Ladies and gentlemen, judges, my esteemed opponent, I am speaking you today on why the greater asset to the professional wrestling today is Kurt Angle, and I shall now urge you to agree with me.
Kurt Angle, in 1996, won what no other professional wrestler ever did, an olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling. He then signed for World Wrestling Entertainment
in 1998/ Kurt Angle brought something to wrestling that was really needed, he brought realism. Wrestling, as everyone knows, is staged. The performers would be considered more actors then sportsmen or wrestlers. Kurt Angle was the man who brought the feeling of realism to wrestling. His olympic gold medal made wrestling seem more of a sport. Thjs legitimacy made Fans who had previously felt that "It's fake so it sucks" to "Maybe it' more like a real sport than I had previously thought. I might just watch it."
Along with making wrestling seem more like a legitimate sport, Kurt Angle brought attention that was definitely helpful to the business. He brought
mainstream attention to World Wrestling entertainment, causing a huge increase in viewers that improved the company. Kurt Angle was the man who made people think " Hey, he has a gold medal, maybe I should watch" or "wrestling might not be so fake after all".
Aside from all of this, Kurt Angle was the complete package. It's quite obvious that he had incredible wrestling skills. He is without doubt the best technical wrestler ever. But nowadays, when you think of some of the best
technical wrestlers, wrestlers who were accomplished amateurs, you think of Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, Jack Swagger. With the exception of Swagger, most of them have the skills, the ability, but lack everything else that is needed, such as charisma, mic skills, psychology, the ability to get "over" with the crowd. But Kurt Angle possessed all of these attributes. In 2002, he won the wrestling observers award for best in interviews. An award that has been given to wrestlers like the Rock, Mick Foley and Steve Austin. Wrestlers known for these things. And Angle possessed greater in ring ability then all of them. If that doesn't show how he is the complete wrestler, I don't know what will. He is still today one of the best stick workers in the business. His mic skills scream one word: Believable. When he speaks, his tone of voice, his facial expressions, all portray that he means what he's saying.
But Kurt Angle doesn't just look out for himself. He travelled to the young upstart promotion, Total Nonstop Action, and worked to improve it like he did with the WWE. Except he didn't just bring his medal, he brought
familiarity in the professional wrestling world. When he appeared on the big screen, the crowd went wild, a testament to his popularity. When he came, the first thing he did was engage in a feud with the young star Samoa Joe, instantly thrusting him into the spotlight. If it weren't for this rub from Angle, Joe would never be the main eventer he is today. Joe's first title win came at the expense of Angle in one of the best matches I have ever watched. The same goes for AJ Styles, Angle had a series of great matches with him, showing AJ for the superb wrestler he is. At the moment, he's been putting over and improving young wrestlers like Bobby Lashley, Hernandez and Matt Morgan, those who will be main eventers soon enough. He's helping to mould these wrestlers to give TNA a future. There is an age old saying that you get better by playing those better than you. This can be said for Angle. These could pull TNA up to the WWE's level, and Kurt Angle will definitely be given a lot of the credit.
No matter what happens, Kurt Angle shall leave a lasting impression on this business, whether it be for his gold medal, or with World Wrestling Entertainment, or with Total Nonstop Action. Kurt Angle's name will go down in the annals of wrestling history, not only as the only ever olympic gold medalist, but as one of the best professional wrestlers who ever lived.
Oh it's real. It's damn real!
