Thursday's New Album

X

RIP Sgt. Michael Paranzino / RIP CM
Anyone else heard it yet? IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD. Totally different from their last album and really anything they've done. One of the best post-hardcore records I've heard in years, holy poop I was not expecting this to be so fucking good. I can totally hear the influence of Refused and I love it.

Unfortunately this is the only song I can find on YouTube from the album so far, but you have to check out the rest of the album as well, especially "Fast to the End", "Sparks Against the Sun" and "Stay True".

I am usually indifferent to your choice in music, X, but this is pretty damn awesome.

I heard half of that song counting and it single-handedly killed what was left of my interest in music as a whole. Full Collapse is one of my favorite albums ever. When they sold out it was pretty devastating.

...How did they "sell out" SD? In what way?

If you dug Full Collapse you'll like this, it has the same heavy, intense kind of atmosphere but it's also very dense and atmospheric. It's like a return to form AND experimenting with a new direction, it's hard to classify, but fucking awesome.

Was totally NOT expecting this. Thought this album was going to be totally mediocre, my how I was wrong.

Thursday entered the studio without any demos and impulsively wrote No Devolución on the spot.[6] Within a week the band had a full album written — a dramatically shorter time frame for Thursday as their previous albums had taken between six months and a year to compose.[5] In an effort to "[keep] the songs fresher," recording was performed in several two-week periods with a month off in between sessions.[6] The album's closing song "Stay True" was an improvised studio warm-up song based around a guitar part. Each day a new variation of the instrumental song was preformed and recorded live, with some versions lasting up to 20 minutes. The nearly eight-minute track that appears on No Devolución was Thursday's favorite version of the song, and vocals were later recorded for it.[7] Rickly also recorded some of his vocal parts in the forest that surrounds Tarbox Road Studios

That might be why it's so different sounding.

Sure seemed like they tried to make their sound more mainstream acceptable. Is that selling out? Hard to prove. Went to an awesome coheed/thrice/thursday show years back. That is the thursday I want to remember. I will listen to this at some point for the hell of it though.

1-For some reason I never thought Thursday would be a band Xfear would be into, I find this to be a pleasant surprise, I must ask are you a Thrice fan as well

2-Just cause an artist does or tries something different doesn't mean they're selling out, it means they're trying something new that's it, personally I would rather they try something new once in awhile otherwise every thing just starts to sound like the last album they did and get s boring

3-I need to get some music to listen to on my 7 hr. drive next month, adn since most music coming out these days is complete and utter crap I could see myself picking this up

Fuck yeah I love Thrice. I'm pretty eclectic musically, but I've always loved post-hardcore deeply. I grew up on this shit. My username is after all taken from a prominent post-hardcore band (Fear Before the March of Flames).

Exactly. Thursday definitely did not sell out.

You should give it a listen, it really is great. One of the best albums I've heard in 2011 so far. If you're a fan of them, you'll love it. Seriously their best album since Full Collapse.

Thrice is fucking awesome, Artists in the Ambulance is easily one of my top 3 favorite albums of all time, it's one those albums that is ALWAYS on my iPod, and in my car. I was suppose to see them last year drove two hours to the show, only to find out at the last second that is was canceled due to a family emergency, that was teh second time I missed them, Thrice is a band that is high on my "must see live" list. Fuckin' Love Thrice!

People throw the whole "sell out" thing waaaay to often, and useally when a band isn't even "selling out" at all

I need some new music for my little road trip over Memorial Day weekend, so I'll prolly wait a bit to get it, but I'll defiantly be adding to the list of new music to check out

I'm halfway through the album and it's dope from start to where I"m at now. Fantastic first half of the album.

I think I might be the only person that likes "A City By the Light Divided" more than "Full Collapse." I think both CD's are amazing, but I like "Light Divided" more.

about counting said:
Rickly has stated many times at live shows that he feels this song has earned the band both the most new fans and the most hatred from old fans.

At least I am not the only one.

Thrice is alright. I've never been that much of a fan but to awake and avenge the dead is a fantastic song.

Really? I like City quite a bit, probably more than most other fans, but it's still a step down from their previous 3 albums I thought. Full Collapse is their gold standard though.

City is the only Thursday album I think I own, well full album anyway, I have an acoustic thing they did with Thrice in SoHo, which i s how I first heard of Thursday I think. I need to pick up more of their stuff as well as Beggers from Thrice (who btw are working on a new album that's suppose to be out later this year)

I'll definitely check out the new Thrice album. Glassjaw just released an awesome EP two months ago called Coloring Book that's worth looking into too.

I wish I hadn't ...

It might not be terrible but something about listening to Thursday playing in this style just pisses me off.

"Playing in this style"...uhh, you mean the style they based their sound on in the first place? You don't like Thursday sounding like Thursday?
