What are your favourite 3 tracks by...IRON MAIDEN

NEW SERIES

I have fancied doing my own series of threads for a while, and I will try and do a couple of these a week, at least one a week for sure.

What I want people to is to post the video clips of their favourite 3 tracks by the specified band, and to explain why they have chosen those particular 3. Obviously, if the song has already had a youtube clip posted then there is no need to post it again.

I like to learn about what makes other people tick when it comes to music, and something like this is a good way to do so!

For my 1st pick, I have chosen one of the biggest bands in metal, who have recently released their 15th (and maybe final) album, England's own IRON MAIDEN.

Please post your top 3 Maiden tracks and tell everyone why you chose these ones!!

I will post my choices to get the ball rolling on this thread

By far my favourite Maiden song, The Evil That Men Do is an absolute classic. Instantly recognisable from the intro, there are not many other songs that get me going as much as this one.

It builds up and up until the awesome chorus, and Dickinson sounds better than ever. If I was making a CD of my all time favourite songs, this is almost certianly on there.

From the Rock in Rio CD The best Live clip I have ever heard. I love how Bruce introduces the song to deafening cheers, and then the fans sing along with the tune until the lyrics start. It is a brilliant song anyway, made even better by the huge audience getting involved.....then it kicks in.

Just brilliant

This choice may surprise people, as it is not one of their biggest and most famous hits. From one of their recent albums, I remember seeing the video on Kerrang! TV and just thinking it was absolutely awesome track. If I ever see Maiden in concert, I really hope this is in the set list

Honorable mentions that just missed out on my top 3 include

Wasted Years
The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Can I Play With Madness
Aces High
Flight Of Icarus

Great thread Naitch! My top 3 Maiden tracks?

Well here's the first one:

"Hallowed be thy name" is probably my favorite Maiden song. Is so impressive, I remember reading the lyrics for the first time. I couldn't believe you could write such a great lyric and about thaht kind of topic. Probably one of the songs that means everything for me as far my musical tastes and inspiration is concerned.

"Wrathchild" was the first song I heard from Maiden. It hooked me right away, it was great balance netween punk and metal.

Talking about being an awesome vocalist. So easily my four favorite Maiden's albums are: "Iron maiden", "Powerslave", "Brave new world", "A matter of life and death". And "these coulours don't run" is my favorite song from the latter. I'm so impressed how with the years Bruce Dickcinson haven't lost his voices, IMO he is even better than ever!

Nice thread, not an easy choice though.

Aces High, awesome song here love every thing about it. Very cool how they use Churchills speech to start it off. Then of course it kicks into a series of awesome riffs, my favourite being the pre chorus one (Running, Scrambling, Flying) and of course as is customary for any Iron Maiden song there is an awesome solo. What I really love about this song is Bruce's voice, it is so powerful even more so than usual which is impressive.

Run To The Hills. My god that riff at the start is awesome, just absolutely amazing. Not just the guitar though, I like how you can hear Harris's bass so easily, a lot of songs you have to listen to hear the bass, in this song it is always there chugging along. What I love the most about this one though is Nicko's drumming, some of his best work, from the cymbals at the start the song is instantly recognisable, not often can you know what a song is based just on the drums but this is one of those occasions. His fills before the chorus are fucking spectacular as well.

The Trooper. This is my favourite Iron Maiden riff ever, it just sounds so fucking cool. Really there isn't much more to be said about this one, it is driven by a great riff and some cool lyrics just a great rock song.

Honorable mentions go to Fear Of The Dark and Powerslave

1. The Evil That Men Do
2. The Trooper
3. Wasted Years.

TETMD is #1 because i've always found the lyrics to be very meaningful. The whole idea of loving someone while being forced to follow your evil urges just hits home with me.

With The Trooper, i just love songs about soldiers going off to war only to be left to rot in the field where they're gunned down, mainly because they usually encompass my feeling towards war in general. My favourite song of all time is 'Disposable Heroes' by Metallica which is about the exact same thing, so that's why The Trooper ranks so highly among my fave Maiden tracks.

And as for Wasted Years, Devildriver covered it on 'Pray For Villains' and it made me fall in love with that song all over again.

Thanks to the guys who have posted in this one. For my next band I will try and choose one that more people will be willing to join in with.

Probably Metallica, Alice In Chains or Soundgarden

Or maybe cut it down to one favourite song rather than a top 3, maybe people cant be bothered posting 3 videos??
