Their Best Year: Triple H

Championship Contender
There are so many series out there like 'Criticizing the Best' that I enjoy looking at so I'm gonna take a chance and start my very own series here on WrestleZone. In 'Their Best Year' I'll name a legendary superstar and you have to decide which year was the best of their career.

For legendary superstars this feat will be difficult, because all hall-of-fame worthy wrestlers have more than just two or three good years. That's why this thread is necessary, so that we can try and decide which year stands out from the rest as that star's best year.

In the inaugural edition of this series, I'll throw out a fairly easy one and even answer the question (which I won't always do)

Triple H
The King of Kings

The Man of almost as many nicknames as titles, Triple H. He's been a main event talent since 1999, and even contended for the World title in 2010. People are very anxious for his return in 2011, and hope he can add more memorable moments to his career. Which year was his best?

To me, it was 2000. Triple H was serious on top of the wrestling world in this year, dominating via the McMahon-Helmsley faction and DX. A lot of people cite his match against Cactus Jack at RR 2000 to be the best of his career, and the match that solidfied his place in the main event. By the end of this year, he was the biggest tweener, looking like a face when feuding with Kurt Angle over his wife, but being the dastardly heel when feuding with Rock over the title. The storylines they came up with for this guy in 2000 were just gold, as was his delivery both in the ring and during promos.

id agree. 2000 was HHH's year def...but 2003 also comes to mind when he was running the show again with evolution n his feuds with wcw stars. It seemed like he was untouchable this year

Nice choice but i would have to choose 2002 Triple H was simply the best. he started off by coming back from his injury to win the 2002 royal rumble while also being a face and the whole thing with stephanie was also good. Add to the fact he won the undisputed title from chris jericho at WM X8 in the main event but lost it to hogan at backlash. During the summer he teased a reunion of DX with HBK and we all know how that turned out leading Triple H to becoming a heel once again. had a classic unsanctioned match with hbk at summerslam which he lost but was handed the world title by eric bischoff on raw. beat RVD at unforgiven with the help of ric flair to retain and then beat kane at no mercy to unify the world and intercontinental titles. lost the world title to HBK in the first ever elimination chamber at SS 02 but regained the title at armegeddon in a three stages of hell match closing out the year on a high note much like he started the year.

IMO, 2002 was HHH's best year. The reason being was his incredible feud with Shawn Michaels after HHH turned on Shawn in the middle of the ring after getting Michaels to reform DX. It was completely unexpected and what happened afterwards (the parking lot attack) along with the SummerSlam match as well as the creation of the Elimination Chamber really solidified HHH as the main guy on the roster. HHH's role as a heel was perfect, and is sorely missed today. I loved his matches against Shawn Michaels and were argubly one of the best feuds since Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair.

It's between the year 2000 or 2002/2003, where Triple H was the top heel in the company. I'll go with the year 2000 though because this was Triple H before the injury, and this is where he was the best in the ring from any year I've seen him. His matches were great through out the year, and his promos were even better.

End of 2002 to the better part of 2003 was good too, but the product wasn't as good as it was in 2000 so I think his best year, best work, and best matches all came from the year 2000.

Loved the summerslam match he had with Angle and the Rock, one of my fav. matches of the past decade.

2000 is a good choice, but I'll go with 2002, mainly because of the feud with HBK. You thought DX would reunite, then HHH turns on HBK in the middle of their catch phrase. HHH then jumps HBK in the parking lot, putting his head through a car window. The segment when it was revealed that it was HHH who jumped HBK was classic. You have the SummerSlam match, which was very entertaining but also had the attack on HBK with the sledge hammer after the match, which led to the moment of seeing HBK jumping out of the wheel chair. I don't want to turn this into a post about HBK, but you had him winning the world title in the Elimination Chanber match, which set up the capper to the year, HHH v HBK in a 3 stages of hell match. Either year would be a good choice, but I think 2002 is slightly better.

I can't even compare 2000 to 2002. In 2000, HHH started off the year with two great matches against Foley. He had the Ironman Match with The Rock which was well done and a great Last Man Standing match against Jericho at Fully Loaded. His feuds with Angle and Austin were awesome as well. 2000 HHH was at his absolute best and I don't think any other year comes close to that in terms of performance and dominance.

HHH's best year would have to be 2000 thats were he was truly the best in the business with his awesome matches and feuds with Foley,Rock,Y2J,Angle,Benoit and Austin. and one of my fav matches of his was the Iron Man against Rock at Judgmentday.

I think 2000 is easily his stand out year, at that point in time he was the best in ring performer in the business IMO, the feud with Cactus Jack to kick off the year was amazing and resulted in two bloody brawls, one of which is a classic.

He then moved into the big title feud with The Rock and had two stellar PPV matches with him, one at Backlash and the classic Iron Man match at Judgment Day. This feud then meshed into the brewing feud with Kurt Angle over his wife Steph, that led to the big Rock/HHH/Angle triple threat at Summerslam and then the singles encounter at Unforgiven, before Triple H strayed into tweener territory with his short feud with Benoit over Benoit headbutting Steph that culminated in a good match at No Mercy.

Wedged in between this was a mini feud with Jericho that included the awesome Last Man Standing Match at Fully Loaded.

I don't think many, if any, have had better years than that.
