Like the guitarist thread, post your 5 favorite drummers!

1. Cozy Powell - Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck, Rainbow, solo work
2. John Bonham - Led Zeppelin
3. Ian Paice - Deep Purple, Whitesnake
4. Herman Rarebell - Scorpions
5. Vinnie Appice - Black Sabbath, Carmine Appice, Dio

All those guys are fantastic

My 3 all time favorite drummers would have to be Peter Sandoval from Morbid Angel and Neil Peart from Rush and Phil Rudd from AC/DC.

1. Alex Van Halen - The reason I picked up the sticks at age 4
2. Danny Carey - Technically one of the most sound drummers in the history of rock music
3. Dave Grohl - Consumate pro who can write amazing parts
4. Dave Lombardo - All speed metal bows to Lombardo...I'm not even a big slayer fan
5. Stewart Copeland - Many current drummers have lifted his style, from his tuning to his hi-hat patterns

5: Neil Peart.
4: Vinnie Paul.
3: John Bonham.
2: Joey Jordison.
1: Mike Portnoy.

1-Vinnie Paul(Pantera)
2-Joey Jordison(Slipknot)
3-John Bonham(Led Zepplin)
4-Nick Oshiro(Static-X)
5-Mike Wengren(Disturbed)

In No particular order.
1-Nicko McBrain-Iron Maiden
2-John Bonham- Led Zepplin
3-Brann Dailor- Mastodon. Dave Grohl has said that he is probably the best drummer in the world.
4-Dave Grohl-Nirvana and Probot. I liked his Probot stuff that was good.
5-Danny Carey-Tool- He keeps those odd time signatures going and he is bloody good anyway.

5) Brandon Richmond - Losing Focus (a friend of mine)

4) Dave Grohl - Nirvana

3) Matt Sorum - G N' R (90-97)

2) Tommy Lee - Motley Crue

1) Steven Adler - G N' R (85-90)

Hey guys how about we give some reasons so this isn't just another spam thread eh? Oh and by the way, you should all be god damn ashamed of yourselves for not mentioning Keith Moon, come ON people what is wrong with you all?! In no order...

1) John Bonham [Led Zeppelin] - Just listen to the song Moby Dick. 'Nuff said. Probably the greatest drummer of all time, could go twenty minutes just beating the hell out of the skins without stopping for even a milisecond.

2) Keith Moon [The Who] - Jesus what can be said about the man? The biggest partier in the history of music probably, he would be loaded out of his mind on every drug known to mankind and still play the drums better then anyone else. Used to beat those skins so hard they'd break into pieces.

3) Neil Peart [Rush] - Come on, who else could get away with a twenty one piece drum set? If I didn't already love Rush, this man would make me. Took what Bonham and Moon started and took it to a whole new level in the progressive rock genre. Stunning. Amazing.

4) Dave Grohl [Nirvana/Probot] - If all you know of Grohl is from the Foo Fighers, damn shame on you. His drumming in Nirvana from 91-94 was stunning, guy hit the drums harder then anyone else of his generation. Just listen to the intro to the song "Territorial Pissings" by Nirvana and you'll see what I mean. I didn't think human hands could even move that fast.

5) Dennis Chambers [Santana, Steely Dan, Parliament, Funkadelic] - So criminally underrated it's disgusting. Go watch his drumming during Santana's performance at Woodstock in '69. Guy virtually invents the modern drum solo. Stunning and amazing, this is what made me get a drum kit and start playing music when I was introduced to his stuff at the age of seven by my father. Just freakin' amazing.

Once again I'm sorely disappointed by some people's picks, just like in the guitarist thread.

I mean first of all the guy before me just names his buddy who's a drummer from some band no one's ever heard of. I won't judge him cause I haven't heard him but come the fuck on, top five of all time? I mean the drummers from Slipknot? Static-X? Why are most wrestling fans also fans of horrible horrible nu-metal? Sorry if I offend anyone but it needed to be said.

Xfear have you heard Brann Dailor's drumming, it is bloody brilliant. Dave Grohl calls him the Best Drummer in the World today. So if that is not high Praise than I don't know what is.

I have frgotten one of the Best drummers of the 80's if not one of the craziest, His name is TOMMY 'fuckin' LEE, I mean look at the stuff he put down for Motley Crue. He's a fickin madman on stage, he set up a rollercoaster type thing on the last Motley Crue tour and was playing the drums on it, he made drumming upside down what it is.

I also forgot Phil Collins, one of the great drummers of the Prog rock era. I just can't beleive I forgot him as well.

Tommy was an awesome drummer, especially in Crue's early days when he didn't shy away from the double bass (Live Wire is still my favorite Crue song to this day). That's not to say that I wasn't happy when Samantha Maloney replaced him on tour. Mostly because I'm very turned on by a woman who can play drums better than me by a factor of two. Man, that's hot.

And what drumming list would be complete without Philsy himself? I mean, come on, man. You'd have to be crazy not to appreciate "In The Air Tonight." Scratch that. Insane, not to appreciate it. My personal favorite drumming he ever did was on the Phillip Bailey track "Easy Lover." Perfect grooving and his kit sounded like magic. Plus, his fills were perfect for the song. I dream of being able to write parts like that.

In no particular order:

~John Bonham - Led Zeppelin

~Dave Mackintosh - DragonForce

~Steven Drozd - The Flaming Lips

~Mitch Mitchell - The Jimi Hendrix Experience

~Keith Moon - The Who

~Richard Starkley AKA "Ringo Starr"- The Beatles (Why the HELL hasn't he been listed yet!?)

~Nick Mason - Pink Floyd

~Derrick Frost - Chiodos

~Bill Ward - Black Sabbath

~Flo Mounier - Cryptopsy

~Alex Hernandez - Immolation

~Lars Ulrich - Metallica

I have many, MANY drummers that I like. It's hard to pick favorites out of any of them, so I just listed the above as examples of my areas of taste.

~Richard Starkley AKA "Ringo Starr"- The Beatles (Why the HELL hasn't he been listed yet!?)

Because he was the second best Drummer in the Beatles during their heyday. Until Keith Moon Drummers just kept time and didn't do anything fancy really. Ringo fell into the basic timekeeper catagory, this is just going off what I can remeber from a course I took on popular music.

I was perusing youtube again today (like always when I get a free second) and I once again viewed Metallica with Dave Lombardo subbing in for a rendition of Battery. It really solidified just how much they should fire Lars and get a real drummer. If not Lombardo, then go get Jimmy DeGrasso. Whatever the case, every time I view this video (or Some Kind of Monster) it just screams how inept Lars is as a drummer. He's like the Meg White of metal.

Dave Grohl - Nirvana
Lars Ulrich - Metallica
John Bonham - Led Zeppelin
Patty Scheml - Hole
Keith Moon - The Who

Okay...I realize the person above me was banned and can not comment back....but did this person REALLY just put the fucking drummer from Hole in their top 5?

Wow. I have officially lost all hope in mankind.

Hole = Worst Music On Earth.

Hole shouldnt even count as a band...

After realising how stupid i was by posting...
1. Cozy Powell - Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck, Rainbow, solo work
2. John Bonham - Led Zeppelin
3. Ian Paice - Deep Purple, Whitesnake
4. Herman Rarebell - Scorpions
5. Vinnie Appice - Black Sabbath, Carmine Appice, Dio

I threw up.

Revised=

1. Cozy Powell
2. John Bonham
3. Neil F'n Peart
4. Carmine Appice
5. Pete York

i only have one. i dont know his name, but he's in that band Crossfade

my top five drummers are the following

5.Ansley Dunbar(Journey/Whitesnake) he was a great drummer who started with Journey when they first began before steve perry and made their albums sound great he also played Drums on Whitesnakes Self Titled 1987 release Whitesnake.

4.John Bonham(Led Zepplin). He is fucking John Bonham what more can I say he was the sticks man for probably the greatest hard rock band of all time

3.Rick Allen(Def Leppard) He is truly amazing he was great on Def Leppards first three albums then a horrific accident cost him his left arm and many thought with good reason that he would never drum again but he proved the world wrong when not only did he come back to do the drums on Hysteia but still drums to this day and his works has only gotten better over the years.

2.Ticco Torres(Bon Jovi) he gets my number two vote cause I have met this guy personally several times and he is the consumate professional rock musician he doesnt have a ego he appreciated everyone of his fans and his drumming is fantastic just listen to his work on Bon Jovi's New Jersey album for proof.

1. Tommy Lee(Motley Crue) Now he gets my number one vote even though im not the big on the Crue or Tommy Lee as a person but I think he is the best cause he is the only guy ive seen drum that can do it as fast as he can do it with as much skill but when you look at him doing it it looks like he is barely breaking a sweat like its no problem whatsoever. that amazes me
