The WZ Chikarmy Thread

The Holy One

What's really good?
Welcome all posters to the first ever thread dedicated to the funniest wrestling promotion today, CHIKARA!

What is Chikara? You may ask. Well here's the Wiki definition of it:

Wikipedia said:
CHIKARA (sometimes referred to as CHIKARA Pro) is an American professional wrestling promotion based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their major events each year include the King of Trios tournament between February and March, Aniversario in May, Young Lions Cup tournament held between June and August, and the Torneo Cibernetico held between September and November.
The company takes both the name and logo from the Japanese kanji meaning strength.

That however doesn't do the company justice. Chikara is much more than a simple promotion in Philadelphia. It's the only company on this side of the globe that you will find such moments like:

The Grenade

FATALITY

The Defamation of Princess Peach

So if you like the lighter side of wrestling without the serious overtone, Chikara is the promotion for you. However, it's not only just a comedy show but full of the flippiness, high paced action that marks love. So come and join the Chikarmy and enjoy the hilarious insanity.

Chikara has been on fire this year. They have had great show after great show and have been on a roll. This year's KOT was amazing and is one of the best weekends of wrestling you will ever see. They are in a tournament to decide their first ever singles champion and it has been very entertaining thus far.

My top three CHIKARA matches this year are:

El Generico vs Eddie Kingston
El Generico vs 1-2-3 Kid
Mike Quackenbush vs Hallowicked

CHIKARA to me is what a professional wrestling show should be. Good, clean fun that everyone can enjoy. It has the over the top characters I love as a kid with the high-flying action I love today.

I would urge everybody to watch the KOT. Another match I would include on Bearded's list is the Osaka Pro vs F.I.S.T Quarterfinals match on KOT Night 2.

Awesome sauce. I'm in.

I showed my neice Team Minnesota vs. Team Michinoku Pro. She cracked up at Darren Corbyn's slow-mo spot with Sasuke!

I love CHIKARA. What I love is that it isn't all humor, it also has some really awesome matches. Cases in point, two of my top matches of the year, both from King of Trios 2011: FIST vs. Team Osaka Pro (Night 2) and El Generico vs. 1-2-3 Kid (Night 3). Be sure to check those out if you get the chance.

And now, to update people on the current goings-on within the company.

The current Campeonatos de Parejas (Tag Team Championships) standings:
Current Campeones de Parejas:
Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw

Three Points:
Momo no Seishun Tag (Atsushi Kotoge & Daisuke Harada)

One Point:
Brüderschaft des Kruezes (Tursas & Daizee Haze)

Brüderschaft des Kruezes (Tursas & Pink Ant)

The Osirian Portal (Amasis & Hieracon)

Brüderschaft des Kruezes (Tim Donst & Pink Ant)

The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black & Hallowicked)

Off the Board
The Throwbacks
Harada and Kotoge have accrued enough points to challenge Quackenbush and Jigsaw for their titles. It'll be interesting to see when they do so and if they'll be successful.

--------

Recently, CHIKARA instituted a singles championship, and there has been a race to see who gets to wear it first contested via a round robin tournament called the 12 Large Summit.

Basically, these competitors are having matches and other wrestlers on the roster are voting for who gets the shot. They can't vote for themselves. There may also be a few other ways it works but I think I have it right. The tournament is separated into two blocks:

BLOCK A
Claudio Castagnoli
Hallowicked
Icarus
Ophidian
Mike Quackenbush
Sara Del Rey

BLOCK B
Fire Ant
Vin Gerard
Jigsaw
Eddie Kingston
Brodie Lee
UltraMantis Black

Personally I'm hoping for an Ultramantis Black or Sara Del Rey win here. Ultramantis Black is one of my favorites in CHIKARA, and I love Sara Del Rey and think her winning would really be quite interesting and unique.

Who are you rooting for?

Doc, I believe you missed a team in the standings. The Spectral Envoy (Mantis and 'Wicked) have one point to their name.

As for who I'm pulling for in the 12 LARGE: Summit, I'll be honest and say either UMB or Quack. Mantis, as you already know from facebook, is my spiritual advisor. As for Quack, I just love him. Did you know he hasn't aged one bit in 15 years in the business?!

However, the odds on favorite is Kingston. The man has been on a roll since last years Cibernetico, after all.

I do think Kingston is the odds on favorite and I wouldn't mind seeing him win, but I'm rooting for Ophidian to win it for Amasis.

Right, I've updated the list.

Kingston and Quack are both really good shouts. Quack is awesome, but he's also half of the tag champs and owner of the company. Those things might count against him right now. He's great though, even on commentary. Probably my favorite guy behind the Commentation Station.

Kingston is as you said on a roll, and he's also super over. He's a bit different from your normal CHIKARA regular, being a rough kind of guy, and I think that sets him apart enough to work. Though he is of course very PG, as Bryce Remsburg is quick to point out. ;)

I also think Kingston is the odds on favorite to win the 12 Large: Summit.

Here are the standings thus far:

Block A Standings

Claudio Castagnoli 2 points
Sara Del Rey 2 points
Hallowicked 2 points
Mike Quackenbush 2 points
Icarus 0 points
Ophidian 0 points

Block B Standings

Eddie Kingston 2 points
Vin Gerard 2 points
UltraMantis Black 2 points
Jigsaw 0 points
Fire Ant 0 points
Brodie Lee 0 points

Brodie Lee is going to be out for the majority, if not all, of the tournament, so he will have to forfeit his matches.

The next two shows for CHIKARA are the two nights of Chikarasaurus Rex: King of Sequel Night One July 30 and Chikarasaurus Rex: King of Sequel Night Two July 31.

The card so far for CR:KOS Night One is as follows:

Mike Quackenbush vs Claudio Castagnoli
Green Ant vs Tursas
Johnny Saint vs Johnny Kid
Mimi Shimoda, Tsukasa Fujimoto and Portia Perez vs Makoto, Daizee Haze and Sara Del Rey

CR:KOS Night Two has the following matches announced thus far:

Claudio Castagnoli vs Sara Del Rey
Ophidian vs Icarus
Eddie Kingston vs Jigsaw
Johnny Kid and Colt Cabana vs Johnny Saint and Mike Quackenbush

It is going to be a great set of shows.

Speaking of Bryce, is he not the greatest ref this side of Nick Patrick?!

Concerning the Commentation Station, my favorite Duo is Quack and Gavin Loudspeaker, with a close second going to Ultramantis and the late, great Golden Palmeno "Sweet n' Sour" Larry Sweeney. His time on the Station will be greatly missed.

New question: What is everyones favorite incarnation of UMB?

A)Ultra/ZERO

B) Nightshift

C) The Order of the Neo Solar Temple (any line-up)

D) A Spectral Envoy

My vote goes to C, with emphasis on his partnership with Crossbones.

C, and mostly because of Dr. Cube. I have a bit of a soft spot for Dr. Cube, because I knew about him before I knew about CHIKARA. Kaiju Big Battel and Cube in particular are pretty well known among anime fans, and I always see at least one Dr. Cube costume at conventions I go to. Wonder how many people even know who he really is...

The straight black-and-white mask is also my favorite Mantis mask, so there's that.

My favorite Commentation Station duo is Bryce Remsburg and UltraMantis Black, although there are no bad combinations.

As for UMB, I like the Spectral Envoy the best, mainly because I just got into CHIKARA earlier this year and I love me some Frightmare.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't know who Cube was until about a year ago, when I initially got into CHIKARA. And, I'm sorry, there are conventions in our area?! Dude, lemme know when the next one is!

Bryce and Mantis are awesome, especially when they start discussing various vegan treats.

Frightmare, and I may be wrong here, is currently the most defending YLC champion, with 7 or eight defenses.

Doc mentioned Mantis' masks. I'd say my favorite is probably the Black/orange combo he's been using this year. Either that, or his old school Green and red "UltraMantis" mask, before the rudo turn.

Now that is awesome.

Well, they're not in our area, but they're close - Ohayocon and Anime Punch are both in Columbus along with several others. I plan on actually going to my next convention as Mantis. Making a custom mask and everything. You could be Crossbones :lmao:

Dude, I am not nearly large enough to pull of Crossbones. I'm thinking more along the lines of The Mighty Man Monster The Hydra, or possibly Mr. ZERO?

I'm pulling for Ophidian, probably a doomed cause, but what the hey.

Ophidian has had some success in the past. He won the 2010 RDV Tournament. He's a very good wrestler, but I'm worried about where he is going to go from here with Amasis being forced to retire. I just can't imagine the Osirian Portal as just Ophidian and Hieracon. Maybe if Amasis stays around as a mouthpiece, but other than that I think the Portal needs to come to an end.

You know, Amasis' retirement makes Ophidian a bit more likely to win it, at least at some point in time. I'm not sure if he'd be good as the first champ, but as you said, I think the Portal's time has sadly come to an end.

Side note, Ophidian's mask is my second favorite in the company.

Ophidian is the one Wink Vavaseur refers to as "snake-face", right? He's pretty good, but will definately need to work on his mic skills without Amassis around. He and Gresham (Heiracon) both will.

Hieracon is just so tiny. I could put him in my pocket and carry him around and let him peak out of the top. I think he and Ophidian can still make a good tag team, but unless Amasis is still around I don't think it would work as the Osirian Portal. They could give Ophidian another snake-like gimmick and Gresham could either be himself or another bird gimmick. Heck, sign R-Truth and have him manage Ophidian and Gresham in new gimmicks as the "Zoo Keeper."
