This Guy in TNA Named... Austin Aries

Getting Noticed By Management
Damn, why didn't WWE hire this guy when they had a chance. Consistently entertaining on the mike. Consistently amazing and so crisp in the ring. I multitask in this day and age of youtube and videogames and television (I'm actually watching Smackdown and playing Fire Pro Wrestling right now :p) but when Austin Aries is on, I have a knack of stopping to type, or press pause on the playstation and watch what this guy has to say. If someone came up to me and asked me, hey you love wrestling if I wanted to become a great wrestler who should I watch from today, who should I study of the current era.... I would say Austin Aries.

It's funny when AJ was on top with the belt and Ric Flair, I would tell people AJ is phemoninal in the ring but the real total package is Robert Roode. Now Roode's on top and he's doing a great job but I think Austin Aries is the MVP of modern day TNA. He's so good I would put him up there in the best in the world category right now. Who's in that debate these days? You gotta say CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Davey Richards, Kurt Angle. I think you could put Aries in a program with any of those guys. A real meaningful high profile good storyline fued and Aries would hang with them in the ring and on promos, even with Punk I think he could hang with Punk. I love Aries in the X Division but my dream match for him would be with Kurt Angle. I think they would put on an awesome match and have a lot of fun wrestling each other.

Aries was great in ROH, he was impressive in his first stint in TNA but in TNA today he acts like a veteran with something to prove, he obviously sets high goals for himself and in acheiving those personal goals I think he's outshining many on a roster of legends, established main eventers and fresh talent. If someone needs a reason to watch TNA among many things, and great matches, you'd have to say Austin Aries and only TNA's got him.

Austin Aries is doing a great job TNA is really improving its getting better because its not directly competing with the WWE. Austin Aries is only one of many good things in TNA right now but the WWE fans refuse to see the truth of TNA

Wait till Hogan's contract comes up for renewal, see if we all see it so positively then. Seriously, it's the elephant in the pro wrestling room. It kinda makes it hard to get excited about TNA knowing what is coming

es, Aries has done well as a small fish, and is becomming a bigger fish. He's def one of the good things on TNA right now.

I remember before Austin Aries joined TNA, there was a thread debating about whether he'd join WWE or TNA...forum members had said he wasn't talented or charismatic, yet he seems to show tons of it every Thursday night.

If he decides to join the WWE, I'll only hope they don't make him job on Superstars like Tyler Reks or Trent Berretta.

aries is definately a great small fish...i really like that analogy...aries will be in the big league ranks of wwe eventually...just not right now....you put live cameras and upwards of 100k fans (mania) that changes how you think and how you react to everything...look at sin cara....insanely good in mexico but put him on live television he craps the bed...hell even look at mr. anderson..he wasnt all that good in wwe...but he's really entertaining on tna (in my opinion)....i don't want to sound like a wwe fanboy but you really cant gauge top talent ability unless they have been in front of live cameras at least once a week every week all year long, thats just the current measuring stick in the industry i think.....so once aries signs with wwe we will see what he's really got...and i hope nothing changes, i hope he just lights wwe on fire!

Anderson was one of the best on the mike in the WWE and TNA in my opinion.
I think he may seem better in TNA because he had less handcuffs on him. And Aries is solid, he has what it takes to make it in WWE, he cut from the same breeding as CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. He can wrestle circles around people and he can cut a mean promo live or taped. If Aries had the oppurtunity that a lot of WWE's have right now he would be making the most of it and not wasting it. He is the type of guy that wants to be the best and not just be a guy on the roster. WWE would be better off if they had him.

Do you guys know Austin Aries tried out for WWE Tough Enough last year but failed to make the cut & rejected because he was 32 years old?

It was reported all over the dirt sheets & Austin Aries even made Youtube video about whether he would continue to wrestle.

Here is the video where Austin talks about being rejected by WWE & Tough Enough.

What is all this garbage about "WWE should have got Aries" and this huge amount of WWE slurping in the thread? WWE is not the end all and be all of prowrestling. Aries is shining in TNA. TNA is where he's meant to be. He can cut the promos he wants (No wwe handcuffs), he can wrestle the style he wants (no wwe handcuffs) and he's a singles champion bringing prestige to a title(no wwe meaningless title run). WWE passing up on him is their own foolishness. It's inevitable that Aries will one day become a great in our business and he'll do so in TNA because I'm confident enough to tell you that I believe that TNA is the company of the future and Aries will one day be the face of the company so long as he continues to impress.

Aries has REALLY impressed me in TNA. He has consistently shown charisma, personality and emotion on the mic and I have yet to see a bad Austin Aries match since he returned to the company. He is certainly worthy of a spot higher up the card than the X-Division.

I remember reading about him failing to make the cut for Tough Enough. An absolute disgrace. Aries could outwrestle pretty much anyone on the current WWE roster and they dont even want him on a developmental show? What the hell?!

I do think he is good enough for the 'E. I could quite easily see him as the US or Intercontental Champion right now, and even perhaps feuding with someone like Punk or Bryan at some point. You know the quality of those matches would be sky high.

The few times I've seen Austin Aries I've been *extremely* impressed. He's got it all: great mic skills and charisma, and a great moveset and technical wrestling skills. He's so much more entertaining than a guy like Daniel Bryan that it's a joke. WWE definitely dropped the ball if they had a chance to sign him and didn't. It's probably no surprise that he's in his 30's. Back in the day most wrestlers really didn't hone their craft until their 30's. The WWE has too many "green" guys in their 20's who don't know how to entertain.

I'd love to see Aries on the big stage in the WWE. I think he could be just as good as CM Punk (or even better).

Aries has always impressed me going back as far as his Austin Starr gimmick in TNA years ago. He is full of charisma and can wrestle better than almost anyone on the current roster. If Impact officials were smart they would add him into the mix of the mainevent and push him as jealous that he is not getting the attention he deserves. It would help legitamize him and bring the X-Division back to the top of the card. All they have to do is have him interupt a Sting promo when he is calling out Roode and have Aries claim that he is not going to get overlooked and that he is the future of TNA, etc....

Regardless, Aries should remain X-Champ and heel for a long time in TNA until he moves into the World Title picture down the road. As stated earlier he would be a great fit in WWE, especially if they bring up Rollins, Hero, Claudio, and Moxley down the road. An Aries/Punk feud could be golden in the ring and on the mic..

I definitely am a WWE over TNA guy ... but I still watch and enjoy TNA ... especially the current product.

One of the big reasons is Austin Aries. This guy is pure gold. I watched ROH pretty religiously for years for one reason and one reason only ... Austin Aries. I liked some of the other guys, but nobody gives more in the ring and plays his roles better than Double A.

It took him a long time to get where he is and he deserves every penny he makes and every adoration he gets. He could easily be a top guy in TNA and could even be a star with the big boys over on the E.

If you are not watching Austin Aries week in and week out, then you simply are missing one of the top guys in the business.

Do you guys know Austin Aries tried out for WWE Tough Enough last year but failed to make the cut & rejected because he was 32 years old?

Weren't there also reports that USA selected the Tough Enough participants and WWE didn't really have much say in that. I'm pretty sure that was the case. But that's for another date in time.

Now onto the man of the thread...Austin Aries. I watch TNA mostly every week. Now I don't enjoy it more than the WWE, but I do enjoy Austin Aries probably more than most stars in the WWE. I find him to be vastly entertaining and vastly talented on the mic and in the ring. He is the main reason I try to not miss Impact as I want to see Aries. I think the guy could be a big star, whether it be in TNA or WWE. He is talented to make it anywhere he chooses. Right now he is putting life back in the X-Division and much like Cody Rhodes is doing with the IC title, there isn't really anyone good enough for him to drop the title. I think Aries will certainly work his way into the main event in TNA as summer rolls around and he will definitely be successful whenever it happens.

Well speaking of Austin Aries, he's become the longest reigning TNA X Division Champion of all time beating Christopher Daniels' previous record. The record now stands at 182+ days

Now don't misrepresent the title. I'm not hating on Tna I'm just generally disinterested personally. BUT lately I have tuned in and watching Austin Aries is music to my ears. Phenomenal ! He is unbelievably good cutting promos and in the ring! I fast forward through everything (other than bullly ray and roode) just to listen/watch Aries work. I hope he holds the X division title even longer. I know he's set a record for tna as far as title holding, but I would love to see him hold it for a very long time. He could very well be a BIG player in TNA very soon.

So my question is: If Tna holds on to this talent, where do you see him a few years from now?

Aries is definitely one of the high points in TNA right now, and I think TNA fans, and TNA management are wise to that fact. There seems to be a subtle push towards a possible Aries face push in the works, now that fans seem to be behind his in ring work, and given that they were presented with the opportunity to cheer him as a face in his feud and match with Zema Ion.

It's hard to say where Aries will be in a few years, if he is even still in TNA come that time. It wasn't long ago, after his run in ROH that Aries was considering retirement, but it seems his latest run in TNA has reinvigorated his love of pro wrestling.

My guess would be, in the immediate future at least, that he will hold on to the X Division title till at least Slammiversay, possibly even Bound For Glory. Given that the X Division is so thin right now, it gives TNA the chance to give the division some sense of credibility and interest by continuing to keep the belt on Aries, while hopefully recruiting and signed some new talent to opposed him. In the long term, if fans continue to get behind him, I think it is only a matter of time before he moves up in to the main event picture. Aries and TNA have already acknowledged on camera that he has yet to get much main event attention, even as a champion, and that is something they have that they can always play off should they choose to do so. Right now just isn't the time for him to make the jump though, as he is saddled with basically keeping the X Division alive, and as relevant as it can be with a roster of a handful of competitors. Also, with Roode, Storm, and Bully Ray really encompassing the main event scene, it would be dangerous to insert someone like Aries, as his eventual push up should be given a great deal of care and attention, rather than being lost in the shuffle.

I'm by no means a TNA hater, I thinkt he product has gotten continually better over the last year, but I can't wonder what Aries could do in WWE. He'd be a perfect fit and foil to the likes of CM Punk.

A Double is, in my opinion, the most talented and well rounded person in TNA today. I think it is safe to say that the future is bright for The Great Man That Ever Lived.

From my understanding he isn't exactly a young gun and his physical size holds him back slightly. But I do have to agree, AA is just awesome at what he does and has brought something awesome to the X-Division. In a few years he might be competing with whomever is world champ but with wrestling who knows. Plus he's done such a great job with the X title, TNA is going to have to find someone special to take over if AA is pushed into the main event scene which is very possible since the indy scene is always changing.

I've loved "A Double" for a few years now and I'm glad to see people talking about him in this light. He's always been a solid worker and I don't think I've ever seen him in a bad match. He reminds me of Jericho in many ways. He is able to high fly and his mat work is second to none, a brilliant heel but I could easily see him being loved as a face. I think this momentum he's building can only lead to a face turn and being elevated to Heavyweight title contender. Although I can't see him holding their main title for a long time, I can definitely see him at least challenging for it and making a very entertaining storyline in the process. I'd say he has at least another ten years of wrestling left in him and hopefully a big push within the next year will make him want to keep wrestling for that long. A truly entertaining guy.

I remember when Aries competed in the challenge a few months back before he signed on permanently. That was the first time I had seen him, and he clearly had "it". I thought to myself, if TNA screws this up by not locking this guy in, they're nuts. I actually like the direction they are heading in right now, with Russo gone. The storylines are more cohesive, and they are starting to utilize there roster a bit more. A nice alternative to WWE, but not competition. You don't have to like one more than the other; just appreciate both for what they bring. And, AA is a legitimate star in TNA, where he most likely would not get that opportunity in WWE.

There has been a lot of Aries threads lately.

This guy is on fire. I see him holding up the X-Division for many years to come. TNA needs to wait until they send him to the Main Event. The ME in TNA is packed right now with guys like Storm, Roode, Ray, Angle, Hardy, and a few others. There is no room for A Double there. So let him stay where he shines in the XD for a few more years, and then move him up.

Love TNA. But they have a tendency to let good talent go. They are lucky to have gotten Double A and Daniels back. Wish Jay Lethal would have stayed.

I will watch an Aries match any day over an 8 minute entrance by Undertaker or Randy Orton followed by the same five moves you've seen for the last 10 years. Double A is original every time he steps out of the curtain. Thats what makes him special.
