The Wrestler

Dark Match Winner
Ok so i was sceptic about seeing the wrestler so i rented it yesterday, The movie is good and seeing my old time wrestling friends wxw czw and roh i have to say it was a good movie, The ending seems to be a little undone and i wish it would of been better..But this goes to show you some crazy things...Rent it watch it, let me know what you think. R truth is in the movie too..

I thought the movie was good but not great and slightly overhyped. It did give a good insight into the business such as the wrestlers laying out their matches together and how they use blading etc (and yes the downfall and redemption of Rourke's character was the central theme) ...I would agree that the ending seemed a little undone...it just sort of ends..abruptly at that. Overall good and nice to see some familiar faces but it didn't live up to the hype it received imo.

C'mon guys this is an amazing movie with the single best acting performance of the year. Mickey Rourke won every major award besides the Oscar and I attribute that to the bridges hes burned over the years as well as the mainstream medias disdain for pro wrestling. The locker room stuff was cool but that wasn't what the film's backbone was. It was all about the Ram and his tragic fall from grace. The shattered relationships he left behind as well as the broken body he carried around on a day to day basis. This was an excellent film, I know the ending might not have been as gift wrapped as most movies are nowadays but seeing the Ram keel over in the ring wouldn't have made it any better. A+, Darren Aronofsky is an amazing director and I will look forward to The Fighter this year with Wahlberg and Brad Pitt.

have to agree with Bud78, this wasn't a movie about wrestling but a drama that just so happens to be about a wrestler. i would give it 4 stars personally.

I liked "The Wrestler", I would have liked a little more about the business of wrestling. There were parts where it felt like it was being filled to get more time. I did like the locker room scene and the cut scene. The ending left something to be desired. Overall I liked the movie, but I don't know if it was worth all the hype.

Any film that wins or is in the category for movie of the year or whatever its call usually isn't good unless you are 50 or older. I remember watching Sideways and Capote, both of which have won MOTY at the Oscards, I think, and either falling asleep or turning it off because I was bored to death.

"The Wrestler" is definately worth a rent!

The Wrestler was an overall great movie. The ending could have been better, but the body of work that Mickey Rourke put into that role deserved an Oscar. He legitimately put himself through hell in some of those scenes and made it all seem so real. I cringed at some parts in the movie.

It's a good look into the business, but not as in depth as some have said. Many have debated who this is about. Is it Terry Funk? Jake 'The Snake' Roberts? Any member of the Midnight Express? Does it matter? Personally, I believe it could be more about Terry Funk than Roberts, simply because of the hardcore things he did later on in his career.

But aside from that, it's a good watch, but not a date movie. Of course the WWE's going to hype the movie somewhat too much, but it's the only way to get the word out. It was worthy of an Oscar nomination, that's for sure.

It's definitely one of the better movies I've seen in a long while. I'm amazed that Rourke won the major industry awards that he did, given his past. I'm not surprised, however, that he didn't win the Oscar because there's simply too much political clout in Hollywood for that to happen. His competition is a freformed Hollywood bad boy that's become a Hollywood darling who was portraying a well known gay activist. The Academy has had a love affair over the past several years with straight actors taking on gay parts.

Anyhow, I'm off point. The film was never really supposed to be about the wrestling business, it's simply about how Rourke's character can't let it go and the hardships that come with the choices he's made. To varying degrees, I'm sure Randy "The Ram" Robinson mirrors the lives of more well known wrestlers than we know about and that the wrestlers themselves will admit to.

Just watched the movie last night and it lived up to the expectations I put around it, and those were high. Rourke was excellent and really should have won an oscar, but that is for another conversation. The ending could have been different, but it was still a great movie. One of the better movies I've seen in years.

The Wrestler is phenomenal. Simply put. Mickey Rourke's performance in that film was easily the best of the year. I don't get emotional and whatnot during movies, but through that film, Rourke's performance made you believe that you were actually watching a documentary of someone's life in the business. From what I've gathered and obtained over the years, my wrestling knowledge says that The Wrestler could easily be a documentary of the indy circuit. You actually felt bad and sympathized with Rourke's character Randy "The Ram" Robinson. If you are a fan of wrestling, you must watch this film.

*****Spoiler Alert kinda*****

As for the ending, it is a perfect ending. You have your open interpretation and opinion of what happens to The Ram. Did The Ram finish his match against the Ayatollah and then get rushed to the hospital or did he die doing what he loved... which was the only thing that seemed to love him back? It's your call. Seeing the flow of the film, I believe he died doing what he loved. Marissa Tomei's character was not into him the same way he was into her. His daughter gave him the shaft. Nothing was going the Ram's way and I think he figured out since wrestling was the only thing he loved and loved him, he was going to put it all on the line and die doing what he loved since everybody else seemingly abandoned him.

You're damn right dude. What better way to die than to do what you love?
FDR died serving the country he loved.
Andy Kaufman died making people laugh.

I really loved the whole movie. It shows that no matter how high you get in your career, you will always hit rock bottom. But even though you hit rock bottom, you don't give up.
Mickey Rourke played a lovable character, who didn't take shit from anybody.

You had to use your imagination for the ending. I envisioned him dying on top of his opponent after the 3 count.

Awesome movie, everybody should see it.
