Watching the New NITRO DVD

Costs about £25 in England, we always get ripped off with WWE dvds...still gonna buy it though

Where the hell are you getting WWE DVD's from? HMV?

Buy from Silvervision the 3 Disc DVD's cost £18 and you get them early.

Honestly Sting before he went Crow doesn't do it for me.

You mean at the height of his physical abilities? Crow character was better, but Surfer Sting was the far better in-ring competitor.

Don't understand why people would pay money for TV matches. What made Nitro special was not the free TV matches, but rather the atmosphere which surrounded the show for over two years. And that's just not something you can capture in a match compilation DVD.

Exactly right. It was the ultimate male soap opera, drama unfolding each week. Some of the best sports entertainment television of all time. Matches weren't always great, but the nWo thing, for the first year, was rather amazing television.

Meh, I'm a wrestling fan. I don't watch wrestling for the matches.

Believe me, that makes sense to me.

I get you watch it for the stories, but all stories have to have a blow off - you know, in the wrestling ring. So whether you say so or not, you ultimately are watching for the matches.

Perhaps, but how many of those blow off matches happen on free TV? Not to mention, how many blow off matches did we actually see in WCW for the majority of their existence after Nitro went on the air? Hell, even what should have been the most obvious blow off match in history, between Sting and Hogan at Starrcade '97, had a swerve ending to further the feud.

I see. I thought you were saying you didn't care about matches in general, not just TV matches.

I care about matches that serve a point other than to get me to watch more matches. TV is nothing more than a 2 hour advertisement for a big show/PPV. Always has been, always will be, with the only variation on how long the TV show is.

There have obviously been some good TV matches, I'm not saying there haven't been, but most are just throwaway matches. And a DVD of matches which may have been decent, but were basically time fillers or advertisements, just doesn't interest me.

Good point, sometimes I just like to kick back and watch some good ol' wrestling. But most matches should serve a point. But some matches just serve a point by being decent and getting people on TV, like say, Kofi Kingston vs. Zack Ryder on RAW. Gets the new IWC darling Ryder on TV, gets him shown to a wide audience. Kofi wins a match, looks good, and with Ziggler on commentary it built the feud. But matches like that all together on a DVD, if they are all filler, has no real point. But as a fan of wrestling, I'm sure I'll sit back and watch it at some point.
