Trios Title?

TWJC: The Beginning

Royal Rumble Winner
With the brand split coming up, I was thinking about the titles. Instead of having 2 tag titles, or trying to finagle a way to get one set of straps across two brands, why not have one brand with a trios title?

It would be something unique to that brand, there are already plenty of trios team (New Day, Wyatts, formerly the LoN, Social Outcasts). Plus you can put together a few flyers and it's almost always a great match. Could maybe make it even more unique with lucha rules (no tags necessary, just roll out).

I would rather just have the world champion, the women's champion and the tag champions everywhere and the IC Title be the 'Raw only Championship' and the US Title be the 'smack down only championship'

Initially, I thought the idea of Trios title is asinine. But after realising that the Brand split is soon into action, it seems like quite a good idea. Like the OP said, if WWE keeps one World Champion and Women's Champion respectively, then the trios title can get more credibility.

Anyhow, WWE might need to create more stables other than just Social Outcasts. With only The New Day, The Club and Wyatt family being the stables have three members, the depth of Trios pair should be developed even more before introducing the championship.

It just seems like a title that has no real use aside from giving someone a belt to carry around. Sure, WWE could always pair up 3 wrestlers together at any given time but, again, I don't see a point other than just someone carrying around a belt. New Japan has had a 6 man tag team championship since January and has already changed hands a total of 6 times.

As for the Lucha Libre rules, I personally wouldn't be interested at all as the LL style just doesn't resonate with me. Several years back, I watched a number of episodes of AAA just to get a feel for it and to see how I'd like it and the answer was not at all. The matches were all combinations of various takes on the Hurricanrana, suicide dives, top rope spots, 6 or 8 people running around all over the place in chaos without any rhyme or reason, little to no selling or storytelling, etc. Some are into that and more power to 'em, but I'm not one of them and can't pretend to be.

Hey Oprah, not everyone needs a title. Wyatts (hurt) New day, Social jokes and then you want to kill rusev momentum and drag Del Rio and Sheamus legit heels for the world title into a 4 way dance with New Day and Jobbers.

Now it isn't the worst idea ever since Mark Henry did make out with a man, the gobbley gook and Mea young's hand baby.....But you are getting close.

Raw: World Title, IC Title, Tag Titles.
Smackdown: Women's Title, US Title.

Can you imagine the room for expanding the female story lines to actual story lines? Raid NXT for Asuka, Nia Jax and Bayley and you have good stock for multiple angles. Also, it counts as a world title.

I don't see the point in having a trios/six-man tag title, it would hurt a tag division which in past WWE Drafts has been decimated by splitting up teams for no reason and could probably happen again.

Once the split happens you will see a couple of stables on each brand anyway.

The Brand Split just needs 1 World Champ, 1 Women's Champ, 1 Tag-Team Champions defending the titles on both brands with the IC Title & US Title split respectively.

It's something that I could see the WWE doing in the future but I wouldn't like to see it, to be perfectly honest.

The New Day are one of the biggest draws in the company right now and they have managed to get people invested in them through hard work and being able to shape their own persona. The work they have done is rightly praised because they have captured lightning in a bottle. Looking back through WWE recent history, there aren't many trios who have managed to set the heather alight like they have. And with that in mind, the WWE know they should capitalise on the New Day as much as they can. As much as I disagree that it would be a good thing for the WWE, I would not put it past them at all.

But let's face it, the New Day are a one off. Who out there is going to face them? The Club? Whilst that might be fun at the beginning, that would quickly run dry soon enough. And the question would still remain whether a Trios Championship would replace a Tag Team Championship. And if it is, then the WWE should be putting that thought out of their minds. Freebird rules mean that Trios can be a part of wrestling without having to create a niche for them. The Tag Team scene in WWE is working right now and they don't have to push the boat out to keep it that way. Let the teams that are there do their thing and they will reap the benefits of it; much like they have done with the New Day's success.

I seem to remember back in the day that NWA/WCW had a six man match championship with 3 guys holding a huge trophy then 3 belts....that's an idea that should've been done years ago BUT I can't see it happening now.
Although it could be used an idea to bring more talent up to the main roster at a quicker pace

Eh, I don't like the idea. More titles is a bad idea. It takes away from the significance of the Titles WWE already presents. The man makes the title not the other way around. Not everyone can be a champion.

Bring back Teddy Long as the GM of the division while you're at it. Seriously, how hard have WWE been pushing six man tag team matches over the last few years? They've closed so many tv episodes that they've become the butt of jokes, why not make it official with a strap?

It's too many titles. It's another title to care about when the existing ones struggle enough in today's era. There have been a lot of trios over the course of the last five years: Shield, Wyatts, Ryback and two other dudes, Social Outcasts, New Day, Blake and Murphy w/Alexa, Enzo and Cass w/ Carmella, League of Nations, and I'm sure there are others.

Lucha Underground launched their trios title in an effort to be different. WWE launching their own doesn't really fit that bill. If they handled it as a way to have the guys work with the girls, it could be interesting. It would likely just become a lower card belt.

Adding titles is never the answer. They need to actually respectably book their current belts before they even begin to consider adding a belt. At least there kind of already is a division here unlike other oft requested titles (European, Hardcore, Cuiserweight, and Women's tag). The Freebird rule allows for three man taeg champs as is. They should focus on building up what they have before going full blow holla, holla, holla!
