Does anybody think the name TNA is holding the company back at all? Who thought of those initials? Was it Jeff Jerret? Come on the world meaning for TNA i dont even have to mention but how can a company be taken seriously at all with those initials? Does anyone think its too late for a name change? Would it hurt or help them? If you could change the name what would it be? Simply dropping TNA and just calling it IMPACT would be one idea, but Wrestling companies customarily have 3 letters for initials. What would you change them too to make them sound more credible?

This is a fail...
WWE's initials sound like wee. Thats not so serious. What do the initials have to do with anything anyways? Total Non-Stop Action isn't a bad name for a wrestling company dude. TNA has been extremly successful for a company that has only been around 7 years.

I agree i think the name fits perfectly. Most wrestling promotions have three letter; WWE, ROH, TNA and all those names fit perfectly. I think TNA is just fine.

I think the best know meaning for TNA is Total Non-stop Action. I had to use urban dictionary to figure out what else it could mean. Those meanings may encourage more veiwers. Besides, changing the name could get expensive.

You couldn't figure out that TNA in most meanings is referring to "Tits And Ass"???

I agree with the thread starter. WWE, WCW, ECW. The word's "World" "Wrestling" "Championship. Total Nonstop Action sounds extremely stupid.

How is that a serious question? TNA is a memorable name. If you're looking at the origin of the name then it was NWA-TNA. And since they left the NWA they've officially been known as TNA Wrestling. TNA is a simple abbreviation, it's memorable and it has little to no impact (no pun intended) on how people percieve the company. If it actually does change your opinion on them then you're an idiot.

IT couldn've intentionally been Tits N Ass to, which woulda been a ripoff of T&A in WWE with the team of Test and Albert managed by Trish Stratus

Originally TNA "Total Nonstop Action" names was perfect it was alot more wrestling when it was primarily just X-Division now its the more traditional hybrid style with a bit of everything and alot of boring bits that WWE fails in too.

anyway it's a name you know what it is now, so the impact is positive for them at the very least.

It was a struggle when WWE had to change from WWF but everyone is use it now TNA stated off as NWA-TNA then went full TNA so there's little impact

Game Over I agree with you on the last part It was a struggle when The WWF had to change there name to WWE yeah every is use to it now just like when NWA/WCW and then WCW broke away from the NWA yeah when i 1st heard the name TNA I thought it ment for tits and ass but you know after watching it for a long time it grew on me to Total Non Stop Action

Why change an established brand name, because its meaning could be interpreted as something else? I am sure most people don't associate it with Tits and Ass. I didn't even think of it, until you mentioned that. There is no need to change it.

the funniest thing i've ever scene in my life was when my freind was explaining to his dad that he "was going over to my house to watch TNA" and his dad just gave him this weird look and said "i don't think so your not watching porno" and i just started cracking up laughing

The name isn't important as the reputation that it brings... the only reason that the WWE is big is because of the venues its in, not the brand itself... they're nothing but a side show, but they're well connected. TNA by any other other name is still the better brand...

I 100% understand what you mean. Honestly I'm shocked more people don't. TNA is a poor choice for a name. How are potential sponsers supposed to react when Dixie Carter or Jeff Jarrett introduce themselves saying they represent TNA? It's a bad first impression. In business it's hard to overcome a bad first impression. In case people can't figure it out we're referring to how the initials sound run together, not the company name itelf.

What've you've just said borders on mental ******ation. You think TNA's sponsors are going to think they're being approached by a porn company? Honestly? That's so idiotic you should probably put a stupidity warning on that post. TNA's official name is TNA Wrestling, you're basically implying that business executives aren't smart enough to tell the difference between a wrestling company and a porn company. And apparently they'll get confused by the letters.

You are joking right?

TNA can't even sell out a small TV studio

WWE is big because of the brand it came from WWF, the 50 year reputation it built up, the huge production values, good money management and Vince McMahon pushing it globally despite all oppostion little to do with the venues it's in. If they were so shit they'd be losing bucket loads of money puting ojn shows in Stadiums that apparently noone would goto cause TNA is soo much better

WWE PPV's sell out within hrs, TNA always has seats left

If WWE went into bingo halls there'd be thousands upon thousands of people waiting outside just to hear something.

TNA is more of a joke than WWE ever was or ever will be PERIOD!!!!!

I didn't mean they should change it, i just saying in the begining thats the first thing i thought of when i heard the new show called TNA and obviously i wasn't alone in that thought then when it was stated as Total Nonstop Action and it was that in the begining. But not now.

No way should TNA change there name that would be career suicide now after they've alteast made some progress and have some semblence of a globaly known name.

What they should do is improve the quality of the show to reflect the brand name, and change from the constant swerves and screwjobs poor "story" acting with little qualified wrestling to Total Non Stop Action like they want everyone to believe

wow this thread is great! mixed opinions on both ends of the spectrum. I have to say to the people, that don't think the name has to do anything with a company; its the name, arguably just as important as the faces that markets the product. They have a hell of a slogan in "cross the line" but the name does leave a lot to be desired. It doesnt even have the the word Wrestling in it. True, a big TNA logo will get a guys attention for a few seconds but if you tune in and dont understand the purpose of the product then why would someone care to add that extra 2 hours of wrestling a week. I also agree with the poster that says that if they are going to keep the name than at least live up to it and be total nonstop wrestling.

It's not a matter of executives being smart enough to tell the difference. It's wheather or not they want their company associated with a company called TNA. Of course you and I know what TNA stands for. Everyone on these forums knows what TNA stands for. I've got news for you. There's a whole big world out there that doesn't know anything about wrestling. Most people probably don't realize there is another wrestling company besides WWE. Ask a non wrestling fan what TNA means and see what they say. The official name of TNA Wrestling isn't any better. Wrestling itself doesn't have the greatest reputation anyway. I'm sure a lot of people would think it's some kind of combination between porn and wrestling available on the pay per view porn channels. For every one person that knows TNA is a wrestling company there are probably a thousand people who have never heard of it. Do you think these executives want to bother explaining what TNA is to people? It's not worth the hassel. Get out of your bubble and see the real world.

I can't believe you're serious. The name is in no way, shape, form, or manner holding TNA down. If people are going to watch, they'd watch regardless of the name. And, TNA isn't a bad name at all for a promotion, it's really quite creative and clicky. Nobody cares if the initials reference that of you know what - the wrestling fans will watch. I can't believe this was a legit question.

And your point is what, exactly? So apparently you think the average person is going to come to the conclusion that Spike TV broadcasts a porn wrestling hybrid at 8 pm thursday night. I'd like to call that a straw man argument but doing so would be an offence to straws. And really at the end of all this you think that TNA's name is somehow a major impact on it's viewership. So does that mean that when it was "NWA TNA" most people thought it was a combination of Rap and Porn? When the WWE was the WWF did they lose viewers because people thought there was a show called RAW is War that they figured was about Pandas? TNA's name has no negative impact on the shows viewers.

I don't think the average person will think Spike TV broadcasts porn wrestling on Thursday nights. I think the average person doesn't know TNA exists. How can more people become aware of it's existance? More sponsorship. The name may be a turn off to a lot of potential sponsors.

Thanks for helping prove my point with the WWF comparison. World Wrestling Federation was more well known that World Wildlife Fund. That's why World Wildlife Fund forced the name change to WWE. They didn't want their organization to be confused with wrestling. I guess it was all about the name.
