This is why The Rock gets to do what he wants in the WWE

Excellence of Execution
Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson has laid the smack-down on all the competition, becoming the top-grossing box office draw of 2013.

He’s been the world wrestling champion in the WWE, and now he’s the champ at the box office. According to the Forbes list of the highest grossing stars of the year, The Rock—AKA Dwayne Johnson—has edged out Robert Downey Jr. as the highest grossing movie actor of 2013.

Talk about exposure for the WWE. The Rock is the biggest box office draw in 2013 and the WWE just got free advertising. This is why the Rock gets to do what he wants in the WWE.

Well, I would hope he is, since he was in about 17 fuckin' movies this year.

I see the logic, I do. Doesn't make it so it isn't oppressively annoying.

Aside from Mania though, has Rock's mainstream exposure really had much of a tangible impact on WWE's ratings? I imagine that a lot of the people that saw his films this year grew up with him in the Attitude Era and that that played a part in them seeing his films, rather than Rock adding more fans to the WWE.

Still, he's worked pretty dam hard this year and deserves the success he earns. I may even watch Faster this evening in a piss-poor 'well done Rock' ceremony.
