Right, for me this is dead simple. It's between Gordito and Saboteur. But....
Gelgarin is a very good RPer but there are times where you can get away with not mentioning a match or an opponent. This wasn't one of them. I didn't think there was enough development in the character and didnt enjoy this one as much as I have others in the past. I'm not wholly convinced that the novel/diary approach works and the focus appears to be on other things. I remember a fuss about having "superhero" characters when he posted the app and I want to see how he can approach that because that makes the character different.
Doc.....I like Action Saxton, like Gelgarin, when he focusses, it is a great character to read about. When he is talking smack about guys on the roster, there's only a few who are as entertaining. But let me be clear, this wasn't an RP. It was practically a no show because there was very little substance behind it. I seriously read it, laughed and scrolled down the page to see what was coming. If he could have followed it up with a good Saxton RP, then we would be seeing a close three way I think. I'm disappointed because I dont think this was the time for it.
Gordito, I love as a character. Like the man behind him, he seems to be very chillaxed and it always comes across in his RPs. He manages to strike a very good balance between development and promo, which is something I love to see in RP's. I dont know if there are many who have found their RP niche style so quickly. This was a home run.
And then we come to Saboteur. Let me say that I dont think the RP that beat Ty was brilliant, it wasn't the best RP that he has written in his short time with us and that is saying something. I'm not convinced that the win is totally beneficial for the character because I reckon expectations have changed in the way he is written - not a dig, a big win like that is going to put some huge pressure on everyone involved. There seems to be more confidence and an ego about him whereas he had been this klutz with a massive comedic side and a split-personality that could switch so quickly, which made the character work so well IMO.
This RP went too long for me. The promo was great but the bit at the beginning seemed a little needless. It had more Saxton lines than Doc's "RP". Anyway, I have a big soft spot for Sab because of his All Star roots and I want to see more development for the character than just relying on that big win because I dont want to see the character be labelled as a one hit wonder who could never follow it up.
As we have to base it on this weeks RP, I have to give it to Gordito because I thought he managed to focus his writing tremendously.
