US investigations into deaths
A US Army soldier has pleaded guilty to raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and helping murder her and her family.
James Barker agreed to the plea deal at the start of his court-martial in the US to avoid the death penalty, his civilian lawyer said.

A criminal investigation began in June into the killing of the family of four in their home in Mahmudiya, south of Baghdad, in March 2006.

Specialist Barker is one of four US soldiers charged with murder.

They are alleged to have helped a former private - who has since been discharged from the army - to plan, carry out and cover up the attack.

Two of the soldiers could face the death penalty if found guilty.

All four soldiers belong to the 2nd Brigade of the elite 101st Airborne Division

onto your second point where you say that it will bring hatred towards the army i agree with you it will have repracussions(SP) liike that becuause all of the services from the west will be tarred with the same brush.

As far as the soliders involved goes - i'd love to know how they sleep at night because peforming such a hanus crime proves two things; that they don't have a conscience and they have no morals. the Specialist who did plead guily must have a small bit of conscience though for admitting that he commited it although to be honest he shouldn't have commited the crime or been apart of it in the first place.

It really makes you think dosen't it - what is going through the mind of sick individuals like that who signed up to defend their country and then disgrace it like that. Disgusting

Everybody meet's sick individuals but you dont know it because (obviously) nobody talks about this sort of thing.

It's inevitable that you're going to get some sick people in the army. People in the army with that sort of mentallity are going to take advantage because there's less of a chance of them getting caught.

But anyway yeah, that IS fucked up. Knowing from the experience being in war is extremely hard. Never use that for an excuse of what those people did, but rape and murder is as much a part of a war as anything else is. When you have people shooting at you just about every day, you're out there living like an animal, far away from home, you're around people who hate you, taking an advantage of helpless people is the easiest yet most disgusting thing you can do. And it happens all over the place. For every case that is unvelaed there are probably dozens if not hundreds that never make it to public. If you are a 14 or 16 year old girl and a soldier rapes you, who do you tell? Other soldiers? I don't think so. Just look at the history of war. Vietnam, Africa, Korea, everywhere US/British troops have went there have been documented crimes against civilians.

Here, in the US, we don't think about that shit. We only look at something when it happens to us. 9/11, huge tragedy, 3000 people died, it happened in a middle of New York, 2 tallest buildings in the city went down, etc, etc. Without a doubt it was a big tragedy. It let to US attacking Afghanistan and Iraq pretty much. But those kind of tragedies happen all of the world just about every year. And a lot of times things that United States do is responsible for those tragedies. 150 000 people died in Iraq since the war started. We decimated their economy and any chance at normal life, and we're supposed to be saving them from Saddam?

And it is not only Iraq. Whereever US intervenes we leave a bad taste in peoples mouths and thats the main reason 9/10 of the world hates us. Soldiers raping women and killing civilians is just an icing on the cake, and that disgusts me more-so than anything else.
