I was never a fan of Taz. In the ring he was pretty good, but doing color commentary I always hated him. They removed Don West and give us Taz. :wtf: I am not pleased to say the least.

I was very happy with Don West's commentary. He was funny, refreshing, and above all a heel. It was different, and I liked it. He was over the top. Taz is not. He is in the MEM and he is still neutral on the mic, and I am not entertained. I am a new TNA fan so I am still very picky about the product since it is new to me.

I dislike his voice, I dislike his comments, and I dislike his commentary. He brings the excitement of the show down a couple of levels. The guy is boring, and now watching Impact feels like a WWE re-run. West was a breath of fresh air in a boring wrestling scene for me. He is the reason I started watching TNA (along with Booker T). I was laughing at his commentary while channel surfing and then got hooked because of how over the top he was.

What the fuck is going on?????? Does anyone else think Taz is shit? Do you wish West was still on the mic with Tenay?

Well hes doing alot better than west in my opinion cause now i can listen to the commentary its actually barable now but i guess i have to get use to taz on tna now cause it felt like for a min. i was watching wwe smackdown lol.

Taz "pretty good" in the ring? That's an understatement. Jimi Hendrix was a "pretty good" guitarist as well.

I don't understand the hatred of Taz's commentary. Am I the only one that remembers the 2008 Draft and how great he was that night? Taz can be damn good on commentary.

Is Taz doing commentary really making the show any more of a WWE rehash than having half of the roster full of WWE rejects? Seriously, aside from Sting, AJ Styles, and Samoa Joe, who the hell in TNA isn't a WWE reject? Taz is a big name and has been in the wrestling spotlight for many years now, why the hell WOULDN'T they want him on commentary?

For years all I ever heard was "Oh my god Don West is the worst announcer in the history of wrestling", now all of a sudden everyone loves him. He was doing the exact same shtick as Mark Madden was in WCW 2000. It was mildly amusing then, and it's still mildly amusing now.

I'd much rather have a wrestling legend on commentary who's entertaining then Don West, who simply makes TNA appear as an amateur league. Admit it, when someone tunes in to TNA and hears Don West they don't exactly start thinking of respect do they?

Fuck Don West. Thank God he's off the air, we spent too many years listening to his awful voice. Is there a man with a more annoying voice in the entire wrestling industry? I doubt it.

I agree with you and yes, I do remember the 2008 draft. "Raw is like the little league baseball team that get's all the good kids, I want kids!"

Ugh. I agree with X. The last 2 years everyone and their mothers were complaining about how bad West was. I remember people actually saying West was one of the main reasons why they wouldn't watch TNA. Now that he's gone, people are still complaining?

And really I don't see what's so bad about Taz. I personally prefer him to West's over the top antics. Plus I found West's voice to be very annoying. And while Taz isn't great or anything, he has improved since his early days in TNA, and this move could be seen a mile away.

I do give West credit though, since his recent heel turn has been nice and he works better as a heel, but I think Taz could do just a good job as a heel comentator if TNA wishes to go that route. But really TNA can't win either way, not everyone's gonna be happy, so I don't blame TNA for trying someone new.

Mysterio - This isn't a TNA win or loss, its just a change of pace. I never watched TNA until probably like a month and a half ago, so I don't know anything about West being shit. I've only seen 2 PPV's for christ sake. I'm going off of what I know, and since I'm a new fan and I've been listening to Taz for years in WWE, its disappointing that I just got into TNA and now I have to listen to him again. West was refreshing for me because I was listening to Cole & the new deuchebag kiss ass version of Jerry Lawler, along with the watered down JR and the green Todd Grisham. Never heard West before a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah X, Taz was "pretty good" in the ring. He had a decent career, but it was cut short. I don't go off of "what could've been". He won't be in the Hall of Fame or mentioned in any conversations of great wrestlers. Using a Jimi Hendrix analogy is disrespecting the great Jimi Hendrix.

Dude, I got news for you. TNA sucks. Stop watching it cause it's a WCW rip off. Tazz was good sometimes on SD! and he's an idiot because he left. He was a legend in the business and now just skyrocketed down the drain. He's crap now and they have put him in a bad position. He gets payed less for doing the same job lmao. I don't like it and he's an idiot. I just bashed Taz.

How is TNA similar to WCW in any way? I'd LOVE to hear your explanation of how TNA is a "WCW rip-off", I'm in need of a hearty laugh.

Tazz was good sometimes on SD! and he's an idiot because he left.

Right, because obviously you're an idiot if you don't work for Vince right?

He was a legend in the business and now just skyrocketed down the drain.

Hilarious. Explain to me how something can "skyrocket" down a drain. Not a physics major, are you?

He's crap now and they have put him in a bad position. He gets payed less for doing the same job lmao. I don't like it and he's an idiot. I just bashed Taz.

Unfortunately your post didn't contain even a minor shred of intelligence. There are things more important than money; like happiness. Taz wasn't happy in WWE and is extremely happy to be in TNA. Explain to me how he's an idiot.

TNA sucks so much that you are posting in the TNA forum? Taz is already established as a legend in the wrestling business, and that will never change. Once you are a legend in pro wrestling its very difficult to get that erased.

You bashed him in a different way. Taz is a wrestling icon, I'm just disappointed that the guy is doing commentary. He doesn't entertain me on the mic, unless he is going to be a heel.

Based on tonight's Impact! he's on that WWE neutral shit, which I have come to despise. Anyone agree with that statement?

Taz is a definite step up from Don West. The thing is, that's not really saying much haha. West was so horrible that its actually an upgrade to have a guy who stutters every other word and says virtually nothing but "I like this guy". While I don't think he's a good commentator, he's far better than West. Not really much else to talk about when it comes to Taz, in my mind. He's still the same exact character and so forth.

I don’t see how Don was a breath of fresh air if he was basically doing the same thing he did as a face except this time he praised the heels. I was never a fan of his during his time as face and I the only thing I liked about him was his enthusiasm. When he turned heel I still wasn’t a fan of his but I enjoyed him a little more, he actually made me chuckle a few times.

Anyways, I feel that Taz is a step-up from Don. I’ve always preferred color-commentators that were wrestlers at some point in their careers (although there are some that weren’t wrestlers that I did like) because usually they can give a better insight as to what is going on in the ring. It’s believable when they say something because they've been there and done that. I’ve always liked Taz and I think he does a pretty good job as color commentator. Now I hope he is able to say things that Vince wouldn’t want him saying since he probably doesn’t have as many restrictions in TNA. So I don't think he is shit and I like him better than Don so I was glad they had him replace West.

Dude, I got news for you. TNA sucks.
What!? Have you been watching TNA at all? TNA has been far more entertaining than WWE has been lately. Especially these last few months.

As far as Taz goes...although I was actually kind of warming up to West since his Heel turn, I still believe Taz is a lot better. Hopefully they will knock the neutral shit off and just make Taz a heel commentator.

TNA does suck...
Why?
i watched it tonight
Go on, I want to hear why TNA sucks.
and it sucked balls...
I am absolutely sure there was no ball sucking going on.
it is the gayest fucking wrestling show...
You haven’t explained why it is? I hope you do so in the rest of this already idiotic post.
i feel sorta gay watching it...
EXPLAIN TO ME WHY TNA SUCKS! IS THAT SO HARD TO DO?
they have no real charcters...
And what wrestling company does? I wonder what the hell you watch wrestling for then because there have never been a bunch of “real” characters in any wrestling company. What TNA has is a bunch of guys with gimmicks, which I mostly prefer over wrestlers with no character. If you want some “real” characters then go watch MMA or something.
just a bunch of men in tights...
Actually the male wrestlers use trunks. The female wrestlers use tights.
all of the gimmicks are way to strong...
I thought you wanted “real” characters not some gimmicks?
The show is horrible!!
You have obviously not been watching it clearly enough to realize it is actually pretty good.
i am guessing you are prob under the age of 13 to actually like this shit...
What the hell does age have anything to do whether you like something or not. I am over the age of 13 and there a lot of people who are older than me that like TNA. Age is just a number, it doesn’t matter how old someone is in order to like something.

I personally didn't watch the show Thursday. I honestly don't watch much TNA, but from the clips I saw on youtube Taz wasn't horrible. One of the reasons I didn't watch TNA was I didn't feel like being yelled what I was seeing on the screen. Don West has the same problem as Cena when it comes to being on mic. Thinking yelling is a substitution for inflection or emotion. I actually like the changes TNA has been making, it seems like the company is looking to being a better company.

The claim that TNA is just bunch of WWE reject maybe fair, but they have a ton of guys that have a ton of talent, they just don't use them to their full advantage. Look at the promo that The Motor City Machine Guns did, why they're not main eventing is beyond me.

I watched TNA tonight and Taz wassssss not good. He called Brother Ray Buh Buh Ray on multiple occasions, had no idea how many times Team 3D were Tag Team Champions, and just overall seemed very uncomfortable. While I wasn't a huge fan of Don West, I didn't hate the guy. I never hated Taz either. I thought Taz and JR worked well together on Smackdown for the short time they were together. It really is just a change of pace for TNA.

To base on whether you watch a show on 2 guys behind a table just doing commentary is totally fucking rediculous for anybody. Turn the show on mute during the matches, then once the matches are over and they're doing interviews and promos, unmute it. It's seriously that simple. Same goes with the WWE and Michael Cole. As much as he gets on people's nerves, quit trying to sound cool and badass by saying "I don't even watch it because of Michael Cole or Don West." That's just rediculously stupid blind hatred. Wrestling doesn't need fans like that. You watch wrestling for what goes on in that ring, not what 2 people are saying behind a table. Sure it adds to the show, but whoever is behind that table NEVER takes away from it.

I fucking called it as soon as the news hit that Taz was taking over. I said that they were going to remove the concept of the Face/Heel broadcast team that Jarrett had put in place and have Taz doing the Analyst Bullshit he was told to do in WWE. Why? Because that is what the WWE does, so of course, Dixie Carter has to follow suit and copy the WWE's horrendous style of commentary Vince McMahon has dictated.

I was told by other posters "No, he's not. Don't you know Taz is a heel? There is no evidence of that they are going to do that, at all."

So what did TNA do? Sure enough, they removed the Face/Heel broadcasting team concept, and had Taz do the same, boring, analyst shit that he did and that the rest of the broadcasting teams do in WWE.

Stupid, stupid move, TNA. Great job on taking the excitement and entertainment level down several notches so we can have Taz "analyze" the matches alongside Mike Tenay ... instead of having an entertaining duo that were great together in the face/heel concept. The Play by Play commentator along with my own two set of eyes can analyze the matches. The Color Commentator should be making the show entertaining. Taz didn't make the show entertaining at all in WWE, and he certainly did TNA no favors tonight.

I agree Sidious. I loved Taz as a wrestler. LOVED him. He was my 2nd favorite wrestler. I thought WWE really dropped the ball on him. But I just can't see the love for Tazs commentary. It's blank, its scripted , its just...there. Again, TNA preaches about crossing a line but yet they can't wait to copy some of WWE's failures and successes

I just got around to watching the show. Taz did a great job on commentary tonight. He did a great job of putting everything over without seeming overbearing. The show tonight was better than usual so maybe that helped him look better as well.

I agree with the threadstarter completely. Taz helped make last night's Impact not as exciting as when West was there. One thing West knows how to do is really put over things and sink in things and Taz wasn't doing that. He was bringing his garbage jokes from WWE back to TNA and brought a very boring vibe to the show. When West was on commentary, the show was a little much colorful which was great. Now we've got 2 guys analyzing on commentary. I think this is a stupid move by TNA! Sure, I don't think Taz sucks but he doesn't really do anything. In fact, he kind of took away. The best choice for TNA to have made would have been to just make the commentary a 3 man commentary so Taz could balance out Don West and we'd all be happy. Not hearing Don West make those anti-face comments during Impact is not the same. TNA definitely took something great away and that void is greatly felt.

People here seem like they won't want to admit that though. Their hatred for Don West from his face days is all they look at. Well, I've got news for you, not everyone is a great face commentator, look at King Jerry Lawler. He sucks as a face! But as a heel, he was great and that is what West was slowly becoming.

Taz was a huge step down from West. Over the last few months, West has been one of the best parts of TNA. His commentary was something different and exciting, not just a bland, face/face announce team. I loved hearing West's comments during and match and he was sure to make me laugh at least a few times an episode. He said things that nobody says on commentary nowadays.

What does TNA do, they bring in Taz and completely screw it up. He was supposed to be the leader of the Nation of Violence and the mentor of the most dangerous man in TNA, Samoa Joe. However, once he gets on the announce team, he more or less cuts ties with the Mafia, says that he is a big fan of pretty much everyone on the roster, and is pretty much the most uninteresting commentator in wrestling today.

I am so pissed that West was "promoted" for the Taz's shit commmentary. While watching the show last night, I was acutally thinking of things West would say at a specific moment. That's how stupid and boring Taz was on commentary. This decision has brought TNA's entertainment value down significantly for me.

Last night was one of the worst days of TNA's commentary history since Don West's first day on the job.

3/4 of the time Taz literally spewed one-liners that really can't even be considered complete sentences. The rest of the time his commentary was bland and he seem to have trouble trying to explain his association with Samoa Joe and the Main Event Mafia. The only shining moment he had all day was when he called a Seoi Nage (Judo move) during the Joe vs Homicide match.

What's worse is that having taz on commentary has simply reinforces the stigma that TNA is WWE-Lite all over again. Don West was far more original than Tenay and all of the commentators on WWE television right now. Don West's heelish transformation has not been seen in any capacity on any wrestling show in quite a long time. His references to all things controversial such as OJ Simpson hasn't been heard on wrestling television since JBL.

Shafe, Sidious, GD - Spot on analysis of Taz last night on Imapct. Basically the guy was just there talking. He gave no insight, and brought nothing new to the table. He didn't do good or bad, because he didn't do anything.

He stutters all the time, and uses incomplete and inarticulate sentences to describe situations that should be intense. He also always gives us his patented 5 seconds of awkward silence.

He called Brother Ray Buh Buh Ray, didn't know how many times they won the tag titles even though they put that over in almost all of their promos and is on the big screen when they come out. He also said Kurt Angle won a gold medal in 1995. These are not huge mistakes, but they are mistakes that West would not have made, and if he did make them he would do it in an entertaining way and put it over.

Taz is not an entertainer when he's at the announcers table. I would much prefer that at least if he is at the table, he be a tough guy heel who supports the MEM. He shook Bobby Lashley's hand and said, "No hard feelings." Give me a break. That goes completely against what TNA has been building in their storylines in the past few months. Let's see how this develops, because as of right now I am not impressed, excited, or entertained by his commentary. "I like this guy!", "I'll tell ya he's one tough guy", "Look at them go!"

He is a buzz kill plain and simple. Don West was different for me, and I want him back. I'm still going to watch, but an area of the show that I GENUINELY enjoyed has changed, and based the 8/20 Impact, I am not happy with the change.

I have to say that Impact was entertaining even with Taz as commentator. However, it would of been tenfold more entertaining with West. I like Taz the wrestler, the guy who shoots and says FTW. How did he go from being a bad ass mentor to being a nice guy on commentary. If you want to kiss Tenay's ass, do it out of character on commercial breaks. That wasn't Taz we saw on Impact. That was the same watered down Smackdown announcer that told bad jokes and agreed with everything Michael Cole said.

I got nothing personally against Taz but for the love of god act like you're a heel for Christ's sake. Taz impressed me more judging Tough Enough then doing commentary last night. There was no intensity what so ever. "Gee uhh look at Bubba I mean Bubba Ray going to get that table there." I know TNA can't be holding Taz back. Why the hell did he shake Lashley's hand? At least Don West would talk trash and even talk trash to Jarrett's face when he was doing guest commentary.

I know Don West isn't the best announcer in the world, but I would rather have a car salesman with little experience and tons of emotion, instead of a major superstar with no reactions what so ever. I actually thought Taz went to sleep through half of Impact. The show was still awesome but I don't understand how you can build up someone to be such a big heel in the biggest heel faction in 10 years, just to have them suck up to Mike Tenay. What is he going to do next week, bake cookies for Matt Morgan. Geez.
