When did the Fans Tire of Hulk Hogan as the All American Superhero?

FunKay the Inevitable

People Like Me, We Don't Play
First off, if this is in the wrong section then I apologise and feel free to move it. Onto the topic, I was watching the 1991 Royal Rumble when it dawned on me that although I couldn't here it, I could see the fans at ringside cheering when Hogan was eliminated by Sid. Now let me explain, on PPV when it was broadcast live, the fans actually DID cheer Hogan's elimination (it was later edited for obvious reasons) and one of the reasons was (in my opinion) because Hogan's character had grown stale. Now my question is this, when did that all-american hero character begin to grow tiresome? In my opinion it was shortly after The Ultimate Challenge before it was re-vitalised by The Triangle of Terror Angle/Iraqi sympathizer angle in 1991. This is my question to you posters out there.

i dont think it ever grew old because hogan was hogan if they would have stopped liking it he wouldnt have caught as much heat with his NWO turn which im sure we all agree was the most important turn in wrestling history

Maybe you did not see Royal Rumble of that year too closely. I also distinctly remembered Hogan being cheered after he was eliminated. If I had to wager a guess it would be because of him staying with Elizabeth too much even before Randy Savage turned on him. He was already getting some heat after dropping the belt and seeing Savage as the holder and although he was the face in the situation I know a lot of people cheered for the Macho Man a lot so perhaps they were divided. Also he really had no business getting too close to Liz like that even if it was a storyline.
