Usain Bolt

The Todd

Championship Contender
The man is a machine. 9.58 seconds for the 100m, out of this world. This was built up as a sprintings biggest face off between Bolt and Gay. Tyson Gay was on form throughout the year and people thought he had a chance at beating Bolt. He ran the fastest time by an American in the history of sprinting. Yet he lost by over a tenth of a second. It wasn't even close. Bolt blew him out the water.

Athletics needed this result, Bolt is the type of sportsman that fans can be interested. Many will love his excuberance and will tune in to watch how quick he will run, others may hate his cockyness and will watch to see him lose. He is the kind of figure that athletics craces to get it's image back to entertaining sport.

Michael Johnson's reaction at the time at the end is all that is needed to describe Usain Bolt. The man is 22, is the fastest man in the planet's history, and seems like he can keep going quicker and quicker.

The best thing about his run was it finally answered the question everyone had after the Olympics last year: How fast can he go? He ran 9.69 with some "showboating" before the finish, and now he shave .11 seconds off of that, which is an eternity in sprinting. All you have to do is look at the time of Gay, who finished second, to see how dominant this man is. Gay finished in 9.71 seconds, .13 seconds after Bolt.

Yeah a lot of people I knew were bitching about this very fact. "Oh he didn't try as hard as he could, he could have gotten so much faster"

Well I mean:

1) how do you know that? What right do you have to tell him to run faster for your satisfaction?

and 2) He's allowed to showboat a little. Wouldn't you if you were the fastest man in the world?

This guy is that fastest man on the planet, which is something amazing to be able to claim. What scary is that he probably can and will be beaten in the future. I mean only 20 years ago, the fastest time on record was 9.92 seconds. With Usain beating that by 0.4 of a second or so, it really leaves you to wonder, just how much further can the human body be pushed? And how much does Usain have left in him? It may be possible that he can run even faster.

And he just broke his own 200m record by 0.11 seconds as well (from 19.30 to 19.19). This man is not human. Cant be. Either that or it must be the new shoes.

Fucking hell, his 200m was better than his 100m. They said Johnson's 200m record would never be broken. Bolt just beat it in Beijing then a year later smashed it by 0.11 seconds, into a headwind. This may be the last time we see him break both sprints world records in the same meet, as he says he may stop doubling up due to fatigue.

Anyway, Bolt has single handedly made people interested in athletics. If he sticks around for a while, and if somehow someone could be a realistic challenger to the man, athletics could hit a purple patch. People are now talking about athletes being incredible instead of saying "oh they're all on drugs anyway".

Usain bolt.... More like Insane Bolt. Seriously this dude is just like "what the hell did he jsut do that". He is so fast adn so young. I really cant see anyone beating him for awhile let alone his record. This dude has a great grasp on lifea s well. He loves it, he is confident and best of all he isn't one of those steroid taking bitches. He is just a great guy and I am glad he is dominating in running.

The 200m is more impressive. What people forget, or perhaps never knew, is that nobody at all had run within 0.3 seconds of Johnson's time when Bolt first broke the record. The man is a machine, ande I don't doubt that the Jamaicans will break another world record tonight in the 4x100m.

The thing about the 100m run, while we're here, is that he spanked Gay. Now that, in itself, is probably not that suprising, what is suprising is that Gay ran the third fastest time of all time. Sprinters hit their prime at about 25, which for Bolt will be the 2012 Olympics. If the weather holds, I genuinely believe we will see him break 9 and a half seconds, which was almost unimagininable in 2000.

Just watched his 200 meter race today. Being his eighth major race of the year, the boy was tired, and still shattered the world record. I suspect beautiful things from him when he is not fatigued. His lead out of the turn was incredible and he just kept pulling away. If he wasn't exhausted, the man probably would have broken 19.5 with ease. Also, I noticed his start wasn't the best from my view.

What a let down, Jamaica didn't break the 4x100m relay world record, they just ended up with a crummy gold medal and a championship record. Bolt's on overrated mess.

So Bolt ends up again with three medals again, and he has just turned 23 meaning he should be able to carry on running for many years to come, although he has said he won't be running all three races in the future due to tiredness, which is a shame. 200m is his favourite so that could mean him missing out the 100m, which is the premiere event. Hopefully by the time 2012 comes around he has changed his mind.

Either way, it looks like the records will continue to plummet as long as he stays interested and the increasing fame doesn't go to his head. The longer he stays around the more popular athletics will get.

This is amazing to me for one reason: the Olympics ended a year ago and we're talking about TRACK AND FIELD. Think about that. This guy has us talking about running. Between he and Phelps, they're changing athletics if nothing else by just getting people talking about them. People like to say that a lot of these sports mean nothing at all in the non-Olympic years. Bolt is certainly proving that wrong. It's an amazing story to say the least as he's not just breaking records. He's shattering them. I haven't heard a single word about him being in any kind of trouble or allegations, so maybe he's what is needed. He's young, he's interesting, and it's not fair to say he's great. He's almost unhuman.
