What's your favorite - Wrestling DVD?

Rockyfolifebo!!!

Pre-Show Stalwart
Okay, forgive me if this is in the wrong spot or whatever. I'm a noobie to the posting things so, yeah. I have a series I've been thinking about for a while now that I've wanted to introduce. So i was thinking, What is your favorite wrestling DVD? Here are the rules:

1. It CANNOT be a pay per view DVD release

2. Please provide an explanation of why you picked it (I'd love to hear others' opinions on this topic)

My personal favorite is The Rock: The People's champ. It will always be special to me because I watched it so many times during my early childhood. I believe it was released in 2000, and it does such a great job of reviewing his career at his most popular point (mid '99 to early '00). It helped make him my favorite wrestler of all time, even to today! Yeah, I know it doesn't have any OFFICIAL matches, but it's my favorite.

So what's yours? Ready, set . . . GOOOOO!

The ECW one. I don't like DVDs that is heavy on matches as I've seen most matches, instead, I prefer documentary style DVDs. The ECW DVD was an incredible documentary. It featured relevant guys telling their stories, and it really gave you an insight as to how ECW was.

Yea i gotta go with the Rise and Fall of ECW. It is a great documentary and really catches the essence of what ecw was.

HONORABLE MENTION- Self destruction of the ultimate warrior. It was really interesting to see another side (granted its a really shitty side) of a man I idolized when I was younger.

I'd have to concur with the others, Rise and Fall of ECW was just an amazing dvd, it showed some awesome moments, touched on so many subjects, and had Paul Heyman involved in it so you know it was a much more accurate story than the WCW revisionist history dvd that came out.

When it comes to anthology of matches and second place in documentary it is Bret Harts dvd... man there were amazing matches, different types of matches, and some major matches in Bret's career.

Honorable mentions go to the Warrior Dvd (just because I really enjoyed Warrior back in the day), Hulk Still Rules, The Road Warriors dvd, Brian Pillman's dvd, and Benoit's dvd (we at least it was one of my favs)

I love the DVD's that give an in-depth look at a wrestler or a promotion.

I would have to agree with others and say "The Rise and Fall of ECW" is the greatest WWE release I have ever seen. The in-depth stories and interview really do reveal interesting facts and with Heyman involved it was not a WWE-style glossing over of the topic. Heyman told it how he saw it, and that was great to see, and the other WWE-contracted ECW talent were able to show what the company meant to them, tell stories about their time in ECW and shed some light on some of the rumours. I thought that DVD was a great tribute to a great promotion.

For those of you who like that, you need to check out Forever Hardcore, which is a documentary by Jeremry Borash of TNA which is basically the same as the Rise and Fall of ECW, in that it tells the story of the promotion, focusing on the controversial aspects of the company, and all the major moments in the company's history. Thegood thing is, it is full of wrestlers who ARE NOT under WWE contract and they are able to reveal things that WWE would not want you to know, and give their un-biased, uncut views on what went on.

Guys like Sandman (who really lays into Kurt Angle over the crucifixion angle), Raven (who mentions drug use), New Jack (who talks about using scalpels to cut open Mass Transit and how he had brain fluid coming out of his nose after a botched bump), Shane Douglas (who gives insight into the famous "throwing down the NWA title" incident, Sabu (who talks on camera for the first time ever), Terry Funk (who explains why he chose to do Hardcore Homecoming ahead of ONS), and many others including Tod Gorden, Gabe Sapolksy, Kid Kash, Francine and more.

It is the view from the other side, without WWE interferance. Although "The Rise and Fall Of ECW" was pretty accurate and true to ECW and what it stood for- "Forever Hardcore" is perhaps even more revealing. As it is an independent release it is really cheap to buy on Amazon. I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you love the WWE's ECW documentary, you will love this even more. There are no matches, just great stories and insights from some of the controversial ECW originals

i ahve alot so ill name the few i really enjoy mostly b/c there all documentrys

rise and fall of ecw
Undertaker: This is my yard (2001) out of character and even talks about his time in wcw
the history of the world heavyweight title
breaking the code behind the walla of chris jericho
i know you said no ppv's but TNA global impact hasnt seen in the us in its entirty and i think its freakin awesome.

ones i disliked:
DX one last stand. terrible maybe the worst dvd ive ever seen. reminds me of old wwf vhs tapes id rent of matches i saw 8 months ago. basicly it spands from DX from summerslam vs legacy till WM 26. just watch the matches on youtube

hart and soul: i loved the bret hard dvd and i love documtries... but this actually bored me. i really dont need a break down of every hart brother and sister even the ones that never wrestled.

For me, my most favorite one is the Monday Night Wars DVD. It highlights every great moment from the good, old days of the WWF and WCW. And the constant, weekly battles for ratings and the stories that the wrestlers had to say was interesting to me as a wrestling fan.

Honorable mentions go to - The Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment, The Ladder Match, The Rise and Fall of ECW and WCW, Heartbreak and Triumph: The Shawn Michaels Story, Tombstone: The History of The Undertaker, and Edge: A Decade of Decadence.

One of my favorites was the Monday Night Wars DVD because it successfully captured great moments from both federations while telling the story of how WWF and WCW tried to outdo each other each week to get the higher ratings. Could it have been better? Sure. I would have loved to see bonus material in the form of a WWF disc and a WCW disc that came with it, each full of extra fan favorite moments and a string of memorable matches for the respective federations. However, the DVD is great for what it is. It tells the story of one of the most popular times in the history of wrestling. Most of us are nostalgic about those days and can look back on them as we watch it.

For me it has to be
Breaking The Code:Behind The Walls of Chris Jericho
I am a huge Y2J fan so this pick is no surprise, but out of all the WWE docs I've seen this one had the best story(his path to the WWE was amazing) and is the most interesting. Also on top of the great story of Chris Jericho's life & career the DVD set features tons of his greatest matches. One thing that I loved was how he picked the matches that would be on the set, he said that he didn't pick the matches based on whether he won them or not but the quality of the matches. The definitely are excellent quality and so is this DVD set, so if you have not seen it put it on your list of things to see because whether you're a fan or not you will enjoy it and have a new found respect for him :)

Forever Hardcore: Absolutly awesome dvd, with all the guys WWE couldn't get for their ECW dvds. And the view points are great and the stories told memorable. As for the matches, the selection, while not my style, definatly pertain to the hardcore audience.

And this dvd does one other amazing thing: It made me utterly scared ****less of New Jack!

Cause Stone Cold Said So! Just pure hilarious throughout the whole video. Austin's commentary, some of his clips and even the end credits are just LOL material. I'm glad he didn't play babyface like most other wrestlers in their DVD's. And it's great insight on how Austin rose to the top although the VHS/DVD only covers his KOTR 96 qualifier with Mero up to his WM match with Bret not his first WWF Title win but still that's when Austin 3.16 was taking over the world slowly.

Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definitive Collection DVD

Thought it was a great DVD, and a great look at his career. You had a great documentary which went through his career, showed how hard he did to get back after breaking his neck. He vented his frustration about how hard he had it in WCW. I loved him going into how WCW completely fucked him about, telling him they wouldn't need him for over a year and bringing him back three - five months later.

Then you had great matches, Flair and Steamboat, Flair and Funk, Flair and Briscoe, Flair and Triple H and his final match with Shawn Michaels.

Great DVD, I would advise anyone to buy it, they also have his best promos from NWA and WCW.

WWE - The Ladder Match 3 DVD set. Just about every great ladder match from the last 2 decades on it (Hitman/HBK 1992!) The Ladder match isn't even my favorite gimmick but this set had the goods.

Honorable mentions Randy Savage 3 dvd set and Edge 3 dvd sets. Some of the best wrestling ever. I love gimmick matches and Edge was one of the damn best. Thank you Adam Copeland!

I have to go with the rise and fall of ecw. I loved the promotion and the stories told by the wrestlers were very interesting. I liked how they dedicated a chapter in the documentary to the fans(they were as much part of it as the wrestlers). Paul Heyman was the most insightful and that's good because he was the head of the promotion.

Other dvds I liked are any dvd kayfabecommentaries.com did with Jim Cornette. That guy is the king of shoot interviews! In his Guest Booker dvd he shows us how the wcw invasion should have been REALLY done.

id have to go with the WWE Ladder Match DVD i loved this DVD espically TLC 1 & 2 on there! i love the ladder match and i love the tlc match there my favorite match types possibly ever (espically tables, ladders and chairs!) and TLC 1 with the dudley boyz vs the hardy boyz vs edge & christian has been my favorite match of all-time ever sense i watched it live on ppv that night! just the insane shit they all did and i was pumped when E&C won the match as i was a huge fan of them back then (i liked the hardyz as well but E&C was my team back then) and i love watching the insane shit that happens in ladder matches espically when guys like jeff hardy and shawn michaels step into the ring for a ladder match....this was the best DVD i ever bought and i have quite a few im hoping to get the steel cage one that came out recently as well soon

When it comes to anthology of matches and second place in documentary it is Bret Harts dvd... man there were amazing matches, different types of matches, and some major matches in Bret's career.

I think Ladder Match was the 1st WWE box-set I bought, and I am so glad I did. There are so many awesome matches on that DVD, some which remain in my top few of all time. The Hardyz v E&C tag-team ladder match from No Mercy 1999 is in favourite 3 matches ever!

The classic TLC matches, Rock v HHH at Summerslam, Bret v HBK, HBK v Razor and even the moder day ware are awesome

Non stop quality action throughout all 3 dics, Ladder Match is definitely worth watching. 5/5 from me!

Tombstone:The History of the Undedertaker
It focuses on the matches, and the promos of the undertakers career, you don't realise how much the guy has achieved without watching the DVD.
I love watching his feud with Stone Cold in the Ministry era, Shawn Michaels and Mankind in the mid-late 90's. And with Brett Hart in the mid 90's.
Great watch, and a great look on his career

I think I will be the only and get some heat but I really the latest John Cena DVD since it really shows how he really contributes to the wwe and all of the organizations he helps and me personally I really appreciate the charity he does and helps out the company.

Man this is kind of hard... I've got 3 tied for the number one spot.

Beyond the Mat- was very controversial at the time. Gave an interesting look into the non-kayfabe side of the business. The Jake Roberts segments were a little sad to watch. I enjoyed all of the Foley segments, he really is a class act.

(Forgive me for not remembering the exact title) The 4 Horsemen DVD- Nothing too shocking in here, lots of great stories and footage of Dusty Rhodes getting beat down.

The Wrestling Road Diaries- I'll admit, I have some bias with this one because I'm a huge Colt Cabana fan. It gives a great look into the lives of indie wrestlers. Also, has a lot of funny moments and the Danielson/Bryan fans will enjoy it too.

on a side note doesnt chris jericho look like he is taking a dump into an Edge shaped toilet on the cover? I gues he is the best in the world at what he does:lmao:

My favorite wrestling DVD would have to be the 3 disk collection of the WWE Hell in a Cell . dont quite remember the official name of it but anyway it is awesome! my favoirite matches of all time pliled up in one epic DVD. the blood fore, and overall qaulity of matches on this collection is superb. but damn it disc 2 freezes on the HHHvs Y2J match and it frusterates me! regardless what an epic DVD collection:worship:

I'd have to go with Bloodsport: ECW's Most Violent Matches. I've only seen a few non-PPV DVD sets and this one is around the first one I saw. I don't think it had a whole lot aobut the history of ECW but it included a lot of hardcore matches.
