SHALL WE BEGIN?
In this day and age, with social media, it seems truly obscene or obtuse news stories are made more readily available to us, via morons sharing them all over, thinking im interested in seeing a news story about how some wretch decided to cook their baby in a microwave.

Off the top of my head, I can think of legit news stories that I do not care to find links to that went like this...

Woman lights baby on fire to burn it to death

Man abducts various young boys to sexually torture (IE smash light tubes in their urethra....IE, dick hole) molest and kill them

Serial Rapist in church programs

Serial child rapist in a youth outreach program

home breaking and entering, in which an entire family was slain

kidnapping and robbery in which the woman was raped repeatedly, the man castrated, burned in a barrel, murdered, and thrown in a rive

To these, I say....

Here lies my case for the resurrection of execution by Gladiator, as in Ancient times....For crimes which are extremely depraved, and for which there is zero mitigating circumstance or doubt of guilt. Yes, little lady, you clearly set that one year old child on fire, and let them burn to death. To me, life in prison, or a quick, humane death in private is much, much too good for these people.

*Short and wildly shallow History Lesson*

A large portion of Gladitorial games were not quite as represented in film and pop culture. The Gladiators themselves were rarely killed. There was, however, plenty of killing. The "undercard" so to speak, usually consisted of convicted murders or rapists etc being executed by Gladiators, squash matches, if you will. Often, the condemned were given some bullshit weapon to attempt defense, but had zero chance whatsoever. This is like, say, taking your local home invasion meth head, and throwing him into a pit fight with Brock Lesnar.

*End History Lesson*

After having this talk with numerous people at varying ages, and levels, I have determined there are three people, generally, in this world.

- Those who would HAPPILY participate as a Gladiator in this function(get paid probably something like 75K a year, be on tv, your whole life is training to be a killing machine)

- Those who could not kill, but would be happy to sit in the Alamo dome with popcorn and watch the proceedings

- Those who think im a fucking psychopath.

Which are you? Consider the things I discussed carefully. Remember, these are the worst of the worst, remorseless child murders and rapists, and there is no doubt whatsoever on guilt.

(bear in mind, we do not need to discuss the logistics of if this is a real possibility. I am well aware it could never, ever, ever, EVER happen in our current PC world. I am just interested to see what people feel about the concept...Also, for my history guys, let me make it clear we are removing the slavery aspect of being a gladiator entirely. Think of the lifestyle as similar to a top flight MMA athlete, as far as training and dedication go)

I, of course, fall into option number one.

I feel the same, but judging by the manner in which media companies structure their material, it's plain that people do spend their time reading and watching this kind of crap. A TV news broadcast that sticks to reporting only happy things would quickly find themselves so far behind in the ratings, they'd go right back to the violent stuff.

The local newspaper in my town developed a "Community" section devoted to reporting about nice people doing nice things. The accomplishments of students, folks in the military, garden club shows, etc. are all in there. I asked the editors how this was being received by the public.......and they told me "Community" is by far the least read section of their paper.

Get the idea? You've got to have the violence and perversity to get folks to pay attention to your media offerings. The people may say publicly they don't like this stuff, but......

You're asking which of the choices people reading this topic fall into. Personally, I don't think any of them apply to me. I couldn't be a gladiator (not for long, anyway) so #1 is out......and I wouldn't be happy to watch people die (#2).

Therefore, since these are the only choices given, I'd pick #3..... but I mean it in a positive manner. If I were facing great danger while walking down a dark alley, you're the fucking psychopath I'd want at my back, Norkie.:)

Definitely fall into #2 would love it too, few beers at the pub pre-game and then off to the stadium to see a sicko get what he/she deserves. I think there'd be a high amount of people in favour of this(not a majority but still alot of people would be pro this)

The biggest stumbling blocks would be innocent people being convicted, how severe does the crime have to be and the mental wellbeing of the executioners who will be targeted by the far left. Also there's probably a high chance you're in category one because you are a minor psychopath

This. Definitely this.
I actually have a list of those I'd like to see do the "jobbing" to the Gladiators. :lmao:  :p

I do wonder how it would work out in a way that the real criminals get brought to justice.

I'd probly have my popcorn in one hand, and a "GO Norcal" sign in the other hand.

Like I said, this is only reserved for situations were pretty much 100% guilt is clear....Not just guilt, but quantifiable malice. There are PLENTY of situations like that.

As far as the severity, I could leave it to crimes against children, murder, and rape(first degree rape that is)

Being that im a heathen though, I would be HAPPY to extend it to home invasion/burglary, attempted murder, kidnapping, and attempting to solicit murder (trying to hire a hitman)

Oh, you want to break into someones house and brutalize them and scar them for like so you can take their things? You are some big tough guy who can go rough up and intimidate innocent people? I HAVE SOMETHING HERE FOR YOU TO FUCKING TAKE. And you ain't gonna have to steal it....here, ill just give it to you...

I'm honestly against any form of torture. And this to me is a form of torture. I'm a firm believer in the death penalty and when someone is without a shadow of a doubt guilty of something truly horrific, then a quick gun shot to the head should suffice. Get rid of the appeal process and all the shit that keeps a guy on death row for a decade and just diminish the World of that evil immediately. Before technology it would be hard to justify it but today it's damn near impossible for an innocent person to be convicted of murder, which is why I'm for this concept of mine.

Plus, I can watch fake violence all day, but when it comes to real violence I'm a pretty big pussy. MMA, pro wrestling, and sports is as far as it goes for me. I couldn't actually watch someone legitimately fight to the death.

All that said, those who are a bit blood thirsty for truly despicable people, I wouldn't label them a psychopath. Obviously they have some kind of hate in their heart to want to witness another human being get destroyed like that, no matter how evil that person is, but that's as far as it goes if you ask me for someone only willing to witness it (not partake, which then obviously the psychopath label would hold to a certain degree).

This is a strange one, I am not pro-torture or even pro death penalty. I probably wouldn't care if this sort of thing was done and televised, I'd lament our culture's modern vices (the needing to televise people in their most intimate and lowest moments) meshing with past cultures vices (you know, gratuitous violence for fun) in my more philosophical moments, since I am neither a fan of reality television or violence. I'd take part in both for money however, I guess fame comes along with that.

Years ago I used to do boxing, I wasn't too bad, I've got a heavy skeleton for a white man (trainers words, not mine) and a thick skull along with being quick and strong, but didn't really have the commitment to make anything of myself in that field, I don't enjoy boxing, I legitimately used to get bored mid-fight once the bloodlust had simmered down, but then boxing is a boring sport if you're not a disciplined person and just want people to hammer it out.

I'd never be able to watch it because I just wouldn't enjoy it, I like justice and I am not sure if that qualifies, justice shouldn't be concerned with bloodlust, in my opinion, in fact I'd probably despise the people that turned up to watch it almost as much as the people being slaughtered, I wouldn't begrudge anyone who made themselves a living at it, I might wonder at your mental stability, true, but ya'll will have enough detractors and an occupation is an occupation. By Christ, I'd be lying if I said I'd turn down that kind of contract without serious thought, I doubt I'd get any kind of personal satisfaction from it, but that's a lot of money for a (mostly) clear conscious and these people are dead men anyway...

Alright, I guess my answer is that I'd distance myself from the whole issue... but that's a good living I could be making there. I wouldn't give in to that temptation though... right?

What would happen, if by freak miracle, the criminal wins. Impossible you say? I recall Angle nearly lost a match to a jobber or something when they put him in a kimura and if it hadnt been for the ref Angle's arm would have been snapped.

Pretty solid story from history were this actually happened. Got a tv show and everything.

But obviously, you slant the odds to were this is almost no chance whatosever this will happen. Did I mention before that weapons are involved?

THat sort of thing. If by some chance it did happen, then you just send more and more gladiators in there.

There's a fourth person in said event you missed NorCal.

I'd be a promoter of the event. I learned a long time ago I'm not the kind of guy that will do hard labor to supposedly make more money. I'd rather make money off other people's money doing as little as possible, and make more than the gladiators doing the damned event.

Also, I highly doubt anyone would do this for 75k a year there Norc's. I dunno what kind of money you're making, but, there's not many jobs I'd go on tv to do to only make 75k a year especially one involving a gladiator arena.
