Just saw this article a little while ago. Now I know a lot of folks probably hate on Maven, but I wanted to know your thoughts on this. I haven't seen him in the ring since '05. He got a nice rub right after Survivor Series '04 but quickly fell back into obscurity. From what I've read he worked for Home Shopping Network for a while and worked the indy scene. Its a shame that he's now a part of the statistic of wrestlers addicted to painkillers. Perhaps he should consider reaching out to WWE's rehab program.

Anyways, if this interests you, what's your thoughts or take on all this?

It doesn't surprise me for the REASON he got arrested. When you are a top guy, it's pretty easy to get pain meds. Eminem says doctors will give you pain meds galore because they want to be known as "so-and-so's" doctor. Tomko was arrested for stealing, or trying to steal, oxycodone. It's a growing epidemic. And not just amongst wrestlers. Once you fall out of that spotlight (Maven had a little bit at the beginning), I am sure it's harder and harder to get the fix you need. The pharmacy by me was broken into. No money gone. All the pain meds were lifted.

And you're right in that he should try to go to rehab. It will continue to get worse.

This should come as no surprise to anyone that's followed the sporadic news about Maven throughout the last few years. He's a real tragic example of what can happen to a pro wrestler...injured, hooked on meds, and now trying to cheat the law anyway he can to get them. Reminds me of the Tomko story that broke last year. Here's hoping he's able to get himself straight and his life together.

I never hated Maven. I think the whole idea of the show was a tad unrealistic. They had him there for a while then they released him. He did the best he could with what he was given. It's sad that his life has taken this turn. A number of TE winners have failed to really make any headway. Jackie and Linda who won that year worked for a time then faded into obscurity, then left the business. Nowinski had suffered a concussion which put him out of wrestling, Nidia was with WWE then she was releasec and left the business. Morrison went on to some success, Miz has done quite well, so it's had very limited success at best.

Back to Maven, I hope that he gets the help he needs before he ends up dying to soon.

It's extremely sad to see former athletes go down this route. Addiction to anything can be serious, but to painkillers is really harmful.

Maven's in-ring talent was not very entertaining and he definitely needed work in developmental. It's tough to have such high expectations placed on you and to have a bunch of hard-nosed veterans nail you with stiff shots night after night. I hope Maven does well from here on in.

Maven was never one of my favorites, but it is always sad to hear these stories. I have friends that were hooked on pain killers, and its really tough watching them go through it. When it is an athlete they have much easier access to the meds, and its a shame to see them go down that road. Hope he gets the help he needs to get over this..

This sickest thing about it all is the fact that before Maven became a wrestler, he was a teacher.

However, this is a perfect example of how physically taxing this business can be on a person's body. Sure, I'm speculating a bit when I say that he probably started this pill-popping habit as a result of the pains and bumps of his pro-wrestling career but if it didn't start his addiction, it surely enhanced it. But how it turned into a scandal with him selling the pills to others is beyond me.

Just like everyone else is probably thinking, I really hope Maven finds sobriety and cleans up his act. He really seemed like a good-hearted person and I'm sure that jail-time will remind him of the person he was before all of this began.

Professional Wrestling is one of the most physically taxing activity you can ever be involved in. And that goes 10 fold when you are put on the road to work almost every single day and night. Naturally after a long night of getting body slammed by guys like the Big Show. You want a quick fix from the pain, and sometimes the ice baths and the heating pads don't work. So you head to painkillers. Sadly painkillers are highly effective, and highly addictive. And constantly working week in and week out, you need something to make it through.

It is a shame to what has happened to Maven. His addiction lead him to a life of crime. And Maven is no dumb cookie, he can do so much more than be a criminal. I hope one day he finds help and finds something he can do to keep his mind off the drugs.
