The true team of the decade (NBA)

M-Rey845

Dark Match Winner
The Los Angeles Lakers or The San Antonio Spurs

the lakers have more championships, better playoff record against the spurs, are more exciting, etc

the spurs have more wins in the regular season, have stayed consistent throughout the decade, etc

i think the lakers are the team of the decade because they won more championships in the decade, have a 9-1 record over the spurs in the playoffs, and they were always the center of attention even if they weren't on the winning side of things, so Lakers imo are the team of the decade

thoughts???

This is a tough one, But I am also going to say Lakers.

They have had one bad year in the NBA and one If-y one. They dominated the first part of the decade. In 2003 they had a rough start but started to gell at the end of the season ( not Kobe and Shaq) and if they kept that throughout the whole year it would have been different. 2004, fuck knows what happened there. Malone was injured but still it should have been different, you had the glove, Kobe rising and Shaq still ther best center in the L. With a good supporting cast as well.

Then when 2005 came along things went down hill. Kobe thought he could do it all and basically wasn't listening. Phil left, and Shaq got traded for Lamar and Kwame ( do not count grant or Butler of this trade, ebcuase Grant was shit and they traded Butler this season anyways). 2006 tho, things were already looking up. Phil was back and Kobe was serving up 82 point games and 61 in 3 quarters. They almost upset the Phoenix suns. 2007 they got Pau and made it into the finals against Boston, then last year they one the NBA. This year it looks like they might possibly retain with having the best defense in the NBA along with a great offense ( i think they are 4th in offense or someshit like that).

Spurs have had a great run this decade, picking up 3 rings, Having the best Power Forward ever ( supposedly, I disagree) and constantly proving that they are a force in the west. But I just cant say they are better, and age has gotten to them this year and it looks like they will barely make the playoffs. It's a shame really.

But Lakers have my vote.

Im a spurs fan all the way..the reason they get my vote is when they still had robinson..not sure if it was in the past 10 years but i think it was lol damn i feel old but they swept every single team in the playoffs including the lakers when they had shaq and koby. So with that being said..im going spurs all the way. I even have dunncan autograph with the coa

It has to be the Lakers. They've had what, 4 titles this decade? That's incredible in any sport. At the beginning of the decade they had one of the best teams I can ever remember with Kobe, Shaq, Fisher, Horry, and Fox. I remember thinking that team was unstoppable.

The experiment with Payton and Malone didn't really work out, but they've gotten back on track as of late with Kobe proving he's the best player in the league and Gasol continuing to be an All-Star caliber center year in and year out.

The Spurs are great as well. Duncan is perhaps the greatest power forward ever and the pairing of him and David Robinson was pretty much unstoppable. But as you said, they don't have as many titles, head to head wins, etc. as the Lakers, which is why I rate them slightly lower than the purple and gold.

Do you mean in a single playoff's? Becuase thats never happened, and the Lakers got the closest in 2001, if only they hadn't lost game 1 to the 6'ers.

Of course, I'm going to go with the Lakers as well, 4 chips, better record against the Spurs, possibly the two biggest stars of the decade, have to be the most popular team. I don't know if they deserve credit or fault for this, but they did manage to completely rebuild their roster around Kobe and win another championship. Can't say I've seen too many teams win a championship with two completely different rosters within a single decade.
