Was Right to Censor one of the Worst gimmicks?

I just finished watching on you tube the worst gimmicks in wrestling I agreed with most but I had to question one.

Right to Censor I think it was a great idea but just poorly done. They were during the attitude era when wrestling needed the most censorship (if there ever was). They were perfect to get under our skin and for us to hate, what I didnt agree with was the fact when they beat some one ( where the stipulation was if x loses they join RTC) the ppl joined with no extra fight. Another thing I didnt like was the fact they always seem to win if someone was going to lose their gimmick if they lose.

So was the gimmick bad or was it just mishandled?
Do u think a similar gimmick would work today?

I actually liked Right To Censor. I mean back in the day I hated them, but I can appreciate the gimmick now, being that I'm older.

I hate to be those AE fans that goes on and on about how great it was, but I mean even with such a cheesy gimmick they were over. The boos they used to get, is what some of the top heels today wish they could experience for just one night.

With that said, that gimmick would be terrible to use now. It would make no sense. There's nothing at all to censor. RTC would be an extremely annoying faction that has no purpose.

I thought Right to Censor was great, could have been played out better but they drew major heat every week, every city they went to. It could argubly be the best thing at that time, which had happened to the likes of Steven Richards and Val Venis. They both Main Evented on occasions while they were members of Right to Censor and I even remember an episode of Smackdown where Steven Richards nearly gained a victory over The Rock, just coming up short. Again, could have had more affect but for what it was, it brought a good few laughs.

A gimmick like Right to Censor wouldn't make much sense these days. When they formed WWE was still rude, crude and full of Attitude which gave them something to look down on as a group. What is there for a group to demand censorship in the WWE these days? Nothing really, unless they want to object to the word "ass." It was affective once but it wouldn't be as affective now, if at all.

HAHA RTC, what a Club Classic that theme was, yeah, back in the day i absolutley despised them, and i was scared they would capture good wrestlers and turn them heel by brainwashing them, but i can very much appreatiate them now, they were heat magnets, damn, that theme tho, awful, shat myself every time i heard it

Right To Censor had major league heat back in 2000. Except for the McMahon-Helmsleys, they were the most hated faction in the company. They stood against everything the fans considered fun and the fans HATED them for it.

This definitely was not one of the worst gimmicks of all time. If anything, it was a forgettable gimmick that served its purpose for a short amount of time. This stable was meant as nothing more than a parody of the PTC, the group that was petitioning against WWE's sponsor with hope to have them drop their advertising.

Let's not lose perspective and say this group was mishandled. They were fodder/filler. That's really all they should have been given that they were led by Stevie Richards.

RTC got huge heat. Their mockery of the Parent's Television Council was a great blur of the lines between reality and professional wrestling. For me I would get annoyed when someone like Sable said she was going to get naked. At that point you knew the RTC was going to ruin it yet the paying audience would eat it up and boo the hell out of RTC.

Ivory, next to Trish is my all time favorite overall female wrestler. I found her stunning and so talented as a heel. She puts Beth and Nattie to shame. Her denmother-like character was so well done.

My only complaints with the RTC were that they never made it further and Stevie Richards became Steven Richards instead of Richard Stevens.

i have to disagree. the Right to Censor had a TON of heat before they got stale and boring (which happened sometime after Royal Rumble), but they had a ton of heat. Steven Richards as the leader, as a fan, you just wanted to see him get his or get punched, put through a table or whatever. you wanted to see The Goodfather beaten down because he stopped bringing out his ladies and you wanted to see Ivory and Val Venis beaten by Chyna after what they did to her and you wanted to see the Dudleys throw them all through tables. this group had a ton of heat, it wasnt Edge and Christian, but they were good at getting heat from their terriable music to what they did.

GSB says it perfectly,I thought that Right To Sensor had a great run at a great time in the WWE. I mean not only was their mock group great in general but they brought them in at the perfect time during the Attitude Era. Not only was idea great but they delivered in their characters as well, I thought that the group worked great as a unit and they got heat like crazy. Hell I remember being a kid watching them on WWF and booing them as loud as I could, and then doing a little victory dance when Bull and The Goodfather lost their tag titles. Right To Censor was an unfofrgettable group that was part of a defining time in WWE history, I thought that they were a great stable and look back on their time fondly.

This was absolutely one of those ideas that is great on paper but bad in hindsight. The whole point of RTC was to write off the Godfather to cater to people opposing his controversial gimmick. The Goodfather was the motivation for the group and it was the worst move of his career. Same goes for Val Venis. If the group was just Steven Richards being a dick, it would have been solid. Heck, it should have propelled him to main event status. However, because their were other guys who wwe invested in already, the writers were not committed completely to the group and were more committed to the characters.

I HATED the RTC at the time, that music would drive me absolutely insane, but I think looking back you can see that it was a great idea for a heel faction.

WWE at that point was still in its Attitude era with alot of subjects/storylines that could offend people and be deemed innapropriate, and the RTC was the perfect dig at the censors and people who were criticising the show.

Steven Richards was fantastic as the snivelling coward leader of the group and showed mic skills I never knew he had, and I look back now and actually like how The Godfather and Val Venis changed their gimmicks after "seeing the light". Ivory was a total bitch in the RTC too with her long dress and hair up in a bun. I loved seeing Chyna eventually kick her ass at WrestleMania!

The faction wouldnt work in WWE now as there is nothing worth censoring but back then it was a perfect fit for the time and the style of the WWE in the Attitude Era.
