What to do with Global Championship?

shattered dreams

Hexagonal Hedonist
It seems likely that TNA realizes this championship needs to get a makeover so it can work as a good mid-card title. So my question is what do they do with it and how? They could delve into the past or try and make something new (although they have failed at that twice thus far legend/global). My vote of these options would be TV title.

The traditional option is the most practical but least exciting, which would be making some sort of US title. I am not really sure they have a good person available to make that transition though. I guess here they would unify the titles then retire the global one before debuting the new title.

Outside the box, Joe could come back with an TNAized FTW championship. Not very likely but if done right could be really fun.

A TV title would be a nice blend of tradition and excitement.I would like RVD being used to build this one up.

Hardcore title. If they ever pushed Abyss back out of the main event picture this could work as a nice alternative to wwe. I am not sure this title would be a long lasting one though judging from history.

Submissions champion. Would not be a good mid-card title because a lot of guys are not meant for technical matches but at the same time it would be a nice way to put some emphasis on such a style.

Yeah it needs a name change, I never really thought TV title was a good idea mind sounded kinda cheesy to me. I'd go with something like International champion, I think it needs to be like the US title was in WCW you could even win that after you had won the world title and it never seemed a step down. Whereas with the Intercontinental title in WWE or the TV title in WCW it always seemed like a step down. So yeah I'd go for International champion think it sounds good.

Leave it as the Global title. Just let someone hold onto for a very long time. If someone can carry this strap for awhile and have good matches while retaining it, then it will begin to get some credibility. If you keep switching belts and names then it becomes a meaningless toy with no history or credibility. So just have someone hold it for a long time and it will naturally become relevant.

i think you have a great idea as using it as a stepping stone as the US title was for WCW back in the day but i do believe that if anyone could do it, it would be RVD with the TV title. His run in ECW was run was probably one of the longest and best. It might get people to watch. you never know

Yeah it need sto go to an exceptional wrestler for a period of time I believe. I think it should go to a heel thats great in the ring. I remember when Shawn Michaels was the IC champ in 93 and I hated him, he never lost that title, he'd always get lucky or something. Was very clever, TNA needs to do this with the Global title.

yes but as global it has the same meaning as world championship. but i do agree that it needs to stop changing names. so probably a merger of the 2 belts and than introduce a new belt. it would give rob terry a push and allow a new belt to be introduced without changing the belt a 3rd time

I don't know why you guys are so stuck on names. Let's name the title Legends, next thing it's lets name the title the tv title, no let it be the international championship. What TNA is doing with the belt is fine. They're building up credibility with the title while making Rob Terry credible and unstoppable. That right there alone can help give the belt some meaning. Give TNA time. You people just jump down there throats too much with the constant suggestions. Let them breathe.

That could be said for a lot of titles. I mean in a literal sense whats the difference between World and Intercontinental. World means the entire earth and Intercontinental means every continent so...they literally mean the same thing. I agree don't change the name anymore. Its not the name that makes the belt its the wrestlers that have held it. Changing the name discredits the belt further. When it was a Legends belt you had Booker T, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, and i'm not sure but i think Christian as well(maybe he was just in a feud though). Since it became Global Eric Young, and Rob Terry. I think strong matches and feuds will evidently bring this belt to a level of importance in TNA sooner then later.

I think TNA is trying to build credibility for the belt by having Rob Terry defend it on TV. Granted his defenses haven't been that great, but he's defended it more times on tv since he won it than EY did his entire reign.

Ideally, I'd love to see Desmond win the belt, either with or without Flair/AJ's help, thus making their partnership official. It would be similar to a horseman angle with each of them holding championships.

I'm not so worried about the name. The important thing is to establish it as the second highest title in the company, a la the US or Intercontinental title.

I'm saying just give Rob Terry someone to combat with.

The name is fine, it's not that big of a deal. And for the dumbasses who keep saying that it means the same thing as "World" why don't you take a step back and look at WWE's Intercontinental title... it too means the same thing as world. And yet there's no complaining about that.

And the worst idea for renaming the belt is changing it to TV title. That's like restricting it to only being defended at TV tapings... which IMO is ******ed as a true champion is supposed to be able to defend the title whenever he's challenged.

The simply solution is to give Rob Terry someone to rival over it that matters. Someone like RVD or Jeff Hardy. Somebody who will make him look legit.

Besides, the Global title isn't the second tier, title... The X-Division belt is.

I think It's fine like it is. Like in boxing, a lot of titles have the word "World" in it...I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I also think Rob is capable of helping the title seem that much more valuable...specially for casual people who just flip channels and see this huge guy with "THE GLOBAL BELT".

I think the name is fine but they need someone else to carry it. Terry needs to learn to wrestle. If i wanna watch a bunch of 5 move wrestlers ill watch the wwe there full of them. I like how he could be the TNA's version of batista since oh wats his name left for his mma career.

I don't mind the name of the belt but they need to do soimething with rob terry i mean that guy is huge and its like all his title defenses are squash matches. They need to build a heel to battle with him and start a fued for the title that way it will build huge intrest for the belt.

I've seen threads like this before, and I also voiced that they should make it a TV title. I didn't think then that RVD would be around, a man who made a TV title almost as relevant as the World Title in ECW, if not more so.

Don't think that TNA hasn't thought of bringing back a hardcore division at some point. But I think we all know that version of "hardcore" wrestling has run it's course. Also, they are having a hard enough time getting the X Division to matter; I don't think they have the focus right now to create and support another niche division of submissions only or all-Hardcore. Part of the potential draw of the X Division is that it includes all these things, but TNA can't seem to decide how important the X Division is.

The nice thing about a TV title replacing the Global title is that it's also not limiting in who can compete for it. It doesn't need goofy gimmicks of "never being defended on US soil" (from a company that tapes in Florida...yeah, we'll be seeing lots of this title). It doesn't need to be stuck in one type of match like a hardcore or submission only title. It just makes booking easier.

Well the first thing TNA needs to do is take the title of off Rob Terry and put it on someone thats going to make the title seem important. For example let someone like Mr.Anderson hold the title everyone pretty much likes the guy let him hold it for a few months and let him fued over it with guys like The Pope, Abyss, Daniels, Kaz, Matt Morgan, Hernendez or Desmond Wolfe make the title the second tier title that's going to elevate mid-carders.. Another thing the Global Title could use is a make over but I can pretty much say that about every TNA title they all look like cheap toys that you by from Wal-Mart or Toys R Us. And IDK maybe they could change the name of the title but the name is o.k. to me IDK why so many people dislike the name of the title honestly its not that bad of a name but I guess TNA needs to do what they have to do to please the fans.

It should just be renamed, its already completely changed, Mr Anderson had a shot, and he is american, and it was in America, It was meant to be held overseas and only against foreigners, althoughthat might've just been for EY, I think it should just get a name change.
I think Rob Terry has been a good champion, because he CAN wrestle dammit, it gets me annoyed when everyone says he is shit, and he is on steroids, all bullshit, he is a WRESTLER, he can WRESTLE

TV title for sure.

Every time the other titles are on the line on Impact you know who is going to win and its predictable. The TV title makes it to where you really don't know how long a reign is and sparks up the mid card division.
