What if Vince never put all the other promoters out of business? ( When he bought the company from his father )

Do you think that Pro Wrestling would be as big and as successfull as it is today?

Personally, I think that Vince destroying everyone did more bad than good. Think of it this way, Vince is Vince, we get it. I'm not sure if he would be able to succeed with the other promoters up and running. I feel that right now we'd have a lot of different products, more alternatives, constant "wars" between companies.

What's your view on that whole story? I have limited to no knowledge about what went down back then so I hope that this type of thread has not been done before.

All? If you mean old school ECW and WCW then yes competition would be better and there would be more options for wrestlers to go to if unhappy, and because this would give wrestling fans more exposure to wrestling and would make every company try to make the best product.

And there is still TNA (not as huge as either ECW or WCW but still a promorion besides WWE) is still in buisness, with a 1.0 average rating, but that is besides the point, there is also ROH (not on cable tv but still a good promotion).

And since when did Vince put them out of buisness, ECW filled for bankruptcy, mostly for reasons besides WWE, and WCW brought itself down (Finger poke of Dome, need I say more?)

He made the industry a mainstream phenomenon from 1998- about 02. If he didn't kill the promotions then all of the stars that he had more then likely wouldn't have been with him. He made wrestling more popular to the masses, which has to count for something. While some people still view it as 'garbage' form of entertainment, Vince helped make it famous. However, he hasn't had to work as much as far as storylines, now that the competition is gone, which has affected his product. He now knows that he doesn't need to go all out since he doesn't have anyone competing against him. The options other then the WWE are limited, but that's exactly how Vince wants it to be.

So, in all, I would say there's some pluses and minuses, depending on how you look at the situation, as a whole.

I don't mean THAT competition. I meant the competition he destroyed when he bought the company from his father. Maybe I should've been more clear.

Hey now! Those other promotions sold to Vince. He didn't just crush them and walk away. He bought those promotions, used their stars, and made professional wrestling a big deal.

If he didn't do that, Professional wrestling would still be traveling act, and would only sell out shows at the county fair. He made an industry and profit out of it.

If he didn't buy those promotions, we wouldn't had Wrestlemania, or Televised wrestling. We would just have the same old circus act that sold out 3000 seat arenas.

Sorry then, I just assumed ECW and WCW since those get rid of the competition, were two name brands that (well not really ECW) gave WWE a run for there money. But Well it's the same basic thing you can't be mad at him being a Wrestling promoter and trying to, it has been done before and will be again, not just in the Wrestling world but the real world too.

I don't think that Vince really hurt the business that much, regardless of how much he is blamed. He did make it big, he took it to a worldwide audience. He did business and he did it in a legal way - not sure how that can be termed as bad if the others didn't have business-sense like him and if they weren't as smart as him. Pro wrestling is very popular with fans across continents and countries, thanks only to Vince.

It's a hard question to answer just because there are so many hypotheticals attatched to it. Wrestling would still be as big, I'm sure. It was the sydication of wrestling which began wrestling as the entertainment phenomenon it is today, however for that to flourish the buying out of regional promotions did allow to have those stars all competing together.
However the NWA already existed to combine these regional champion promotions into one consolidated championship, and the prestige of that belt gave great strength to the territory who had the champion. But again, it was the cable tv deals which killed this off, as an inevitability as the business grew from a regional carny industry to a media industry.
The success of wrestling in this genre then just made it viable for others to get into the game, and wrestling grew to the extent that in the 90's it was dominating cable ratings.
Vince made wrestling what it is today!
