Thoughts on WWE's current material and how the past affects it

I don't know if what I'm going to say is absolute nonsense or if I'm actually making any sense. So hear me out.

We all know that history repeats itself in many occasions and wrestling is not an exception to that rule. I've been thinking about WWE's last 4 years and I don't know if I'm paranoid but I'm think I'm seeing a pattern I've seen before.

At first I thought that Wrestlemania 31 was going to be WWE's turning point. You can't deny the fact that Wrestlemania 31 had a match setup that reminded a past/present vs future scenario, alongside an Icon vs Icon match in Triple H vs Sting. Reminds you of something? But of course! It was Wrestlemania 21 all over again.

Lesnar vs Reigns - Triple H vs Batista
Cena vs Rusev - JBL vs Cena
Sting vs Triple H - Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels
Randy Orton vs Rollins - Eddie vs Rey Mysterio
IC Championship Ladder match - MITB Ladder match
Undertaker vs Bray Wyatt - Undertaker vs Randy Orton

The pattern seems the same. Actually, it is the same. And when I thought that we are about to witness a new era in the WWE, the unthinkable happens: the fans turn on Roman Reigns! That turn, completely took WWE off track, the new page never got turned and we're back to square one. No only that, but unlike Wrestlemania 21, where every up-and-coming star (except Orton) won their match, here not a single up-and-coming star won their match. Rollins, Wyatt, Reigns, Ambrose, Rusev, all lost. Now WWE finds themselves in a loop, trying to re-build the broken momentun of their future stars. However in my eyes history is about to take an unexpected turn.

Let's go back to 2011. The turning point in WWE's future. CM Punk's pipebomb. Arguably one of the biggest and most shocking events to ever take place in WWE TV. It trully was, era-changing. 2011 is considered the start of the "Reality Era" by the IWC, although the WWE never really acknowlegded that term and stll prefer to call the 2008-now era the "Universe Era". :banghead:Anyway, the PG Era died (thank god it was awful) and the Reality Era kicked off. IMO three people are the key players of the Reality Era: CM Punk, Daniel Bryan & Brock Lesnar.

This is where another parallel begins in my eyes. The parallel of the Reality Era and the New Generation Era. Three people were the key players of the New Gen Era: Bret Hart, HBK & The Undertaker. Do you see the pattern now? The Reality Era and the New Gen Era have one major similarity and one major difference: low ratings, as far as the similarity goes and WWE isn't on the verge of bankruptcy in 2015, like it was during the 1995-97 period. A couple of other similar things are Bret Hart's contract/CM Punk's walkout and HBK/Bryan's almost career ending injuries. The New Gen Era also saw a rising star, named Steve Austin. The Reality Era also show a rising star(s), named the Shield.

WWE biggest (unforunate) mistake was that they never used CM Punk & Bryan's potential to create new stars (they were never given the opportunity anyway). And I don't mean Reigns beating Punk on RAW, I mean Punk & Bryan putting over the younger talent in a big match situation, like Hart, HBK & Taker did with Austin during 1997-98. That's the only thing I blame Punk for about his walk out, but that's another topic.

Right now the WWE is in a create-a-superstar-loop. The following months, seem like the months after the Montreal Screwjob, leading up to Wrestlemania 14, where things finally stabilised for the company and took a turn for the better. The following months are crucial. Right now, the WWE is lacking eyes to their product. Ronda Rousey, Rock & Lesnar (like Tyson in 1998) can get eyes to the WWE. Things are turning better and better, however the 'E need its new megastar. It's been 10 years since it had a new one. IMO the bar is set, the stage is Wrestlemania 32, in front of 105.000 people, all eyes watching, a new megastar will emerge. I bet my money on one of the Shield guys.

A lot of time has passed. Let history repeat itself. I don't trust the WWE, however I trust the current talent, which is IMO one of the best rosters the WWE has ever had. My theory? It's now or never for the WWE. Wrestlemania 32 should be, has to be the stage.

History will repeat itself.

That's my theory about WWE's future. Please share your thoughts.

*NOTE TO THE MODS*: I wasn't quite sure where to place this thread, since I'm talking about WWE's past, present & future. I decided to place it to the "Old School Wrestling" section, mainly bacause I'm using the past to predict the future.

I am not sure that I can agree - if only because different age groups will have their prefered period of wrestling history. And whilst I have enjoyed WWE with a passing interest over the past 6 years, there had been times I was active fan - eg.. 1989-1999 as the time.

I can't agree with the comment nor disagree if people see the matches at WM21 and WM31 as parrallells in terms of storyline developments/historic moments - as I don't see WWE the same way as young fans do - I am 32 and my favourite days will always be Bret Hart's reign at the top.

What I do know- is wrestling history repeats itself; but it is always good at reinventing it. I foresee the day when the next dip in business comes; and I think the next major thing to occur after the Undertaker retiring; is a John Cena heel turn ala Hollywood Hogan in 1996. It would be a shame for Undertaker to retire before having a match with Cena at WM. But i can't see WWE doing something so obvious as a Cena heel turn there... but the only person Cena can turn heel on would be Lesnar if it was not the Undertaker.
