The Tea Party/GOP's America

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
This hadn't quite clicked until I started looking for new insurance.

Access to see a doctor without losing your life savings - EVIL socialism and a privilege that not everyone can have.

Owning 87 guns which can shoot 100 shots in a minute - Your God given right.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but why are so many Americans against unionised labour?

Back on topic, as soon as I pass the exam, I'm getting my allowed two guns. If a threat to my family enters my home, he's going to fucking die.

On the other hand, I'm on chronic medication, so I'm a big supporter of subsidiarised (sp?) health care, education and all those lovely things they have in Canada.

Fixed for you.

I'm not from America and I don't think we're a very civilized bunch, but you made me laugh and I applaud you for that, good sir.

That wasn't meant to be funny. Literally, we're the only first world country without state run healthcare/a for profit healthcare system.

Lots of reasons, a lot of it comes from some Americans thinking pay and benefits should be decided between the employer and employee with no middle man or force. Unions can make it hard to fire workers and drive up labor costs, so this causes some to turn on them. Of course, you can kill unions and still provide all the same protections on the safety of the worker with government regulation and oversight. No unions does not equal businesses being able to do as they please, just not true.

That's not true. The US does have state run health care options, MISP, MediCal, MediCare etc etc etc...We do have such options, it is just disorganized, poorly managed and limited to the poor and elderly. People seem to think we don't offer government funded options and we do, they are there it is just most are too lazy it seems to go get them when they qualify.

It also is true that other nations have for profit health care options, such as the UK who used it to expand capacity for it's government options. These things are not black and white.

The fact that you have to look into it and go get them shows how ridiculous they are. It should be in place the second you're born, not once you go find them.

Did I ever defend them? No. Just stated that the options are there, not that they are good. They in fact, suck. A LOT.

Yeah they do. They're also far from universal, which is what should exist. Perhaps if we didn't have a military capable of blowing up a planet, we could afford it. Instead though, we need to rebuild two countries instead of fixing our own.

Our military could still blow up the planet with half the funding it gets. But it also pays to know the federal government would not have to flip the bill for all of it, it would be shared with the states. Not sure why republicans like to ignore that.

I did like one of the ideas my dad had about the returning vets: have them guard the border. They're out of work, they know security. Have them guard the border to Mexico that the GOP is SO scared of. Having a soldier there instead of a fence just might work.
