Were the promo notes on Rock's wrist a work?

A question that I never did find out the answer to. It's something that still has me stumped. Some said it was intentional, to give Cena something to use against Rock. But others said it was legit, I remember thinking Rock's reaction seemed genuinely pissed off as if it wasn't planned. Rock's promo is also very stumbly afterwards which is unlike him.

@18:06

So what I want to know is, is there a definitive answer on this? I was thinking maybe it was covered on the Rock-Cena DVD.

I figure it's a work, and something for John Cena to use going into their match that gave Cena more credibililty.

The Rock is a moviestar that has to remember lines of dialogue at a time. I don't believe he really needed to mark notes on his wrist for a 15-20 minute promo.

And looking at the promo on Youtube now, he made no obvious motions to even hide said notes.

Rock has had notes before, sometimes on him, sometimes written on cards off screen. But ask yourself this...have you ever seen notes on Rock's wrist before. In all the time he was a main event star, cutting promo after promo, electrifying the millions (and millions) of The Rock's fans, have you ever SEEN the notes on his arm?

Maybe he was rusty, I don't know. But for my two cents, even on the rare chance that The Rock made a mistake that blatantly obvious, do you really think Cena would go out there and shoot on it? If it was a shoot, I would bet money it wasn't John's idea. Like, Vince saw the words on Rock's arm, said "hey we can use this to get him heat", and made a last minute change.

It's like all the people that say Punk's shoot was legit, or that somehow Vince didn't know what he was going to say. Nothing happens on that program that the producers aren't aware of in advance, save for people dying from heart attacks, and wrestlers attacking people in the audience. If you want to live in that world, and suspend your disbelief, I actually applaud you because you're probably much less jaded than I. But it's just not reality. Maybe Rock didn't know about it before Cena said something, but Vince did. Guaran-damn-tee it.

Okay but...

That's what I thought it would be. I've never thought that John did it of his own accord.

t's like all the people that say Punk's shoot was legit, or that somehow Vince didn't know what he was going to say.

Well that's different because it's been confirmed several times that Punk's was a work. Which is not the case here.

I think it was a work, as Rock held the mic in the hand with the notes written just below, they were blatantly on show. If he had not wanted anyone to see them, he wouldn't have made it so obvious.

Cena wouldn't have brought it up without knowing before hand, it would have been very unprofessional to bring it up otherwise.

So have any interviewers asked him that question?

To this day it's still confusing. It just felt absolutely ridiculous and had nothing to do with that promo whatsoever. Why give Cena an edge? I don't get it. It's not like Cena can't stand his own on the mic.

As far as Punk promo it's still controversial issue. Main idea is that it was worked but he actually meant everything he said. You can clearly see it in his face that he was legit pissed off.

Acting coaches don't get paid big bucks just to get mediocre facial expressions.

From what I understand, Vince has been high on CM Punk since Punk told off Tony Atlas in OVW. I mean Vince personally chose to travel and bunk with the likes of Edge and CM Punk years ago on a tour to Afghanistan. And instead of writing Punk of TV for an injury, Vince wanted to keep him on TV and instead put him on commentary. The way I see it, Vince and Punk were just reciting every quote that the internet faithful have had since he came from ROH... except the whole WWE title part. It was as much of a shoot as Stone Cold actually hating his boss in the 90s.

Yes it was a work remember it was to help push rock as an actor instead of a wrestler and relied on lines.... Rock sold it like a champ.
