No, not at all way more convenient. You have less control over the audio you wish to use, the process is still the same, the only difference is the creating AAC version/renaming the file as .m4r.

It's not more convenient at all, and I find installing software which only has one purpose much less convenient than installing software which has many uses.

No less than they'll use your tool. But, for example, when our high school baseball team creates walkout music, they cut songs to be played (using Audacity). When people are creating their Movie Maker movies, they may want to use only parts of music, or even mash songs together.

I can see a lot of uses for the "average user", that you don't get with whatever your program is. If you're going to have one program on your computer, why not make it one that can do a lot of things and is open sourced, so it's much more likely to always be around and free of charge?

Audacity is the end all be all of free audio editing software for any need. Personally my phone has an app on it to just create the ringtones right then and there from my collection on the phone so that's what I use.
