Pre-Show Stalwart
So I am going to assume that every here read the story about TNA open tryouts. I read a few things, one is listed below and another I read said there was a $250 tryout fee.

"TNA's Talent Director Terry Taylor will be holding a seminar on Saturday, September 29 from 1pm - 4pm at Slamtech Wrestling University in Pawtucket, RI. The cost of the seminar is $100, but $75 if you pay before Saturday. Since TNA is now 2 hours, it will give some newcomers an opportunity to shine in the national spotlight. Now's the time to get in front of one of TNA's decision-makers."

What do you think about this? Personally, I think this is a terrible idea. There are tons of guys that TNA could bring in that would be great. This will let local guys tryout yes, but odds are that no one is going to get signed -- and they probably shouldn't. I really doubt they'll be getting guys who can compete with Angle, AJ, Daniels etc... Also, I don't like the fee that you have to pay. It looks like they are letting ANYONE over the age of 18 show up and get in the ring as long as they pay them?

What's the point here? They are not going to make $100k on this or anything. It's just taking guys money and they will probably get nothing in return other than "I tried out for TNA" though it'll be in a gym in RI. PR stunt?

Thoughts...

From what I remember hearing, the actual tryouts are a full match and you have to have credentials. For someone like me, beating around the indies is fine, but a chance to get to TNA is incredible and worth the $250 bucks. Will I get signed? Maybe, maybe not....focusing on the maybe not here...but hey, its worth a shot. You never know who might be impressed by what.

BTW - Been doing this long enough to know what to do and how to do it. Remember...WCW signed AJ from the indies....chris sabin was signed from the indies...its not really that it isn't possible...

Well the one VERY important thing to remember here is that guys like The Hardys and Shane Helms all have backyard wrestling backgrounds and are now on the national plain. It's not just about indy guys, but it's also about guys getting their chance to come from nowhere and be something. if nothing else, it will get these guys and eye from an indy promotion or two and they might be able to go there if not signed byTNA. It also give them a chance to start making homegrown talent and eventually start some developmental territories somewhere and gain long term momentum that way.

Keep in mind that TNA is not focusing on their INDY Talent all that much. Even if it was a chance to shine, I say go for it, but please don't get your hopes up as TNA seems to have a totally diiferent vision and I personally think they are doing this for extra money for Matt Morgan...lol

i don think its as bad as people are making it out to be. Mass tryouts are common and a Fee is common, because these tryouts arent for random wannabes (although it seems like they can apply if they want to).

This kind of thing is more for wrestlers that have been pro for about a year or two and are on the verge of moving on up to one of the bigger indys (ROH,CZW,PWG, IWA:MS etc) and before they do and get snapped up,TNA are trying to cut out the middle man and make a star from scratch.

I hope they can find some fresh, enthusiastic wrestlers and create new stars to focus on.
