What killed country music?

Milkyway!

Hodor!
In your opinion, what did it? Theres still some good country music singers, but when you asked todays world as to their music selections, only people that are like 40 years+ listen to country music. Everyone else thinks it sucks. I personally love country music, and think its music is like none other. Granted, a bit depressing sometimes, but others its quite the good. It sing to you, not about sex, drugs, alchohal, all that good stuff. You're suprised to hear the word ass, shit, or bitch in a country song. So what killed it?

For anyone that says its still going, and isn't dead. I get its still going pretty strong, but its no where near as big as it used to be.

I can't stand country music, I grew up in Oklahoma where every radio station was country music, having to listen to country for five years straight ruined it for me.

As far as what killed country, I would say its the evolution of all types of other music, there is so much of a selection out there, that in my opinion, country just really dose not compare.

Its so true about the 40+ for country, and its because when they where young the selection of music was no where near what it is today, country used to be huge, and it fit with the times, but these days, country just comes off as old and boring, but that's just my opinion.

I see, but honestly theres a bunch of country music diversity out there. Just listen to Taylor Swift, she includes a bit of a flow, like R&B. Kenny Chesney, for your classic Country fans. Underwood, is more rocknroll style of country. People only listen to the crappy stuff in my opinion, when theres a crapload of really good songs out there. Its just like rap. Lil Wayne is horrible compared to some of the underground stuff I've heard Ty Burna post, and talk about. Same thing with country, you've just gotta dig a little deeper, to see the other side.

Shania Twain. Canada's greatest claim to fame in the country music industry. But what did she do, besides releasing the highest selling album by a woman as well as the highest selling album of all time in the country genre. That is great and all but what did it do? It created a country sound that was no longer country music, and was now "pop"ular music. She effectively brought the genre into the main stream. She did fucking incredible doing it as well. I give her that. But from that moment, country music was no longer for country music fans, and was now for everyone. I guess you can attribute this to bringing the genre down from a pure version.
