To Rock/Metal fans

Fucking Hostile
I need some help, I'm going to a festival soon and I need help deciding on what band since there are a considerable amount of clashes. If you have seen any of these bands live before could you tell me if they were worth seeing or just tell me who you would see if you ere in my shoes.

So the clashes are

Rise To Remain/Social Distortion
Monster Magnet/Murderdolls
Slash/Slayer
Melvins/One Day As A Lion
High On Fire/Bullet For My Valentine
Queens Of The Stone Age/Rob Zombie/Coheed and Cambria
Dimmu Bogir/30 Seconds To Mars/Gang Of Four

Bold indicates the band I am leaning towards seeing, if there is no bold I am completely undecided. So yeah, any advice on who to see would be much appreciated.

I see you're going to SoundWave, did you go to the last one?

I would choose..

Rise To Remain/Social Distortion - SD
Monster Magnet/Murderdolls - Murderdolls
Slash/Slayer - Slash
Melvins/One Day As A Lion - Neither
High On Fire/Bullet For My Valentine - Bullet
Queens Of The Stone Age/Rob Zombie/Coheed and Cambria - Neither
Dimmu Bogir/30 Seconds To Mars/Gang Of Four - 30 Seconds.

Thats just me though.

If I remember correctly from the time tables I saw online, you should just stay at stage 1 and 2 all day and try to get in the middle of the front between 1 and 2 so you can see both main stages at either side. Although that's just based on my picks and what I'd do.

Yeah I did go to the last one, it was awesome Anvil were the highlight of the day for me and I even got to meet them at the signing tent, did you go?.

As for staying at stage one and two that wont be happening, I'll most likely be at stage four the majority of the day, only leaving for Slash (probably), Primus, Stone Sour and Maiden.

Yeah I went to it. 2010 that is.

I got to meet Escape the Fate, my faveourite band and I managed to push my way to the front for their set so it was pretty much up there was one of the greatest days of my life. To meet your favourite band, get a shirt signed and get front row? Awesome day.

Paramore were really shit that day.

I'm not going to this one though, the only bands I wanted to see would be Bullet and 30STM and originally Avenged before they pulled out so I wasn't going to pay 150 for 2 bands that I don't consider my favourites.

Rise To Remain/Social Distortion
Monster Magnet/Murderdolls
Slash/Slayer
Melvins/One Day As A Lion
High On Fire/Bullet For My Valentine
Queens Of The Stone Age/Rob Zombie/Coheed and Cambria
Dimmu Bogir/30 Seconds To Mars/Gang Of Four

The Ones I bolded. I have either seen or know their music is epic.

I can't help with all of them, but i'll try:

Rise To Remain/Social Distortion

I actually turned up to a Korn concert a couple of months ago, and walked straight back out when i realised that Rise To Remain were the support band, and came back after they'd finished. On the flipside though, i've never sat and listened to Social Distortion, but they'd still by choice of the two.

Monster Magnet/Murderdolls

I've seen Monster Magnet before and have to say, they didn't do a great deal to keep the audience engrossed. It was a festival show, not one of their own, so i guess they were kinda half arsing it. I can't actually remember if i ever saw the Murderdolls before. If i did it would have been waaaaayyyy back when they released 'VotMD', but i DO know i've seen Wednesday 13 before as well as Joey Jordison in many different scenarios, and both gave amazing performances, so the two combined should equal similar results i'd have thought. The 'Dolls get this one.

Slash/Slayer

I can't stand Slash, but if you've seen one Slayer show, you've seen them ALL, literally watch any Slayer set and you've more or less seen every show they've done since Kerry King shaved his head. Unless you love, love, love, LOVE Slayer with a fiery passion, you'll find them to be boring as fuck on stage. I guess i'd pick Slash purely to say I've seen him perform, but i wouldn't expect to enjoy it, but that's just me.

Melvins/One Day As A Lion

I've never heard of either of these bands, sorry.

High On Fire/Bullet For My Valentine

BFMV are good as long as you're not stood too far back and the sound crew don't keep fucking with their levels throughout the set, which is what happened when i saw them last. I wouldn't waste my time even contemplating watching HOF.

Queens Of The Stone Age/Rob Zombie/Coheed and Cambria

Zombie without a seconds hesitation. I'm not massivley into C&C, and while QoTSA are amazing, you'll probably get a better stage show out of Zombie, plus his most recent album is stunning and he'll probably do some White Zombie stuff too, but which ever you choose out of Zombie and QoTSA, make sure to go see the other band do their own tour when you get the chance.

Dimmu Bogir/30 Seconds To Mars/Gang Of Four

Lol, you've picked the Black Metal band over those two? Fair play mate. I'd say only go and see DB if you're a big fan and you know their tunes well. Black metal bands don't tend to do huge stage shows unless they're Immortal or Cradle of Filth. Once the corpse paint and giant spikes are on, that's about as far as they're willing to take it normally. I've never seen DB, but based on seeing Arch Enemy, Satyricon and a few other Black Metal bands, i think you'll get a more energetic show out of the other two bands.

When i saw Satyricon, i was about the only person in my section who knew any of the songs, and everyone kind of just stood motionless and watched them do their thing, with a look of confusion on their faces, so while i fuckin' hate 30STM and never heard of Gang of Four, i'd still say don't watch DB unless you're a BIG fan of theirs and you've always wanted to see them.

I can only help you with three choices brownstone:

Slash/Slayer: Slash wins,I like Slayer but if you want to look a SHOW well Slash is going to give you that. Slayer is exactly live or in studio.

High On Fire/Bullet For My Valentine:

Personal choice man, BFMV. They don't deliver an awesome live show, it's good but they are better live.

Dimmu Bogir/30 Seconds To Mars/Gang Of Four:

I'm not really familiar with the other tow, yet 30STM are amazing live. I used to hate that band until I saw them live, they do know how to give a great spectalce, plus the crows gets really into it. There is a lot of interaction betwee 30STM and the audience wich I think is cool.

dude thats so sad having to choose between Melvins, and One Day as a Lion.

I personally would choose One Day as a Lion because I am a Mars Volta mark and Jon Theodore is an incredible drummer. But for someone else Id reccomend Melvins, by far the best band in that line up. Unless you are a Rage or Mars Volta fan, then One Day as a Lion is a winner

I would also reccomend Queens of the Stone Age, or Coheed and Cambria over Rob Zombie, but again thats just what I would choose and shouldnt have bearing on what you do.

Rise To Remain/Social Distortion - Rise To Remain
Monster Magnet/Murderdolls - Murderdolls
Slash/Slayer - Slash
Melvins/One Day As A Lion - Neither
High On Fire/Bullet For My Valentine - Bullet
Queens Of The Stone Age/Rob Zombie/Coheed and Cambria - Hardest one for me, 'cos I like all 3, but live, I'd have to say Queens Of The Stone Age
Dimmu Bogir/30 Seconds To Mars/Gang Of Four - 30 Seconds.

Social Distortion
Slayer'
Dont Know Either
High on Fire
Zombie
Dimmu Borgir

High on Fire is really good live and Rob Zombie always puts on an extravagant show. The rest are just my personal tastes. Don't go in the Pit if you choose Slayer. I am a regular in Pits and I got my ass kicked at a Slayer concert (expect Skinheads and my concert had a guy that looked like the Undertaker)there no joke.
