Tim Tebow's Place in History

Tebow broke the record of SEC rushing touchdowns by Herschel Walker Saturday against Georgia. This adds to a impressive resume of two national championships and a Heisman trophy. He has a great chance of adding another national championship and Heisman. Where would he stand in the pantheon of college football players in terms of influence and achievements? I would put him right now fifth behind these guys:

4. Barry Sanders
Had most arguably the greatest college football season ever in 1988 when he rushed for 2628 rushing yards and 37 rushing touchdowns. Scored at least two touchdowns in 11 consecutive games and at least three touchdowns in nine games.

3. Reggie Bush
One of the fastest college players ever. A Heisman trophy and two national champions to his credit, he finished 10th all-time in NCAA Division 1-A history in all-purpose yards despite starting less than 40% of his career games.

2. Red Grange
Nicknamed "The Galloping Ghost", Grange was a three-time All American and won a national championship with the University of Illinois. Ran for 3,362 yards in only 20 career games and scored a touchdown in 19 of them. 25 of his 31 career touchdowns were from 20 yards or more.

1. Glenn Davis
A three-time All-American halfback, two time national champion, and a Heisman and Maxwell award to his credit at Army. Had a then collegiate record of 59 touchdowns and still holds the record for average yards per carry in a season with 11.5 in 1945. Still has the record for career yards per carry with 8.3

I'm not a huge fan of Tebow, but if he wins the Heisman and National Title this season, I think you could make an argument for him as #1. He'd only be the second guy ever to win two Heisman's, and I'm not sure there was ever a QB who won 3 Natinoal Titles. Grant it, Tebow wasn't a full time starter for the first one, but he did play a role in it.

Not only does Tebow have the stats and individual trophies, but winning the national title 75% of the time in a sport like college football is just incredible and I think national championships should be the barometer in measuring greatness.

Plus, he cried during a press conference.

I am a Tebow fan and I have always been a Tebow fan. find him to be an underrated passer and I believe he is the second best Quarterback in the upcoming draft. People may think I am nuts, but yes I think he is better than McCoy and he is a lot better than Bradford. I think the only QB who is better than him, is basically his clone out west in Jake Locker. Tebow is a winner and he has been a winner his entire life. He has two national championships, and could possibly be on his way to a third. He should have two Heisman trophies but I guess he wasn't good enough last year.

Where do I place Tebow in CFB history? He's pretty far up. Top three in my opinion and if he goes to another Championship game, I will have him as my number one college football player of all time. Why? Because he has heart and is an all around great football player. He is a winner, and is someone I trust under center. You need a tough three yards he'll get it by running the ball, you stop the run, he'll pass for 250. He has a quick turnover, so what, he'll beat you some other way. I have never seen a player with his heart, and passion for the game. And if he continues at this pace, by 2010, he will be the greatest College player and Quarterback of all time.
