Undertaker "The Phenom"... or... "The American Bad Ass"

As it appears the long reign of the legend that is The Undertaker appears to be coming to an end probably at WM28, I felt it appropriate to start this thread and ask everyone which character they thought was b

Personally, I loved both, but if I had to pick I would have to go for "The Phenom". Simply because it is the longest lasting character that The Undertaker is most recognised for and the most unique character that has ever existed in the WWE.

Be interesting to hear everyone's opinion...

The deadman/phenom Undertaker everytime.. whether that be the original wild western Undertaker or the satanic ministry Undertaker or any other take on the deadman gimmick..I much prefer this to the biker gimmick. I understand why The Undertaker changed his image for a while to stay fresh and bring another side to the table but I really see that as just a phase and when I think of The Undertaker I instantly think of the supernatural, walking dead, phenom persona. In that form he has been and always will be my favourite WWE wrestler of all time. I think he looked his best during 1996 - 1997 but also love the Ministry Undertaker phase. His promos he did back in 1996 with Mankind where phenomenal.

We've had this thread in several incarnations over the last year or so.

With that said, I have to go with the Phenom. This form of the Undertaker character is what Mark Calloway will be remembered for and rightly so. It is in this form that 'Taker is most revered throughout the wrestling world. All of his mystique, visuals, and mannerisms that go with this character just add an extra dimension to whatever storyline that he is apart of.

The word Phenom is not just a moniker or nickname for The Undertaker. He is truly a once in a lifetime superstar and a real Phenomenon.

I love both roles,The Phenom is definetly the more recognizable and legendary gimmick(what he'll be remembered for) but I still will always love the American Badass; either way Mark Calloway is a living legend and will go down as one of the greatest of all time.

Are you serious with this question? Not to be rude but its no contest. You have to go with the Undertaker as the Phenom. Unless you just started watching WWE when he was the american bad ass then came back as the Phenom.....then you can ask the question but if you watched before there is no question.

I knw everybody is going to say the phenom because it was his longest character and it was his original, but to me I never really enjoyed his phenom character at all. But his American Bad Ass character was very enjoyable to me because he was well, BAD ASS. So to me his American Bad Ass Character was my favorite. The entrence was awsome 2.

i agree with it being a no-contest. the phenom with the music and the smoke and now the flames (minus the setting ppl on fire and the johnny cash song, horrible) is so much better then him coming out to kid rock on a motorcycle/chopper/who gives a damn it was so much better when the L.O.D did it and when it wasnt happening 5 or 6 times a month.i dont hate the fact that he wanted to change it up because you have to anymore, but his gimmick has lasted since 91, which is pretty amazing.

I personally think The Undertaker in his phenom form is the most important WWE superstar of all time..including Hogan (without doubt most important superstar of all time for Pro Wrestling), Michaels, Austin, Hart and Cena.

I wonder if WCW somehow managed to sign Mark back as The Undertaker or something similar during the Monday Night Wars if they would have continued to grow in the ratings and things would have turned out differently to how they did dispite Austins popularity?

Or would they have wasted the gimmick?

I cannot consider a guy who had to get carted out of WM28 on a stretcher and has a match ever 3-9 months as "The Phenom" anymore, when he was truly "The Phenom" and could put on a match more than 3 times a year he was good.

His American Bad-ass gimmick was garbage, his theme during that gimmick was garbage. The motorcycle riding was annoying, the song was annoying, the first pumping wasn't entertaining, it just wasn't a good switch for him.

Hopefully he will soon be known as "The Undertaker-The Retired"

its well past time for him to hang up his boots. I respect what hes done for the business, but hes well past his expiration date. Hopefully WM28 is his last as a superstar

I really liked the American Badass character. It was real and believable. The aging, experienced veteran badass. Loved it.

That said, it is a no brainer that he should NOT revert back to this character. He's the Undertaker. He needs to be that supernatural creepy gravedigger. That's what he has been for most of his career, that's how he became one of the all time greats. No way he should ever go back from that.

I would go with the phenom gimmick, it just suits him, he has the look, i cant explain it but when i think undertaker, i think deadman.

It depends for me...I mean ABA Taker was awesome, I probably liked it more as a gimmick then the deadman only because Taker has died like 86968757985764967648756758 times already...>.> Even in Kayfabe there should be a limit to how played things are...
