Ultimate Rival

Dark Match Jobber
In light of Kofi Kingston beating The Miz four straight times, I was thinking I should do a post of a wrestler's ultimate rival. In Kayfabe, almost every wrestler has that opponent who has his or her number and just can’t beat. Here are a few of my examples:

Mark Henry > Randy Orton
Mark Henry was able to beat Randy Orton clean last year in back to back pay per views, and even kicked out of Orton’s RKO. Mark Henry was without a doubt the better of the two during that rivalry.

CM Punk > John Cena
Ever since the emergence of CM Punk last summer, John Cena has been unable to beat the WWE Champion. Punk’s win at Summerslam last year was questionable because Cena’s foot was on the rope; however, the bottom line is a win is a win.

Batista > Triple H
Back in 2005, Batista beat Triple H three times with one being at Wrestlemania 21 for the World Title, and twice at Backlash and Vengeance to retain the title, proving that Triple H was unable to beat his former protégé.

My question is What are some other examples of Superstars or Divas being unable to beat another Superstar or Diva, no matter how many attempts they received?

Yeah, I wouldn't say that Punk has Cena number.

Now one guy whose ass belongs to John Cena is one Chris Jericho. Jericho has only won one match against Cena and that was their first one TEN years ago. When Cena was a rookie, he beat Jericho. When Cena was new to the main event, he beat Jericho. When Cena came back from injury, guess who he beat for the title?

He said that since Punk's ascension that he's been all over Cena.

To take it old school, I'd say the Skyscrapers > The Road Warriors, as far as I remember, the Road Warriors never beat them in a proper wrestling match. Then there was Kidman > Hulk Hogan and Hulk/Hollywood Hogan vs Flair and RVD > Jerry Lynn.

Chris Benoit > Triple H
I don't think HHH ever beat Benoit.

Show > Sheamus
Show's beat Seamus by count out and by pin in both the rivalries they've had.

John Cena > Kurt Angle & Jericho
Cena own'd these two!

Well Kidman vs Hogan really only transpired in one match, its hardly a rivalry. Hogan-Flair did see Flair deliver Hogan's first pinfall loss in WCW on Monday Nitro and Flair beat him for the World Title in 99.

To me it seems this thread is about epic feuds where one guy just couldnt get the upperhand. For Hogan that would be Randy Savage, they had major runs vs each other in 86, 89, & 96 & 98 and every time Hogan prevailed, rarely losing a single match ( Savage got some count out wins on the house show circuit in 89 but lost clean in their epic encounter at WrestleMania). Hogan never had multiple runs vs any opponent without losing at least major match (Andre winning the WWE title in 88, Sting's title win at Starrcade, Piper's win at Starrcade 96, Flair's aforementioned wins). For whatever reason Savage never got one significant win in all their years of battle.

RVD > Jerry Lynn.

Jerry Lynn defeated RVD at Hardcore Heaven 2000.

Chris Benoit > Triple H

Triple H defeated Benoit at No Mercy 2000.

Undertaker has defeated Kane in every match they've been in.

Taker has also defeated Triple H in almost every match they've been in. I say "almost" because there was Elimination Chamber where Triple H pinned Taker to retain the WWE Championship, but does that even count as a proper win over Taker?

Stone Cold has had The Rock's number in pretty much every match they've been in except in their last match at Wrestlemania XIX.

The first feud that popped to mind though once I entered this thread was Raven vs. Tommy Dreamer in ECW, which has gotta be my favourite "Ultimate Rivalry" of all time. Raven had Dreamer's number for two straight years, but then Dreamer finally defeated him at WrestlePalooza 97 in a Loser Leaves ECW match and sent him packing to WCW. They've had two other matches since then, one on RAW in which Dreamer defeated him for a second time, and that was also a Loser Leaves (RAW) match, then they had what was booked as a "Final Showdown" at Hardcore Justice which Raven won.

Triple H beat Undertaker several times between 2001 and 2002

Bret Hart > Steve Austin. I don't believe Austin ever pinned The Hitman.

Bret Hart also owns Goldberg, and not many can say that. Goldberg, according to my research (and memory... memory led me to the research, you dopes), never won a match again Bret Hart. That's amazing, actually.

I was double checking this and I saw Bret Hart beat Will Sasso the actor/comedian. I don't remember this at all.

You are correct though. Goldberg never beat Bret.

If we're really gonna talk about Ultimate Rivals for The Undertaker then you have to put Shawn Michaels onto that list.

In singles action Shawn and Taker are tied at 2 wins each and 1 draw. So they're even.

If you want to add in tag matches though then Undertaker actually had Shawn's number 6 to1.

Triple H has pinned Batista before .. the Raw before Vengeance
