Tony Schiavone in TNA?

Dark Match Jobber
Well i thought he hadnt worked in pro wrestling (atleast none of the major companied) since wcw went out of business in 2001, but then i cae across this video clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtg-HSJT7b4

now i get most of my info from wikipedia, but it doesnt list him ever working for or appearing on tna ever. So i was wondering does tony work for tna now, because it seems like russo gives him a job at the end of that video, and what exactly has Tony been up to after wcw?

I know Tony worked briefly in TNA during their PPV Show days during the whole Sports Entertainment Xtreme stable.

From what I understand...he works in Atlanta at some Sportstalk station and does some Atlanta Braves post game show for their radio affiliate down there.

That clip is many years old. I think this was when TNA was doing PPV only shows on Wednesday Night. As for Tony, he works as an announcer already and I know that TNA Wrestling is more than happy with the work of Tenay and Tazz. Tony Schiavone honestly represents the bad of WCW. It wouldn't be bad if Don West did 1 night a week and Tazz the other but I dont want to see Schiavone doing 1 show and Tenay the other.

Tony Schiavone would be a better addition to TNA than Mike Tenay. Although Schiavone certainly isn't my favorite announcer, he is better than Tenay, as far as I'm concerned.

The problem is that they will probably stick Taz on their new show to go up head to head with Raw, because he is a familiar face to fans. In reality, I always have thought that he was a very mediocre commentator/analyst.

If TNA is smart, they will put together another Face/Heel broadcast team for their new show to go up against WWE. It pretty much is accepted that this type of team as opposed to the PlayByPlay/Analyst combination is far more entertaining and inclined to keep viewers entertained.

What would be huge is if TNA could manage to get Jesse The Body Ventura as a color commentator. I don't think he is really doing all that much, these days. But he would be an absolute blast. Second greatest Color Commentator of all time.

I think both shows should have different announcers I enjoyed Tony Schiavone , Bobby "The Brain" Hennen, and Larry Zybysko n wcw I would like Tony Schiavone n Don west ( as a heel announcer) to do one night per week also Jim Ross contract is expiring and wwe hasn't given him a new contract maybe tna can try to get him to come

With word of a new show coming to monday nights let's have some fun with this.. Who would you want to be the voice of Monday and voice of Thursday.. I would like to see Taz and Jeremy Borash as monday night announce team.. I feel like they would be very entertaining for us to listen to.. I beliueve tenay is good but shouldn't be on the show against Raw.. He should move to thursdays and have a new announcer as his partner.. Not a WCW reject cause they need to start creating new people on their own.. Maybe turn a useless old wrestler into one.. Like Foley or Kip or someone like that.. You catch my drift lol... What you all think? No shaviani or whatever his name is lol

It's not going to happen guys. Tony has made it perfectly clear that he's always wanted to be a baseball announcer, and he's doing that right now. Last time I checked he had zero interest in returning the wrestling business, and he'll tell anyone who asks him that the same exact thing.

But I'd love to see him return, Tony was a great play by play man, he'd make a worthy addition to any wrestling promotion.

I'd love to see Tony Schiavone in TNA for one thing - a hardcore match versus Mick Foley. That'd really put butts in the seats.

If Vince hired Tony Schiavone for the WWE, he would be the WWE's second best announcer. I like him a lot better then Tenay. He is a better talker than Tenay too. Just not the best guy to be shown on camera.

Yeah, Schiavone is working for WDUN out of Gainsville, GA and serves as the pbp announcer for the Gwinnett Braves. Plus he does work with the Georgia Bulldog radio network. He's pretty busy at the moment, although I always enjoyed his work in WCW. Having heard his sports talk work down here in GA, I'd say he is much better at that then wrestling. And that says a lot.

yeah I watch WWE on demand alot, and as I watch some of these old matches, I realised what a great voice Tony Schiavone really was...I think he should be in the Hall of Fame and in my opinion he's every bit as good as JR...I think some of the "character" stuff WCW had him doing was rediculous, but the guy called some of history's greatest matches

Hell, need a color guy... bring in Raven. The man is great on the mic, did a good job on Heat when he was there, and he knows TNA. I always thought he could be a great manager again, with a bit of wrestling thrown in. Tenay and Tazz on one show and Borash and Raven on the other

Schiavone was always my favorite announcer, and as soon as you could hear his voice, you just KNEW what product was aired on television, and that's what it's all about. I loved Tony Schiavone as a play by play announcer and aside from maybe JR, his voice made an industry, the industry being WCW. Schiavone WAS the voice of WCW. Tenay was a nice follow up and wing man, but Tenay doesn't do it for me on lead commentary. He comes off as a dork sometimes and needs someone like a Schiavone to push him with flow. Don West was just a maniac and my ears bled everytime I watched the TNA program. Taz is okay, but they need a distinctive voice.

Even though Schiavone is said to be done with the wrestling business, he'd be my first choice for any commentary job in wrestling.

I don't know about Schiavone as being a GREAT announcer, but, he was one of the better ones throughout time. Early Schiavone wasn't bad at all, but, if you watch the final 3 years of Nitro, you could tell that he totally checked out and was just going through the motions to the point where it was almost distracting. I doubt that he would bring any passion to TNA if he were brought back.

But as it was mentioned, when you heard him, you knew it was WCW/NWA you had on the TV. And that works against him... because he's "too" WCW. If TNA wants to establish it's own idendity, having THE voice of another promotion wouldn't behoove TNA.

But, if TNA is going to recruit former WCW announcers who actually were good and have a passion for the business who, in the same breath, didn't really have that WCW identity stamped on their forehead, I would suggest Scott Hudson. I would think Hudson would be great for any new TNA project (eg. Monday show) down the pike.

The only thing about Hudson that would work against him, his voice isn't all that unique and he doesn't stand out. JR, Schiavone and even Tenay all have unique voices that stand out and you know who they are the instant you hear them. Hudson's though, doesn't. But, that's just a minor thing.

I always liked Tony Schiavone, but bringing him in I'm afraid would only perpetuate the idea that some have that TNA is WCW 2.0.

I like what they're doing with Tenay and Taz right now, and I like the chemistry they have with just two commentators. To be honest, one of the things that bugged me about WCW was the fact they had three guys on the mic at a time. IMO all they needed was Heenan and one of Tenay or Schiavone.

TNA IS WCW 2.0. No doubt about it! Especially with Hogan coming in and having all that stroke in the company. I wouldn't be surprised if Hogan & Bischoff now own half the thing. As far as Schiavone goes I say bring him back. With TNA Monday Nitro ready to hit the airwaves soon there isn't a more entertaining announcer in wrestling than good ole Tony to lead TNA's funeral procession. :)
