After Triple H's promo last week, the rumor is (even on CSR) that Triple H will be The Undertaker's WrestleMania opponent. Why would they even think about this? Nobody wants to see this for a THIRD time. Nobody wants to see him and Kane for a THIRD time either. Think about it, this could be The Undertaker's last WrestleMania. He's 46 years old. He'll go 20-0 this year. That's a nice round number and I can see him hanging up the boots afterwards. So don't take it for granted that he'll be back for WM29. Do it right this year just in case this is it for the Deadman. I can easily think of 5 better opponents for The Undertaker at Mania and here they are.
1. Wade Barrett: He and Nexus helped Kane bury The Undertaker and it was never brought up again. For once, maybe the writers should consider bringing closure to a storyline. Just a thought. Plus, Wade is credible now after the push he's gotten the past few months. Their body styles are somewhat similar. I think it would make for a good match.
2. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin: Can someone tell me why they don't even seem to be considering this? Austin has said numerous times that he has another match in him. I know he would prefer to face Punk or Lesnar, but sorry Punk is going to be a little tied up defending the WWE Championship and I wouldn't exactly hold my breath for Lesnar to make a return.
3. Randy Orton: If they would do the logical thing and turn Orton back heel where he's a thousand times more entertaining, this would become my #1. They met at WrestleMania XXI, but Orton was just a 21-year old kid then. He's developed into one of the top stars of the business now and a match between these 2 would likely have the fans split 50/50 like Taker's matches with Shawn Michaels.
4. Christian: This could be a pretty entertaining feud, with Christian playing the cowardly heel as he does so well. I think Christian is capable of putting on a good match with just about everyone, let alone a guy like Taker. Christian could make more of a fast-paced type of match. 2 completely different styles, again like we saw with Taker vs. Shawn.
5. Sheamus: Now, they're both beasts who wouldn't know any fear of eachother, so it would have that going for it. However, Sheamus is way too happy these days. Taker would obviously need to get under his skin and light that "Irish temper". I think I could like this, but for now I'm not completely sold and like the 4 above much better.
Other potential opponents:
CM Punk - If his WrestleMania future wasn't practically etched in stone to face Jericho for the WWE Championship, he'd at least be in the top 3, if not #1.
Chris Jericho - See CM Punk
John Cena - Also too bad his match is set. I think a lot of people would love to see him on the receiving end of a Tombstone.
Mick Foley - He's talked of having 1 more match in him. Hell in a Cell II? Obviously wouldn't compare with the first, but I'm sure Foley would take the bumps necessary to make the fans feel like they got their money's worth as always.
Mark Henry - No longer World Champion, but maintaining his dominant heel persona, a feud with Taker could just work. They've put so time and effort behind him, so I don't see the end of his title reign meaning his push comes to a screeching hault. Why not give him a 20-25 minute match with Taker where each man kicks out of eachother's finisher?
The Miz/Alberto Del Rio - OK I don't see either of these working, but if they were very desperate it's still not Kane or Triple H for the 3rd damn time. Probably a 12-15 minute match where the opponent gains control in the beginning but it becomes a squash
There you go. I just named you plenty of perfectly fine opponents for Taker to make his 20th victim and he's only faced 2 of them at Mania before, but neither of them were recently. So please, no Triple H back-to-back and for the 3rd time overall. And please, no Kane for the 3rd time overall. At any other PPV would be fine, but not at the showcase of the immortals.
