established superstars such as Razor Ramon and either beating them or at least giving them a good run for their money, I was a fan of that (which is ironic because I am not a fan at all of Rey Mysterio who has made a career of this stuff).

Once he changed his type of character I quickly lost interest. It became apparent that his actual in-ring skills were very limited. His mic skills consisted of screaming stuff as loud as possible, often directed at whichever company had future endeavoured him most recently. It became obvious that he was a bit of an asshole as well.

I am a WWE fan first and foremost and I hope he never graces the inside of a WWE ring ever again. Because I also want to see TNA succeed, I hope he never returns there either. The thought that he may be affiliated with the Wilpon group I find pretty laughable. Good luck to them if they are hoping to build a successful organization with this guy involved. I wish no hardship upon the guy, I just hope he completes his career in the indies, or overseas, or in Mexico, where I don't have to see him.

Once he left WCW (NWO) and went back to WWF. He was very convincing as a heel lacky type cruiserweight wrestler in the NWO in WCW. Once he came over to the WWF as a co-LEADER with Triple H (and later THE leader) that was it. Plus, X-pac, the name was pretty stupid. Syxx was a great name as he was the 6th member of the NWO. Made perfect sense. And Syxx-pac was a play on Tupac. X-pac, however, doesn't make any sense at all. That was it for me. Pretty simple.

Then he came out with the sex tape too and that didn't help his case by any means haha

As soon as he joined DX. I enjoyed DX. Loved HHH, loved HBK. Despised X-Pac. Sean Waltman was fine as the 123 Kid, his upset win over Razor Ramon was one of the biggest surprises of the early 90s...but when he became a member of DX, and became a punk ass bitch, I lost interest. Its strange...I loved HHH and HBK doing that schtick, but with X-Pac, it was just annoying. Like, Jeff Jarrett kind of annoying.

At some point and I'm not sure when, Waltman just slowed down dramatically. He became a guy that used the X Factor and the Bronco Buster and some kicks. Other than that he was just this guy that was out there doing his thing without any rhyme or reason. It always seemed to me when he went to WWF again everything just kind of slowed down for him. He stopped caring it seemed and there was no soul in him anymore. That and the whole X-Pac vs. Giants thing just got really annoying. He was out there beating monsters like Kane and Show, which just got stupid after awhile. It's the same reason I got sick of Rey recently, but that's another story.

i got sick of him during the X factor days. thatwas it for me. He was cool as the lighting /canon ball/1-2-3 kid and he had a lot of youth and energy. But after DX broke up he teamed with Kane and stunted on Kane's ass and tok his girl and i thought that was bullshit. i loved him as the litle guy in the outsiders, he had his big bad friends and they took care of him, that was cool, that was real. His time in TNA never took him anywhere. I also never understood what the fuck an "x pac" was..

This.

I remember when he was introduced by DX as the newest member, and when he came out it was a total dud (for me, at least). I just thought to myself "Really? Syxx is your guy? Zzzzzzzz...."

With the NWO in WCW, he played an adequate lackey, much like a number of Ravens guys did with his Flock, so imagine Lodi being introduced as the newest member of Degeneration-X and you'll know exactly how I felt about seeing Syxx re-debut.

lmao okAy thats fair but i think when they introduced Syxx they expected you to know a little back ground info on why/how he was able to fit in DX. aT THIS POINT IN wwf history alluding to the Kliq as a tool.

I'm concurring with many before me. I lost interest when he formed X-Factor. Looking back at his successes, this stable was fruitless. Sean was a breakout in WWF as the 123 Kid. He captivated audiences with his fast paced, underdog mentality and won big on many occasions. Then I remember him as Syxx, brash, adulterated, cocky, and loud. He had an attitude and swagger that complimented every member of the NWO. Sure his mouth wrote checks that he, himself, couldn't cash, but that lent to his appeal as a heel. Then, when Triple H reformed DX, X-pac was the scrappy, high energy member igniting crowds with his moves that were, according to good ole J. R., "quicker than a hiccup." He rode the wave of DX until he faded into obscurity. Then as the leader of X-Factor, he bored me. Such a profound man with incredible athleticism should have been capable of so much more, but he ended up failing miserably. And then, then he spent one of many nights in Chyna.

I think the reason that worked for me was because I knew the history between them. Also I didn't watch WcW at the time he was there, was only in the promo he cut about Hogan and co. that I found out about it. Being a dumb young kid at the time, I fully enjoyed the run in DX of him and the Outlaws with HHH and Chyna. Some of there stuff really cracked me up. Can't say I was a fan of him going in Blackface though. Thought that was a little risky. But the invasion of WCW was funny (sorry to you WCW guys, I know not many were a fan of it) but once DX fell apart, there really was nothing left for him anymore, and after turning on Kane, even if he was made a face, the fan's just did not care anymore. Think that was around the time that the term "X-Pac Heat" was coined.

thats something I forgot to touch on Jabroni Beatin. The evolution of his career went from youthful upstart, to viable tag team competitor to stable member to mouth piece. Te reason why this is bad is because each role gets him further away from what he was circa '93, a viable upstart singles wrestler. Its like he was going through all the positions and finally with DX dissolving there was nothing left to morph him into and he began to fault in wrestling and sports entertainment.

Thats why X Factor failed, why Syxx-Pac failed, thats why the X Pac Heat phenomenon started, thats why his career is a failure.

Who it was that decided to shift his roles and whether or not Waltman is at fault or could had parlayed batter is a matter of debate and speculation for another thread.

I had respect for him when he was the 1-2-3 kid. He was his own entity. He was always the little guy taking on the big guys. Then he started taking steroids and he partnared up with other, that's when I stop watching him.

I lost interest when Billy Gunn got hurt early in 2000 and X Pac started teaming with Road Dogg. That team didn't really do anything for me and I was just getting tired of X Pac at that time. He came off as more annoying than entertaining to me. I briefly, very briefly regained some interest when Justin Credible came in early 2001, but it quickly became obvious that wasn't going anywhere.

X-Pac was probably my favourite wrestler in the late 90s, and he summed up the DX spirit pretty much better than anyone else managed to, and he had the crowd on side. I can't remember exactly when it was, but I do remember him leading almost the entire roster, including some big names, to attack The Corporation, and the crowd went mental. However, he went shit when DX turned heel, he just became a lame-arse lackey and never really recovered. That faction he was in with Albert was fucking terrible wasn't it?

I lost interest in Waltman during his X-Factor run, I only really likd Justin Credible from that faction anyway.

Pac was decent in WCW, I really liked him in DX, but he just got sloppier and more boring as time went on. When he returned in the WWE version of the nWO, he just plain sucked. Then in TNA he got worse. I hate how each of his runs are so short as he fks up and has to leave. Its time for the big US wrestling companies to cut their ties with the guy and leave him to work the indies and mexico.

With HHH and Nash still being prominant figures in their respective companies however, its only a matter of time before Waltman is back on our screens....Yey!

I liked Waltman right up until X-Factor with Justin Credible.
I first encountered him as Syxx, then I didn't mind him as X-Pac. Even teaming with Kane I thought was cool. He cut Kane's grass, which wasn't cool and turned heel for the 364th time.
But my eyes were opened during X-Factor. He just plain sucked, to the point you could argue he was a pioneer of the moves of doom set.
Kick - Spinning heel kick - spin kick combo in corner - Bronco Buster - X Factor
Credit where credits due - he's still plugging along. Personally, I would have joined a monastery or become a eunuch after waking up next to Chyna.
So to summarise, early 21st century, the little guy just started getting hated on. Everyone woke up and X-Pac heat was born.

For me after his angle with Kane and Tori, all relevance was lost
And the only reason I remember this is coz I'm a Kane mark.

All in all X-Pac didn't matter to me in DX.
Atleast Road Dogg would do some funny-ass shit on the mic and drop some hilarious lines.
Another forgettable ponce is Billy Gunn, who is best remembered for saying 'then we got two words for ya...' and being the 'Ass Man'.....which would explain his affiliation with Chuck Palombo later on.

Bottom line, Sean Waltman's shine-out moments for me were:
1. The win over Ramon as 1 2 3 Kid
2. His impression of Ken Shamrock
"IT'S FIVE KNUCKLE SHUFFLE TIME AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!":lmao:

It seemed to me, that his heel turn against Kane is what truly killed his career. After that, no matter what he did, the crowd shit on him. Amazing match or not, the crowd literally hated him to death.

Even during the Invasion angle, the fans still boo'ed him over Billy Kidman who represented WCW, despite guys like Albert, who was in the X-Factor at the time, getting cheered for beating up guys like Hugh Morris and Shawn Stasiak.

I started watching WWF in '99 so all his 1,2,3 Kidd stuff and his WCW run i've seen retrospectively. I enjoyed X-Pac as the small upstart who was really fast paced and in your face, and then he turned on Kane and he just seemed to reduce himself to doing karate kicks over and over, the bronco buster and the X-Factor and that was it, while also turning down his over all energy that he put in to every other aspect of his character As if he thought to himself, if they're going to shit on me regardless, what's the point in trying? Plus he's walking around screaming in his raspy voice non-stop, actually taking up more screen time than the hot Tori and the entertaining Road Dogg had combined.

Then X-Factor formed. Him, Justin Credible and Albert. The premise of this stable apparently, was that these guys were fed up of being overlooked by management. Well, Justin Credible had literally joined WWF like 2 weeks prior to this stable forming, so that made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Albert was a hairy mothafucka that people just taunted and heckled and showed no respect to. His in-ring skills weren't bad, but he had no charisma at all. Apparently he thought shouting at the top of his lungs whenever he did a splash or a choke bomb was enough to cover up his total lack of mic skills....... how wrong he was. Still lasted a while though.

And these two misfits who don't even truly belong together, are led by friggin' X-Pac of all people.

Most fans had lost interest in him by then, so seeing him form a shitty stable that didn't even make sense just seemed to make the whole deal so much worse.

So, for me, i gave up caring in late '99 basically.

I lost interest in him a couple of weeks after I was first introduced to him. I was only a wrestling fan for about 6 months at this point, I had absolutely no idea who he was and I'd heard from a school friend that "The 1-2-3 Kid is Shawn Michaels' replacement as the leader of DX". At first I thought the name was completely ridiculous, but knowing the antics of DX I figured there must be something I'm missing because surely they'd never replace Shawn with someone who was as lame as that name sounded.
Obviously it came to pass that Sean wasn't replacing Michaels at all, he was just a new addition and he came with the name X-Pac, which to me sounds a lot better than The 1-2-3 Kid, so I had high hopes. At the time because of what my friend, a longtime wrestling fan had said, I was still under the assumption he was supposed to be the leader.
Perhaps all this biased me against him from the start, but I was expecting a lot more than someone who jumps about a lot, going overboard with crotch chopping and hanging his tongue out constantly like an overheated dog.
Ever since the let down of him not being a top tier guy like Shawn Michaels, I've never seen anything of worth in him.

After he returned to WWF as X-Pac is when I lost interest. I was still interested when he went to WCW and became 6 Pac. But his return to the WWF openedd my eyes that he was just annoying.

I was never that impresed with his kicks or his facebuster finish. And the Bronco Buster was just...how do I say this without sounding homophobic....hmmmm....really really really really really gay. It is good when a hot chick does it, but not him.

I liked the way he was initially dealt with in the WWF. Classic underdog that beat Razor Ramon by a fluke. Turned to the dark side and joined the Million Dollar Corporation.

Plus, he had a SWEET mullet!

you guys missed alot of his early work in Global Wrestling in the early 90's. thats when he was at his best as The Lightning Kid. he was an aerial specialist who really was the first of the american "cruiserweights" in that decade.
he just lost it by the early 2000s. i think his problems out of the ring took over. its sad to say, but i wish him and Scott Hall would just go away. it baffles me that these two have gotten 2nd chance after 2nd chance when they are obviously just trouble in any locker room they set foor in.

I started watching wrestling in late 1996 so I never got to see him as the 1-2-3 Kid. I thought he was kinda OK in WCW but there were better cruiserweights around so I guess I did not notice him much. When he went to WWF he just got annoying. He used to botch a lot of moves and the Bronco Buster is a very very stupid move. I mean how much can your crotch hurt a guy? I guess it could make you feel disgusted though.

I was pretty impressed when I later saw some of his matches as the 1-2-3 Kid especially his match with Owen Hart. But he did not have much of a character as the Kid and would have found it impossible to get over in the Attitude Era in that persona. So I guess a change was needed but it was not a good change.

I really never liked the guy. He was cool as the 1-2-3 Kid and interesting in DX with Trips.... and I hated him in his singles career as X-Pac, let alone his TNA stint.... but I think it was from day one honestly. I never liked him. He wouldn't have been cool as the 1-2-3 Kid if it weren't for the Razor Ramon feud, and he wouldn't have been cool in DX if Trips wasn't in it with him. I am going with day one because I never liked him in ANY angle or match unless it involved another wrestler who I liked a lot.

I always like him. When he was in DX i thought he was the coolest guy around because of how fast he was and how he was so good on the video game. This always kept me interested in Sean even in his TNA run when he was being pushed as a main eventer i thought that he always deserved it. Everyone has fans somewhere so threads like this are really not necessary.

I think when he was coming towards the end of his WWE career and was just getting real boring and predictable in the ring. Sean was very talented, but never achieved as much as he could in wrestling. He was unique in his size, and had a great moveset but hs just got more and more boring and offered less.

Now, I haev no intrest in seeing Waltman wrestle, he has been overtaken by better and more talented workers, and has little left to offer now.
