TNA On The Hunt For Edge?

Several sources have stated that WWE Hall of Famer Edge’s contract with the company is set to expire on May 1st. This would leave him free to go anywhere he would like.

Edge’s in ring career is over, but considering that he was the centerpiece of their 2012 Hall of Fame ceremony just last month, and that WWE keeps other non-wrestling members under a contract (like Shawn Michaels), many felt that Edge could have filled a similar role, especially in Canada.

Edge has been under contract to WWE since 1997. At this time, Edge is currently set for another season of SyFy’s series Haven. His WWE Films project, Bending the Rules, was recently released on DVD and the WrestleMania 28 DVD, with his Hall of Fame appearance, will be released one week after his contract expires.

The feeling is that TNA would be interested in him, especially since he has a close friendship with Hulk Hogan.

During his time with WWE, Edge won the WWE, World, IC, US and Tag Team Titles. He also won the King of the Ring, the Royal Rumble and the first Money in the Bank.

I highly doubt it would happen, as Edge has a long-standing friendship with lot's of WWE employees and he also has TV deals. He'd probably focus more on that than any chance at joining TNA.

But this is just mere speculation, so let's just roll with it. What role would he take if he by some chance actually decided to head to TNA? My pick would be commentary. The man has a smooth voice and he's always been a quick thinker on the mic. That can transition very easily into commentary. Taz hasn't been in TNA that long, Tenay has been on the seat since day one. At this point, I feel a shake up on that table is in order and if TNA actually were to nab Edge, he'd be a perfect fit there.

... Hasn't Taz been there since the Main Event Mafia days? Like ... 2008?

Anyway, I can't imagine he'd jump to TNA, even if he's Hogan's friend. Edge is smart enough to know not to burn bridges with the WWE like this, and he's not likely to get paid enough to compensate it.

But we're speculating as you said. So a commentary deal could be a good set up, or as a manager for a stable. He's a great mic-worker and he'd do wonders for commentary (especially with his ties to a few of the TNA main eventers helping his insights into feuds).

When the quote reads "the feeling is that TNA would be interested in him, especially since he has a close friendship with Hulk Hogan", I find it hard to believe there is actually any evidence to support this rumor, but for the sake of this thread I'll play along...

Edge is retired. He cannot compete in the ring, for any reason, due to major injuries that forced him into early retirement in the first place, so fact is he can't be of any value to TNA in that aspect, as even Flair and Hogan, two men who were essentially retired themselves, still stepped between the ropes for a match or two for the company. He's too young to have that big of a grip on the industry to the point he'd likely be that valuable in a Jim Ross kind of way (though that's arguable), so what's left? Creative? Manager? Commentator? Honestly, I'm not sure if any are truly viable options.

Part of me is intrigued by the idea of him as a commentator, but at the same time I'd think that the real push behind this (if it is in fact a rumor based in reality and not just false journalism designed to drive clicks) is simply to spite WWE by capitalizing on his face/name recognition simply being associated with TNA in some kind of visual capacity.

Edge doesn't have a close friendship with Hulk Hogan, Hulk like bashed Edge when he retired, saying he shouldn't retire cause he is injured, he should wrestler to his body is crippled like Hulk. Edge an't going to sign with TNA, not a chance in hell, he don't need the money, and if they try, it would take some really outrageous amount of money for, Edge to do anything with TNA.

wow if edge did sign with TNA i really have no idea what role he could play!! Commentator probably be the best Tenay and Taz both suck so i guess he could be a one man commentator. That probably be the most likely scenario. Manager i dont think so he is too young only what 38 or so. Backstage i dont think he likes or wants to play politics so thats out!! But if he did sign with TNA commentator be the most likely IMO

Only his talent part of it is just like Joey Styles and Jim Ross had before the now have Legends Contract. Adam Copeland probably already has a Legends Contract while I'm typing this. Adam won't go to TNA sorry about your damn fantasy.

You're Adam Copeland. You can work with the WWE in almost any capacity you choose, or, could go home and rail your wife on a big fat pile of money. Or, you could go work for TNA/IW, which has not exactly been the model of corporate stability during its existence.

Seriously. Is TNA/IW going to drop huge money to get Adam Copeland to come onto the announce team? Is Adam Copeland the kind of guy you can pay big money and have him singlehandedly turn around your promotion, even without wrestling? Would Adam Copeland have any interest in working for TNA/IW to begin with?

I know it's fashionable to take every wrestler that leaves the WWE and ask "so, is he coming to TNA/IW?" This is a step too far.

This is pie in the sky bullshit nonsense.

A - What would TNA want with Edge? He can't wrestle, would command a massive price tag, has no previous connection with TNA and is unproven in any kind of non-wrestling role.

B - What would Edge want with TNA? As I said, he has no previous connection with them, and I would assume that WWE is more than willing to keep him on the books (Legends Contract?) out of goodwill, on a very easy schedule of public appearances and suchlike.

Anyway, with Mama Carter controlling the pruse strings, TNA are now past scooping up every bit of available big name talent 'just because'.

Now, that said, as a total pipe dream, it would be cool. Tenay and Taz suck. How about Borash and Edge?

I see no reason for TNA to sign Edge unless it was in the vain hope that his appearances in Haven or career in the WWE would get some fans of the series to tune into Impact Wrestling. It's common knowledge that, bar Kurt Angle spiking TNA's PPV when he first arrived, former WWE wrestlers don't increase ratings, whilst the fans of a tv series on SyFy probably wouldn't stick around for long anyway.

The only reason I can see for Edge in TNA is if the WWE doesn't renew his contract on a Legends basis and he wants to earn some more money from the industry. TNA has no use for signing Edge except to pour yet more money down the drain on wrestling personalities who can no longer wrestle. Personally, if TNA wanted a retired wrestler to work an on screeen non-wrestling role they should have kept Desmond Wolfe around.

Yeah, this is just made up bullshit. Edge can't wrestle again, he'd be useless for TNA. There's no interest in him. Just thrown out there to get a rise out of people. Let's see who's stupid enough to buy into it.......

I really wouldn't see the point of Edge going to TNA nor see a reason why he would want to go there. The man can't Wrestle anymore because of his neck & was forced to retire. Plus he's already cemented himself in the WWE Hall Of Fame and I doubt he would want to burn any bridges with WWE.

how would they use Edge though? outside of the ring, he would need to be in some sort of a power role like Hogan has but having both of them would be a waste of money and talent. He would get them a big pop the first night but without him being in the ring, he wouldn't be able to add much right now. as an active wrestler, even if he only did a match a month, he would attract attention but with him not being able to wrestle, he is limited. One interesting role could be some sort of manager for Christian. Obviously Christian wouldn't need a manager but it would give something for Edge to do.

It's funny ppl say how Edge can't wrestle and retired do to injuries when he had these same injuries when he wrestled at WM last year. He was able to compete then, oh wait I guess because it was WM. WTH ever. The guy can go if he wanted to. But far as Tits and Asses, I just don't see it in any capacity. He can make more money in Hollyweird, or going back to WWE he can be a commentator there. Replace Booker or the other guy.

Apparently if he wrestles too many more matches, or takes another big bump, he could end up paralyzed form the neck down. The man has lingering neck and back pain. While he could potentially wrestle again, it would most likely be his last match, and he would be in terrible physical condition for the rest of his life.

What did I just say? He.......has........a........BROKEN.........Neck. If he takes one more serious bump he could be paralyzed for the rest of his life. Thats why he stepped away before he ended up in a wheelchair. Understand now? Damn people are stupid sometimes.

I'm going to say it quite simple and straight

They probably can't afford him & don't have the level of exposure to tempt him over at a lower rate & I don't think he has a personal interest in TNA

It has been learned that TNA is interested in bringing in Godzilla, Charles Barkley, Lou Thesz, the aliens from Independence Day, Millard Fillmore and the entire nation of Belize. Backstage rumors state that Mr. Anderson has seen all of them at least twice each. It is believed that there is enough interest to keep an eye on these reports.

That report right there is about as valuable as the possibility of TNA bringing in Edge. If Edge wanted to be on TV again, he'd be on Raw this coming Monday. WWE has better exposure, more money, more fans, a better promotional team and almost every imaginable advantage over TNA. Also as it's already been clearly established, Edge can't wrestle anymore so why bring him in? So they can say "hey, here's a guy you've heard of before whose name we can't say because we'll get sued?" There may have been a feeler from TNA to Edge, but that certainly doesn't mean he's interested in going to Orlando.

And even if that feeler were sent to him (which I still highly doubt), it's ultimately a feeler and I doubt they have/had any real plans for him other than stealing him from WWE for the sake of being able to say they stole him (despite not being able to use his stage name).

Just seems like a fruitless endeavor. Even Bobby Lashley had more value to TNA. At least he wrestled a couple matches!

I really think he will be back on WWE TV sometime soon. We all know he can't wrestle, but what about as another candidate for GM. Heck, I think it would even be funny if somehow he was revealed as the anonymous GM from the storyline last year. I have always like a heel GM but maybe a tweener GM like Edge would work. He is def one of those guys that had to leave too soon. You can tell from the HOF induction he misses it big time.

Edge knows if he goes to TNA he would tarnish his rep and his fans would turn on him. Totally wouldn't be worth it. He gave his body to the WWE and the WWE will pay him for what hes done. I would personally like to see Edge have a bigger non-wrestling role at some point but I think for now he should take a long while off. Maybe when Christian comes back Edge can be a heel GM type guy where he helps Christian win belts or something.

If Edge goes to TNA I will lose so much respect for him.

Your title of the thread makes it sound like you found a report saying they were. He isn't going anywhere. Not being able to wrestle, he offers nothing to the table as far as in-ring matches.

This should be deleted. All this was was your opinion by luring people in with the thinking you had proof TNA was going after him, which they won't.

Scratch that last reply. I had thought Araragi's was the first post.

Edge isn't going anywhere. The only thing he could do in TNA is announce or play a manager, but I am sure the E will eventually have him do something like that in a couple years. He loves the E. They gave him a lot. Probably a lot more than some people thought he should have, but he made the most of it.

He'll end up signing a Legends deal and do a few appearances here and there. TNA will do nothing to further his legacy.
