Themes help a star become more of a prospect

Don't look at the title of this thread and think ' Oh god, its one of those fans who use little technical devices within WWE such as themes or entrances as helping a guy get more over ' because I don't. But what I do believe in is the fact that when a guy comes out to a theme you have to believe in their character which the theme contrasts with.

I have two examples, Justin Gabriel. Now lets be honest, who actually even knows Gabriel's theme right now? I know, its that much of a jobber track. He comes out showing no connection with the music playing and just really kills the mood. No doubt he's a great in-ring performer with an amazing finisher but really? Coming out to some kids disco theme. That's why nobody even knows his gimmick right now.

Now in contrast guys that themes basically have become part of their character are, John Cena, CM Punk and even Alberto Del Rio. And that's something I really like. Del Rio's theme has no lyrics just patriotic Mexican themed instrumentals. That's why I believe there is a big difference in a character due to their themes.

The question I pose is, once a guy is over enough to be classed as main event. Do we need to see a change in character? *cough* Miz who ok didn't have a full character transformation but changed his look, style and theme.

Well i think that to be a Main Eventer you already have to have a theme which goes with your character.Look at all the top guys at the moment,they all have themes that go with there characters.Justins Gabriel theme song is terrible,you can tell simply by someones music if there going to be taken seriously or not.

You have some Mid-Carders who's theme song goes completly with there character and thats when you know they have a good future.Guys like Cody Rhodes,ted Dibiase,Dolgh Ziggler,Miz (Mid-Carder at the moment) and others all have themes that go with there character.I think to get a good crowd reaction you to have a good theme which excites the crowd.Remember Kurt Angles theme and the corwd use to chant 'You Suck You Suck' it gets the crowd going and I think that guys with jobber theme songs or a kids song will never be a Main Eventer just by their theme.

It can help to do stuff like that, but they're just a gimmick. Look at Andre the Giant, he never had theme music, and in his day he was the biggest (no pun intended) draw in pro-wrestling. You certainly didn't get some country singer sounding guy saying Weeeeeeeeell it's the Big Show! Andre had the look of a giant, I mean, I get that Big Show is comparable in size but watching Andre, he just had this presence that made him look and feel like a true giant. So when Andre came down to the ring it was more like a hush would fall over the crowd and just watch this giant in awe. Music would have really ruined that effect he had on people. I mean seriously, someone comes to the ring they're either ignored by the fans or cheered or boo'd like crazy, who comes down to the ring and inspires a hushed awe? No one, because the music prevents it.

I really don't think this is true because the audience of the 90's used to have the hushed awe for both Undertaker and Kane during their early careers. I think this only changed once they were given a personality, they had music all along but I think once fans saw Kane was a dick to Taker they boo'ed him until his face turn. Same with Taker, they didn't respond to the music they responded to the character so I think that Andre could've maintained the same reaction regardless of whether or not there was music in the background.

In terms to this thread, IMO music is key to the success of WWE superstars. I don't think anyone can demonstrate this point anymore than Edge, although Triple H and Randy Orton have done it too. Music is supposed to define a star's character and when they evolve the music should evolve with it, just how Edge's different themes evolved with his twists and turns. Triple H used 'My Time' when it literally was his time to step up and become the top guy in the company and then used 'The Game' when he turned heel and exploited his nickname/gimmick The Game. When Orton broke away from Evolution it was his time to let his light shine so he used 'Burn in My Light' but when he transitioned to the sadistic viper his music evolved too, to Voices.

These examples show that music is essential and that yes, a good character with good music is needed to become a main-event superstar

I understand what your saying. Like the Miz when he had jus the instrumental music and then I hear the AWESOME, and said hmm, maybe they like this guy. Theme's do help out a superstar and can fit into his character, like The Game, for Triple H's charcter, or His King of King's song (which is way better imo) fit's him too.

What I think is when a charcter has generic music, then one day has a theme that fits him the E must want to give him a little push to make people care.

One theme I don't understand is Big Zeke's Domination theme. HE HAS BEEN JOBBERING which is far from dominating.

one theme i hated was we are one for Nexus... it just didn't seem to fit their "come in and take over" attitude. there was no BOOM factor for it, and i found it make me alot less interested when they would come out to the ring. I've always found that the initial impact of the theme and entrance helps set the tone for the match.. on a side note, i think nexus should've used Riot by Three Days Grace... think it would've fit the situation and the group extremely well, and maybe got a few more people to pay attention to them in different ways

I dont think the themes need lyrics... I would like to see more recognisable themes such as Austin's and booker T's.
The nWo theme was always a fave of mine.
And although Im not big on TNA the AjStyles theme before they added lyrics was really catching on me...ooh and I just remembered Christian Cage's theme!

Yes though, Gabriels theme is just terrible and so is Bryan Danielson's... the themes gotta be catchy not just random generic crap thats been thrown together absent thought. Having said that, Bryan Danielson is very over right now reguardless of his lame theme.
