This is a first round match in the TNA Region, Edmonton Subregion. It is a standard one on one match held under TNA Rules. It will be held at Rexhall Place, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

This is an interesting match and one that should have gotten a lot more interest from people. As if often the case when some of the middle seeds get together this could really go either way. But I think that I am going to go for DDP at the end of the day. Now, don't get me wrong, I adore Goldust. His longevity and his courage has been heroic at times, especially before the turn of the century. And he has always been a solid worker. But he never really found the big time. He was never really the main event guy that he wanted to. He falls into the bracket of being better in the ring than his father but a poorer talker, and being worse in the ring than his brother and a better talker. A real shame because his gimmick was so unique.

But DDP was the guy who did it all. Feud of the year winner with Randy Savage, a main stay on the PWI list, a constant Champion in WCW, the guy is actually a bit of a legend. A triple crown winner in WCW, he should move forward here.

Agreed with Dave, I think DDP wins on accomplishment alone, but in terms of superstar impact, I think Goldust was a far more memorable character than DDP.

DDP played the underdog for most of his run in WCW. The old guy showing he can run with the young dogs. The gimmick worked and people related to it.

Goldust was just so unique. The perfect attitude era gimmick. Edgy, erotic, at times classless, managed by a chesty vixen, and he could work with anyone from the top to the bottom of the card.

Goldust for overall impact and staying power.

With the possible exception of The Undertaker, has anyone ever done better with a character so abjectly shit as Goldust? Goldust basically came in to play on the homophobia of wrestling fans in the 90s, and yet here we are 20 years and he's managed to evolve that character to a point that there's two of them. Page's career is more impressive on paper, but I don't think there's much dispute that Dustin Rhodes has managed to polish multiple turds for a long time and remained good. For me, it's got to be him.

It's been twenty-four hours since I've started liking WCW and Diamond Dallas Page is a big reason why. He looks like a crazy hillbilly or, at best, a porn star - but since when has that been a knock against anyone in professional wrestling? He overcame age and injury and did one thing that Goldust never did: win a proper world title. Alright, so it was the same one David Arquette and Vince Russo held, but still.

Goldust is one of my favourite wrestlers. I mean, yeah, he was basically there for Jerry Lawler to call a ****** and then for Ahmed Johnson to get disproportionately angry about a consensual kiss - but that Bluedust feud. That feud with Val Venis. Those dozens of great moments hidden in the mists of time. Not to mention he has the greatest wrestling theme song ever.

On preference, I'd give Goldust the edge. In terms of significance, it's a toss-up, but I'd give Page the nod.

Page was an absurdly advanced-age rookie, who was given basically a nothing gimmick and became wrestling's hottest act(or top 5) during its hottest period since the 80s boom.


I would not fault anyone for going with Goldust, as he did a wonderful job with a character that would have spelt certain doom to pretty much anyone else.


Tough draw, but DDP's highest highs were much higher than Goldust.

I think a lot of us are in the same boat here. We prefer Goldust. He's a better worker. He's as good a talker. He's probably a better pro wrestler. Unfortunately, you ask me to clarify when prime Goldy was, I'm struggling. He never really got high up the card.. ever. He's pretty much the prototype career-midcarder. One of the best ever. but he doesn't even have that brief run in the main event that Christian had to fall back on.

DDP was almost always main eventing. Not only that, a 3 time champion during a peak WCW. Look at the names he won his titles against - Hogan, Sting, Flair.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I love Goldust. Hell, last year, in this very tournament, I tried to argue why he should go over the Ultimate Warrior. I was wrong, but I love Goldust that much.(I also hated Ultimate Warrior that much, RIP) I think its already been said but I'm going to say it again. Barring the Undertaker, there is no other character so absurd but yet so successful and over as Goldust. What he's been able to do is nothing short of amazing. Goldust started as a card pushing sexual deviant, went to a hilarious sexual deviant when partnered with Booker T, and he has legit become a well respected legend. Also, he's damn good in the ring and on the mic. Nobody thought that when he came back and first partnered with Cody that he'd be has good in the ring as he is but they were putting on some of the best matches on the card at on time. I just love Goldust and he should get more appreciation from the WWE.

With all of that said, DDP was probably the 4th biggest star during WCW's most popular period(Sting, Hogan, Goldberg, DDP). He held the WCW title and was even one of the main antagonists of Ready to Rumble. He's definitely had a more successful career than Goldy. Albeit brief, however, more successful. So going by that and staying true to how I like to vote in this tournament, I have to vote for DDP!

Have to go with DDP, DDP was at one point the top in WCW, and no matter how much I love Goldust, Goldust's character, his longetivity, and some very good matches over his career. I just have to go with DDP as he had bigger success, and I would say is a better wrestler in my opinion. And I honestly believe if it wasn't for backstage politics, could have easily been a top star in the WWE. I wouldn't mind seeing Goldust win it, but I believe he (and like everyone else faces DDP) would fall to the Diamond Cutter.

Poor Goldust.

We know that his big main event push in '96 where he was supposed to feud with HBK was kiboshed due to spurious reasons. Who knows how his career could've gone without this.

Aside from this, he has had intense longevity due to being a distinct character and a good hand in the ring proven over and over again.

DDP on the other hand, was a bit of a prodigy whe he came around. As a relative rookie, he credited as being the guy that possibly dragged the best long match out of Goldberg that ever there was. That is seriously impressive. His finisher was killer. His look was killer. His theme was killer.

I still lean to Goldust because I feel that despite having to contend with so much, he's achieved a great deal and continues to and should've, not could've, achieved more against his own will. Goldust for me.
