Three Big Matches planned for Wrestlemania 31?

That N Word

Actively evolving
During the post-Survivor Series episode of the Bryan and Vinny Show on F4W Online, co-host Bryan Alvarez said that WWE has three big matches planned for WrestleMania 31 this coming spring.

Alvarez reported that even though it’s likely that current WWE champion Brock Lesnar may leave WWE after WrestleMania 31, WWE is still looking to have Lesnar go into the WrestleMania 31 main event as WWE champion and defend against Roman Reigns, with Reigns defeating Lesnar for the WWE championship.

The second of the three big matches is scheduled to be Sting vs. Triple H, which only makes sense after what took place at last night’s Survivor Series event. WWE is likely to do a storyline where Sting is the new WWE general manager, and eventually, Triple H will wrestle Sting at WrestleMania 31, with the winner, which is likely to be Triple H, gaining full control over WWE. There’s still no word on whether or not that will be Sting’s only match with WWE.

The third of the three big matches that WWE has planned for WrestleMania 31 is The Rock vs. Rusev. WWE fans assumed WWE would go in this direction after The Rock returned to RAW on October 6, interrupted Rusev and Lana, then “laid the smack down” on the current United States champion.

Rusev vs. The Rock may not be the big marquee match that WWE fans would expect from The Rock. However, there’s no question that WWE is attempting to make Rusev the biggest heel in the entire company, and they’re hoping he reaches that point by WrestleMania 31, where it’s likely that he’ll defeat The Rock.

Alvarez noted that these are the plans for WrestleMania 31 as of right now, and they’re subject to change, of course.

There’s still no official word on what Hulk Hogan’s role will be at WrestleMania 31, but Hogan has made it clear that he wants to have a match at the big event in March against either John Cena or “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. If Hogan is cleared to wrestle at WrestleMania 31, then WWE will likely tease that he’s going to have a match after the Royal Rumble in January.

As of right now it looks like The Undertaker will not be wrestling at WrestleMania 31, which is why WWE is going with Sting vs. Triple H, as WWE’s first choice was the highly-demanded Sting vs. Undertaker match.

So with that being said where does that leave John Cena,The Undertaker (if he does return.) Well I could see
Brock Lesnar(c)vs Roman Reigns (WWE hvt. title),
Sting vs Triple H,
The Rock vs Rusev,
Randy Orton vs Bray Wyatt,
Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins,
The Uso's vs The Accension (WWE Tag titles)
John Cena vs Bad News Barrett (There was talk within WWE that they wanted BNB to have a big Mania along with Wyatt and Reigns. Now WWE can just pick back up on this great rivalry.)
The Bella Twins vs AJ Lee and Eve Torrez (who is rumored to return)
With a 2 hour kickoff show featuring
ATGMBR II
Cody Rhodes vs Goldust

I definitely don't see The Rock vs. Rusev at WrestleMania XXXI as there've been numerous reports over the past few weeks discussing The Rock's schedule. He's due to start filming a buddy comedy with Kevin Hart during WrestleMania season and Fast & Furious 7 hits theaters just a few days after WrestleMania, meaning The Rock is gonna be out promoting the hell out of the movie in the days & weeks prior to its release. Since his injury at WrestleMania last year, there's been constant discussion as to his in-ring future and every report I've read suggests that movie studios don't want him taking the risk. While I don't believe the studios can legally prohibit him from wrestling, it's something that they can take into account later on down the road and use against him. For instance, maybe he won't be considered for lucrative roles in big budget projects in the future. And if one major studio does that, many others may follow suit because if they're paying him tens of millions of dollars to be in their movies, they might take exception to him ignoring their wishes and not putting his commitments to them first.

As for Lesnar vs. Reigns, that match has been talked about since just after WrestleMania XXX, so it's no big surprise if it goes down.

As for Sting vs. Triple H, I could see it happening considering what happened last night. To be perfectly honest, none of these matches strike me as particularly exciting, but that might change between now and Mania.

Out of all of those, the only one that seems realistic at this point is Sting v. HHH. Last night all but confirmed it.

Reigns, by no fault of his own, will not be a realistic contender for the WWEWHC by Mania 31. He's bee sitting out for months rehabbing, and the fans have all but forgotten about him, the only saving grace is the gratuitous satellite feeds we keep seeing. Don't get me wrong, I want him to carry the belt for a long time sometime, I just don't think it's at this Mania.

I can't imagine any scenario that involves the Rock actually fighting in a match. The dude is worth hundreds of millions in the box office, and that trumps VKM. The Rock will always come around, his some catch phrases, sell some merch, and lay some smack down on a standard heel on occasion, but he's not going to fight.

On to the rest of your card, just no. Everything in that card is pretty bad. Ascension for the titles? No Ryback? Cena vs. a midcarder? Orton vs. Wyatt? AJ Lee? No Ryback, no Ziggler, no Sheamus, no Harper or Rowan, no Danial Bryan(if he isn't back by WM31, count him out for good), and plenty more.

I can't see Rock v Rusev. The Rock is far too big for something like this. Sure, it would build up Rusev but it would never happen. I'd like it and it would make Rusev for life; however, there are more logical options for Rock.

If Taker isn't around, I'm happy with Sting/HHH. Two legends and Triple H is fantastic at what he does. He'll put Sting over huge. Moreover, there are many layers to a potential feud and I'd like to see where they go.

I'm absolutely on board for Reigns/Brock and I'd kind off be disappointed if we didn't see this. It could be a very good match and there will be long-term rewards.

If The Rock comes back, however, I can see him facing Brock. It would be a huge match and Vince would get his way. If that fails it would be Triple H which could leave Sting to face Cena which would be pretty cool. There are clear comparisons between the two and where Sting ended up (the crow) so I could really get into that feud.

The Rock is way too big for somebody like Rusev. That should be an insult to the Rock IMO. The anti-American crap has got to stop too. The Rock's promos leading up to the match probably wouldn't be THAT entertaining.

While The Rock is great and all, he should sit this one out. Rusev can fight someone else at Mania and have him get pinned there.

I have a bad feeling that they will have Cena v Rusev at WM31.

Why do I say that? They have had Rusev destroy all the competition put before him. Most also claim to be fighting for the U.S.A.

The ultimate way to go would be Hogan. This would have been his bread and butter back in the 80's, U.S.A. v Russia. There are reports that Hogan wants to wrestle at WM31.

But I don't think he will get medically cleared. Cena doesn't have an obvious match at WM so far. Cena also salutes and pays tribute to the troops.

Maybe the angle could start at TTTT this year. Have Rusev and Lana run down the U.S.A. in front of the troops. John Cena comes out and challenges Rusev. This could continue until WM, where, knowing WWE, they will have Cena finally give honor to the U.S. by beating Rusev (not saying he should, but I can see this happening).

Lesnar vs Reigns- was almost a guarantee about 4 months ago, now.......not so much. Reigns wasn't ready 4 months ago, and still isn't ready. Other possible opponents for Lesnar are Rock, Orton, or Cena

Triple H vs Sting- to say people were complaining about Triple H wrestling last year, there have been so many Triple H Wrestlemania fantasy matches, its no joke. Triple H vs Reigns, Ambrose, Rock, Batista, Orton, Ryback, and now Sting and/or Ziggler. I would be fine with anyone of these matches to be honest, so hopefully the wwe listens.

The Rock vs Rusev- NO! I found Rusev entertaining (a lil) in the ring, but to have a match against THE ROCK, just NO! Other options for the Rock: Reigns, Orton, Lesnar, or Triple H.

I really dont think Reigns will be over/ready by Wrestlemania, but I feel like if you don't take chances you will never know.

My Wrestlemania card:
Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton
The Rock vs Triple H
Reigns vs John Cena
Ryback vs Rusev vs Sheamus
Rollins vs Ambrose
Paige vs Naomi or Cameron vs Rosa vs Eva ( : ) )
Sting vs Undertaker
Andre memorial BR-preshow
Cody vs Goldust- preshow
Big E vs Mark Henry- preshow

Logic says sting beats hhh at rumble to look stronge heading into a match at mania
My top half of the mania card useing the key players discussed cause obviously if rock it being talked about for a match back stage he gave the thumbs up to doing it no matter his schedule so i think it looks like this barring issue or injury
Taker vs sting
Rock vs hhh(cause of past feud and rock will want someone he trust not to hurt him)
Reigns vs brock(with possible surprise cash in for the shock value)
Cena vs rusev(barring a miracle of hogan getting cleared to compete in a tag or singles match)
Bray vs orton(if orton turns face)

Of course this all depends ok how the Undertaker feels, but I still expect them to go with 'Taker v Sting at Wrestlemania. But WWE aren't stupid, IF that happens, it won't be Sting's first match.

I can see the following happening

Triple H faces Sting at the Royal Rumble
Cena faces Brock at the Rumble
Triple H screws Cena out of the title at the Rumble
Cena faces Triple H at Wrestlemania with the stipulation that if Triple H wins, he's back as the Authority of WWE

One match I want to see happen at Wrestlemania is Erik Rowan against Luke Harper.

When he wins, he goes to the corner picks up his Rubik Cube does a couple of turns and finally solves it. Holds it afloat to the cheers of the fans. Now that would make the whole PPV for me.

Rowan has really grown on me the last week or so.

I was reading the kids WWE magazine that my son gets and they are planting the seeds in that for Brock vs Reigns. They had it in their 'dream match up' section.

Looks like Sting vs Triple H will happen. However, I would make this a tag match and put Taker with Sting and Kane with Triple H. That story can write itself and seeing Sting and Taker tag is almost as cool as a 1 on 1 match.

I don't see The Rock having a match this year, looks like his schedule will not permit but he could definitely have a role in the Brock vs Reigns match as a special Ref perhaps.

While we are on the subject -

Lesnar vs Reigns
Taker/Sting vs Triple H/Kane
Cena vs Batista
Orton vs Wyatt
Bryan vs Rollins
Ryback vs Rusev
Ambrose vs Jericho
Divas match
Andre Battle Royal

Pre Show
Tag Title match

I've never been big on the idea of Reigns vs Lesnar. I just don't think Reigns will be over enough by then. I'd much rather see Rock vs Brock, the only downside being that the title would transition from one part timer to another. But, that doesn't look likely at this point.

I'm also really hoping Undertaker will return to face Sting. In my opinion WWE will have really drooped the ball if we don't get to see that match. Considering how loyal Undertaker is to Vince you have to figure that he will comeback if he's asked to.

I'd like to see Rock vs Rusev though the feud feels a little small for The Rock and with his schedule he's a question mark to say the least. With Rusev more than likely winning the match it would make Rusev a monster heel for a long time.

A few big matches I'd like to realistically see

Rock vs Brock, or Triple H( Toss up on which I'd prefer.)

The Undertaker vs Sting(Both of their careers on the line, where hopefully Sting would lose)

Cena vs Rusev (Hogan could be in Cena's corner)

If Rock were to face Brock I wouldn't mind see Triple H vs Cena (If Triple H wins he's back in charge)

Don't think they'll wait till Mania for this, but I agree Rowan is surprisingly good in this "modern George Steele" role. I think they need to expand on the "she" thing from a few weeks ago though, Renee was a pretty good pick for it but I could also see him and AJ teaming up if she sticks around... if only to set up another heel turn for her later.

Lesnar(c) vs cesaro vs reigns

Sting vs undertaker

Rusev w/lana vs cena w/hogan

M.i.b on the line

Bad news Barret, swagger, sheamus, harper(final 4) Barret wins

Triple h vs ryback(career match)

Divas-Paige v natalya vs fox vs aj

Tag-miz/mizdow(c) v big e/kofi

Th rock is absent because of his movie schedule

jese some poor information fed to the OP.
Wrestlemania 31. being held in a massive stadium in California....Sting will not be losing at Wrestlemania in his home state. And doubtful they will stretch HHH vs Sting out for 4 -5 months until Wrestlemania. That match is more likely for Royal Rumble. Rock vs Rusev....stop it. That angle was thought up on the spot as Rock was in the same city as Raw and stopped by and offered to do a surprise spot on the show. It was not pre-planned. Thinking The Rock will return to put over Rusev.....that makes zero sense, less sense than Cena going over Wyatt this year.
Lesnar vs Reigns....Reigns is nowhere near ready. Yes that was the plan........before he got injured and missed a few months of in ring action. His promos are still poor,. Sure his done some acting coaching, but he is not ready for the WWE Title at the biggest Mania of all time.
Reigns injury threw a huge spanner in the works.
Randy Orton returning as a face in a more cutting edge Viper role, and his loyal service and job doing last year will see him in a major role on the Wrestlemania card. Daniel Bryan is due back soon also, and he will be used in the upper mid card.
John Cena will lose again to Lesnar at the Rumble, and hopefully whomever costs him the match will lead to finding out his opponent for Mania. TYhink will wait until guys return from injury and see how the Rumble pans out before trying to invent ideas.

WWE Heavyweight: Brock vs. Bryan, Winner: Bryan then Rollins cash in?

I think you troll everyone by teasing it, but have Lesnar murder Rollins on his way down the ramp, getting revenge for the curb-stomp at NOC.

Cena vs. Reigns, winner: Cena

WWE Intercontinental: Ambrose vs. Rollins, winner: Ambrose.

WWE United States: Ziggler vs. Rusev, winner: Ziggler.

Now, before you kill me for suggesting Cena goes over Reigns, this is only part one. Roman should go in as the cocky, young, arrogant upstart wanting to prove his worth against the top dog. However, his cockiness will ultimately cost him the match. Part two will come in Texas next year, when the Heavyweight title will be on the line. Ideally the hero/villain roles will also be reversed at that point.

That's when you pull the trigger on Roman.
